This is a real mystery. I'm perplexed.

I need to know what game this is. Google has been useless.

Act Raiser 2 looks gorgeous. I could never get into the hideous, frustrating gameplay at all.

Yeah, there's some really tough NES games out there, including some that are borderline impossible. Often for all the wrong reasons, awkward controls, awful design etc. There's a few which are both enjoyable and really hard, but I don't think they dominate the platform - by far the majority of games on NES/Famicom are easily approachable and don't demand that much from the player. 

I think it's more a question of people of today not really being willing to dedicate that much effort in the first place, to a game that in their mind is already antiquated. 

If you browse through a larger selection, maybe on an emulator or everdrive, and try out a game for a few minutes to see what it's like, then yeah, it's probably gonna come across quite challenging, possibly a lot more than it really is. Especially if you're quick to resort to savestates the moment you encounter an obstacle.

Contra is a popular example of this, often being the straight up poster child for "hard" NES games even though it's really not that bad. What's a modern game that could be considered an equivalent? Doom Eternal? That game takes way, way more skill and effort to beat!

It's exactly this. The same people who say that they have no time to beat a 20 minute NES game legit will spend 100+ hours on a modern FPS or RPG. It has to do with not thinking that an old game is worth their time. Which is fine. We all have our own gaming preferences.

I'm not too keen on multiple events sports games where you have to take a bunch of pictures. I probably would've played anything else.

I'm happy with my Rolling Thunder score. I couldn't have done any better because I sure as hell wasn't going to beat that game.

I do wish I'd tried harder at the other games because I could have taken third place.

I beat Rally Bike at the end of October and just realized that it's still on this list! It's a really fun game, but the last couple of stages during the second loop are quite vicious. BTW, I watch a lot of retro game streaming on Twitch. But if it dies or turns into porn there's always Kick.

Lol you guys are naming the two Christmas games that exist for the system.  I saw that too.  I don't think that's the answer though.   Regardless, I can't find a chibi Santa in any game.  I'm sure this Santa is probably a tucked away easter egg in a non-Christmas game.

PS1 has a HUGE library and it might not even be something that was released in the US.

Still can't believe it was almost 8 years ago that I started playing in the contests. That was such a competitive year too.

The rules also specify to not call other contestants out in the threads themselves. I guess to prevent this exact sort of drama. Everybody loves drama, right?
