I died on stage 4 because spamming the special when I was down to 1 life brick stopped working on all my lives. Not sure if it was Analogue related or the 8bitdo controller but it also wasn’t working on subsequent lives during the boss battle.
What do you mean that it stopped working? Like your special wasn't damaging enemies anymore or what?

I don't know if I can do much better. I can't hit enough of the electrified bots and jumpers in 2-1 and I take a lot of damage trying. Gaia's score is insane.

I’m digging the shorter runs version of the weekly contest, even though there will still be those who are miles ahead, I think it puts us on more level ground. Play till the first/second level and post up your score. Takes 10 minutes to do a run instead of hours. I dig it
I do hope that we get to play all of Gyruss and Adventure Island, or at least as far as we can get, even though they're long. I think they're worth it. Making AI be a one life contest should cut down on run length for a lot of players anyway.
For Kickle we could use a password to start at a later world like with Burai Fighter. I wouldn't actually mind that at all

Yeah, I immediately pause so that Groundchuck is in picture. I hope people aren't waiting to get the extra points from beating him.

Never played, but I'm guessing from the title that it's skinnygrinny's favorite.

Oh yeah, never played Minecraft, Bioshock, or any of the popular modern computer RPGs such as Neverwinter Nights, Skyrim and Elden Ring.

I have a book called "An Illustrated History of 151 Video Games" by Simon Parkin. It only covers games until 2012, but I think this could be a decent starting point. Maybe we could add and subtract some games? Anyway, here's the list:

Absolutely! I've just been trying to play through this game, but starting with level 4 the levels become obscenely long and it gets painfully boring after a while. It doesn't help either that the bosses become total damage sponges.
It's a good game at its core, but yeah, it gets painfully repetitive. Just got my first game over at the level 5 boss and I have no interest anymore in continuing. So I think it was a wise decision to limit the scope of this week's challenge.
Too bad though. I wish i could have beaten this game for me personally as I keep list of all the NES games that I've beaten.
I have beaten TMNT3 but I haven't gone back to it.
TMNT2 is shorter and IMO plays at a better pace because you can quickly kill most enemies in one hit with your special attack. That's why I prefer TMNT2 even though both are good.

If we get desperate I can try grinding out Ikari Warriors. I don’t have much time currently to give it an honest go but also that hasn’t stopped me in the past.
You might be the only one who can do it.

Good ruleset.
If we're playing TMNT2 I'd rather play through the entire game. But this game is even longer and goes on and on and on.

So you died to max the health bar. Clever. I will have to change that so lives have more weight.
This was my immediate concern upon looking at the ruleset that it's better to die in order to get a full healthbar. I almost brought it up.

Yeah, it is really hard and it took me many tries to even beat level 4 reliably and even then some runs just failed. Level 5 was the biggest obstacle for me since some parts are really just giant instant death traps with a bit of randonmess mixed in there. However, the game is fun enough, imho, that I kept trying.
I thought maybe you had a lot of prior experience with this game. I can't imagine reaching the final boss in one life.
This is one of those games that I want to beat casually now. It's pretty good.
-
Is this game crazy hard for anyone else? It's a cool game, but I only made it out of level 4 like maybe three or four times this week. One of the main issues is getting trapped by that stupid boss.
-
I was still waiting for him to find the real killer.
-
I should get the cart. It's a pretty cool game that's still cheap.

Maybe 6 years ago I bought this game. I played it once. It sat on my shelf for the next five years, then I sold it.
is it any good? The label art always put me in the mood of section z mixed with low g man
It feels like a predecessor to Isolated Warrior in some ways. Made by the same people. For example, having the different weapons types that you upgrade independently, although the weapons system is otherwise quite different. You also collect the same sort crystals for bomb power. The screen that shows your bonus points between levels reminds me of Isolated Warrior.

2024 VGS NES Weekly Contest - TMNT 3

I do the move by tapping A and then B in quick succession rather than simultaneously, just like in TMNT2. I have my index and middle fingers on the buttons when I do it.
