  1. Even though I'm not into sports games, and I understand this game is pretty different from your traditional football game.  However, I still couldn't get into it.  My roommates in college played this all the time and they loved it.  I understand why it was so popular at the time, but I still couldn't enjoy it.  It's just not for me.

If I had a gun to my head and forced me to pick a football game, this is probably the one I would pick, but that's about the best I can say for it.

4, never liked these games. Also bothers me when Crash is called 3D when the gameplay is clearly 2D. Recall seeing it and Mario 64 and had no trouble spotting the real 3D game. Stuck to mega drive for 2D, better design and control overall.

It may not be open world 3D, but you still move around in a 3D environment with 3D rendered graphics.  It's absolutely a 3D game.

Edit:  Even the side scrolling levels allow you to move around in a 3D environment.  You have the ability to fall off ledges towards the screen or away from the screen.

  3. I'm now playing through the remaster of Tomb Raider II.  I'm about half way through as of last night.

As with Tomb Raider I, my only complaint is that I wish the controls were the same as the original game.  It's minor enough that I can live with it, but it's still annoying.

  4. My interest lasted only about a week.  I haven't played it since.  It's not that I didn't enjoy it.  It's just not something I see myself playing much.  I usually don't spend a lot of time playing online games where a 9 year old kid from another country is kicking my ass constantly.

With that said, I hope Nintendo continues to make these kinds of games.  I do enjoy them for what they are.

  5. I've said it before, but I don't get upset at the presence of microtransactions.  It's how they implement the microtransactions that determines whether I get upset or not.  If the game is designed to be impossible or near impossible without the extra purchases, that's when I start to get annoyed.  Or if the game requires EXTREME grinding in order to get simple items, I'm obviously not a fan of that.  I thought Capcom did it correctly with the microtransactions on the Resident Evil 2 remake.  All of the extra purchases were available in game and their requirements were fairly reasonable.

Another thing to keep in mind is that Capcom sometimes has sales on their microtransactions.  They just recently had an offer for all unlockable items the RE2 and RE3 remakes and purchase price was either $3 or $4.  That included all of the extra outfits, all of the infinite weapons and all of the other unlockables.

  6. I finished the remaster of Tomb Raider.  Overall, I'm pretty happy with the results.  The game looks absolutely beautiful and my complaints are pretty minor.  The biggest issues is that the "classic controls" are not the same as the original game.  They are very similar, but not exactly the same, and I have absolutely no idea why.  If you don't like the original controls, you have an option for modern controls, and you can also reassign most of the buttons, but for some reason, the exact original controls are not possible, and that makes absolutely no sense to me.

The only other issue I found is the minor split second freezes while things load in the middle of the level.  This never occurred in the original game, so I don't see why it would occur on newer modern consoles.  It's super minor, but still annoying.

I'll be moving on to Tomb Raider II remaster tonight.

    https://www.amazon.com/Sony-CDP-CX355-Storage-Compact-Changer/dp/B0000AKKS9

pretty crazy. maybe more useful for shops or restaurants or other commercial locations, i guess

Why not?  It certainly isn't going to get damaged.  I enjoy the convenience of having my entire collection ready to play at the push of a button.

And that link gave me a chuckle.  I remember paying $180 for mine brand new.

  8. Easy 10 for me.  My absolute favorite of the series.  It took everything from the original and improved on it.  I believe 2 is more challenging than 1 in terms of level design, but I agree that 2 is much easier to 100% compared to 1.  The graphics still look beautiful today.

    NO!

That's on the duplicate forum from the admin who went apeshit. He straight out lies and makes up stories. Do NOT go to his new site,  instead go to pcenginefans.com, that's where the majority of the community went. If your IP Address is from Utah, you'll get a face full of bestiality if you visit his site, specifically because he hates me so much. His particular clone site of the original PCEngineFX is dead because he alienated so much of the community. In fact, most of the long time community members have their own insane ranting screed on that site.

Note, that particular person (we'll call him nutterpants) was given admin privileges by the founder, Aaron Nanto. Nanto went AWOL, and then came back to a burned down forum thanks to that particular lunatic. He tried to regain the forum, and removed the admin privileges of nutterpants and banned him from the forums. However, in true lunatic fashion, nutterpants decided to install a backdoor into the website prior to his own removal, and then managed to ban Nanto from his own site. Nanto was able to regain control at some point, but it really shows the level of insanity the community was dealing with. It's a fascinating story how that particular admin, nutterpants, destroyed the community.

I was just too lazy to go into the detail.

