  1. I watched Insomnia for the first time the other night. I thought Pacino was good but it honestly felt like it should have been longer to flesh it out more. It seemed like Nolan was forced to make the movie a certain length and he usually needs that extra time to develop his worlds.

I also watched Mad Max Road Warrior and Thunderdome. The series is just so entertaining despite only giving you small glimpses of life in the post-apocalyptic world.

Good news is I use different passwords for most everything. But what doesn't make sense is they would've had to have my email, email password too, which are all different.

Is it that easy to figure that shit out?

I never login anywhere with that email.

Did they change your PayPal password? If so, they could have looked through your email and requested a PayPal password change.

Seriously, we have a mental health problem in this country. It’s not just these people either. Look at the increased rates of suicide, especially amongst Gen Z. While not all would seek it or necessarily be helped by it, mental health treatment should be available to all regardless of individual resources.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but aren't almost all of the largest mass shooting in red states? Nevada, Florida, Texas.

Just looking at the past several years, they’re kind of all over the place, but many of these aren’t really headline mass shootings. Though we hear about them locally. I live in the suburbs of Chicago and we have strict gun laws but still have issues.

I’m personally for stricter gun laws despite the fact that they may not reduce certain gun violence. I personally believe there should be some sort of annual mental fitness evaluation in order to maintain gun ownership. Life circumstances can change and have a significant impact on someone over time. A once stable person may no longer be fit to own a gun. I do not own a gun, and I don’t plan to, but I did get a FOID card, required for Illinois in case stuff hits the fan and I do need to prepare myself to protect my family. However, I never plan to use it.

Nobody wants to work = nobody wants to work for un-competitive wages, while business owners get rich. Keep raising wages, and workers will show up.

Thank God for unions, we have 3000 people on the wait list for our apprenticeship. Lots of guys with worthless degrees and 100s of thousands of dollars in debt, fighting to come dig ditches in the sun 😂😂😂

I work for a Fortune 500 company and there are plenty of people I would fire on the spot if I was in control and there were no unemployment consequences. Outside of people that don’t want to work for low wages, there are so many people that are basically stealing from their employers because they either aren’t doing their jobs or they do such a terrible job at them. I’ve seen this from upper management level to staff level. I’d argue that the biggest problem isn’t just employers or employees, there are plenty that suck on both sides. I’d argue it’s sacrificing economic competition and opportunities by allowing big business to leverage economies of scale and causing the demise of smaller businesses while bloating head counts due to inefficiencies and keeping salaries and wages low.  Small businesses’ share of GDP has been on the decline for decades and it’s no surprise to me that we see worse customer service now than before too.

  6. I watched Network for the first time. Overall, I thought it was a very good movie. I think it hits things right on the nose for the most part. It would have been great had I not thought the character of Max was uneven and had moments where I was thinking this just seems illogical for this character.

RIP - I loved all his movies. I don’t know why but Charlie St. Cloud stands out to me, he didn’t have a ton of screen time but brought a lot of power when he did. Of course there are all his classics. Huge loss

I think it’s a great example of what he could bring to a role, even a small one. He was the best part of that movie. Dude sounded like a straight up devout Catholic. He played it perfectly.

Thanks for the tips, makes sense!

One minor annoyance is that my wife is vegetarian and I am not. So like, a pound of beef really has to do me two meals. So I need two days (in a row, typically) of ground beef themed meals (they don't really come in half pounds). That's a very specific scenario, but suffice it to say in general that often I find myself having to both double up on the protein purchases (fake chicken nuggets for instance, if I've bought chicken breasts/wings/thighs) as well as sometimes having trouble with waste (especially my own proteins - they tend to come in 2 person+ servings).

Admittedly some of my trouble is a general pickiness. I could definitely stand to get over myself and eat some damn leftovers like an adult every so often.

Split out the meat and only cook half of it one day and half of it the other half two days from now. It should last. Also, freeze the meat you don’t plan on using right away. Stuff lasts in the refrigerator a few days. You should be able to alternate.

You could always freeze a leftover  and eat it later.

  9. A simple routine will go a long way. My wife does all the cooking since I’m usually at the office. We have to cook for us and three kids. So, we buy much more than you would, but we have almost no food waste.

We keep it simple. We have a few choices of meat (ground beef, chicken, sometimes pork), salmon for Fridays, and then a few vegetables like carrots, parsnips, broccoli, cauliflower, beats, zucchini, squash, peppers, green beans, and sweet potatoes. We rotate these things. We’ll use quinoa or lentils as well. Fruits are pretty simple (apples, pears, and bananas).

We don’t overly complicate the recipes. We just do a little salt and pepper and some herbs and spices with some olive oil. I’ve perfected the mixes and taught my wife. These meals are all simple and don’t take that long to make. I’d start by buying enough food for say 3 days and seeing how far it gets you. That will give you and idea of what you need for a week so you don’t have a lot of waste.

In terms of quantities for a dinner meal, a pound of ground beef or ground turkey and one zucchini and one yellow squash feeds the two of us. You could probably do a broccoli head or half a cauliflower head and two or three carrots instead. I’d say two peppers and an onion would also work. That should give you an idea for portions.

  10. I watched Spider-Man No Way Home. It made me realize how much I miss Spider-Man 1 and 1. Heck, I even liked Andrew Garfield better than Tom Holland in this. I felt bad for Garfield. The Amazing Spider-Man movies weren’t great, and he burned a bridge with that franchise, but he’s a much better actor.

  11. I watched Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri last night. It was a really well done movie. The language was a bit much for my sense, but I still enjoyed it. My only complaint would be that the ending kind of ruined some character development.

Interesting.  I might have to give that one a try when it comes out on DVD and I can borrow it from the library.

This weekend I watched Invaders from Mars.  Man, I loved this one as a kid.  Wasn't bad but just kind of bland.  I was hoping for something that was bad in an awesome way.  Oh well, maybe this weekend I'll watch The Last Starfighter to fill that void.  I haven't watch it in probably 20 years.

I will say, ask much as I like his take on Batman, I don’t know that I like his Bruce so much. I like Keaton and Bale’s takes on Bruce Wayne better. Overall, I think it was a solid movie, especially for a comic book movie.

  13. I watched The Batman last night on HBO Max as my son woke up with a stomach bug and I was washing his bed set.

I really liked the tone of the movie. It felt almost like a Noir film to me. I think it was about a half an hour too long, but I liked Pattinson’s take on Batman. I liked the emphasis on his detective skills and he felt more gritty than other Batman iterations. To me, the best part of the other Batman movies were the villains. I was a bit disappointed in that area in this movie. Alfred also didn’t really get to shine in this movie. I did like the take on Oz and Catwoman though. Overall, I kind of put this one ups there with Batman Begins.