I went and found the thread in question. It's sad, because that particular member was respected in that community at that time, but honestly is the most annoying, fedora-tipping, dumb-opinion-wielding people to grace the gaming hobby. I have countless examples of that individual spouting off dumb opinions to appear as an elitist hipster. Yelling at someone for how they play with LEGO is about as dumb as you can get. It's a toy, it is meant to be played with however the person who purchases it wants to play with it.

I didn't even think about trying to find the thread.  Since I was going completely off memory, you had me wondering if my account of the story was mostly accurate, so I just went to see if I could find it, and it was actually a little worse then I remember.  Hard to believe that was almost 7 years ago.  I specifically remember thinking I had about a 50/50 chance of surviving the forum after writing my reply.  Obviously, I didn't get banned, probably because I chose to make one reply and leave it at that.  I don't regret any of what I said in that thread.  Sorry you had to go through a similar experience.

  11. I'm still playing the Tomb Raider Remaster at about 2 levels per evening.

However, in addition to that, and I can't really explain why, but I just recently got the itch to pull out my old Guitar Hero and Rock Band controllers and start playing those games again.  I forgot how much I enjoyed those games back when it was the big thing.  It's funny how huge that market segment was, and then it became super saturated, and overnight completely fell off the radar.  The games are still a lot of fun, and fortunately, I purchased a bunch of other games in the series, when they were selling for dirt cheap.  Unfortunately, the prices have gone back up, so it's unlikely that I will get any of the other games I'm the missing from the series.  Maybe I will go through the PS2 games and beat those for the Beat the PS2 Library thread.

    X men 97

    I've heard of that.

And by that, I mean that the other night while watching a YouTube video, about every 3 minutes I was forced to watch the exact same 10 second, unskippable ad for X-Men 97.

So I've heard of it many, many, many, many times.

Wow! 300 discs in one CD player -- I honestly did not know such a thing exits 🙂

I bought it new many years ago when such things were common.  It's surprisingly small considering what it holds.  It has the ability to to read the band, album and song off the CD if the CD has that capability.  Unfortunately, the majority of my CD collection was purchased before that was common, so I had to manually enter the name of each album through the keyboard input.

I also have a 200 disc CD player in storage which can piggy back off the 300 disc unit if I wanted to.  Sony also made a 400 disc player that played CDs and DVDs with HDMI output.  I might have even played SACD, but I can't remember for sure.  I almost bought one of those when they were still available new at Best Buy.  I kind of wish I had because now the only way to get them is second hand, and they go for a pretty penny.  Amazingly, the 400 disc player wasn't much larger than my 300 disc unit.

That entire forum was insanely toxic to new collectors and newer fans of the TG16. Many of the old timers tried to chase me off because I had the audacity to claim that increasing demand was due to more people entering the market, and not due to an evil conspiracy of eBay sellers trying to raise prices. A lot of the people who tried to chase me off have long since left the scene, while I've created homebrew for the TG16.

I 100% agree.  My involvement with that site was very limited, and I was more of a lurker than a poster.  Over 5 years, I probably had around 300 posts.  I saw lots of newcomers get pushed out, but I was able to tip toe my way around to site and avoid most of the hostility.  I actually made a bit of a game with it.  I attempted to see how long I could go without triggering anyone.  I only made one mistake in my time there.  In a thread about Legos of all things, in a lapse of judgement, I mentioned that all of my Lego sets from my childhood had been keep in their original boxes, and I never combined my sets together into one large bin of Legos.  Oh boy, was that a mistake.  I honestly don't remember who, but one of the long time members really let me know how shitty it was of me to treat my Legos like that.

I've said this before, but after that forum imploded from the rogue mod, I specifically remember thinking about how nice it was knowing that nothing like that could ever happen to NintendoAge.  Less than 12 months later, I ended up eating those words.

Cool! do you collect cassette soundtracks? I've heard rumors they're making a comeback...

I've ordered each of the TMNT soundtracks from LRG so far.  There is only one more to go, which should be available next month.  Each one was available in CD, cassette, and vinyl.  I was really torn on which to get.  I only picked cassette because I have some old TNMT cassette tapes from my childhood, and I thought they would go well together.

I don't really collect cassette tapes, but I have a super small collection, I would be willing to purchase more if I find them cheap, and it's music I enjoy listening to.  I have a cassette player as part of my home theater, along with my turntable, and 300 disc CD player.  I enjoy listening to music of any format, but cassette tapes certainly make up the smallest amount of my personal music.

With that said, I've also heard rumors about cassette tapes making a bit of a comeback.  I don't think it will ever reach the level that vinyl did, but maybe it will.
