This thread should be cleaned up imo. I don't think the whole TG16 rant was necessary, any sort of drama like that (or the NA drama) should be left in the past. At the end of the day, it's just one side of the story being shown.

So like every single thread gets derailed into the abyss but this one has to be cleaned up?

I 100% agree.  My involvement with that site was very limited, and I was more of a lurker than a poster.  Over 5 years, I probably had around 300 posts.  I saw lots of newcomers get pushed out, but I was able to tip toe my way around to site and avoid most of the hostility.  I actually made a bit of a game with it.  I attempted to see how long I could go without triggering anyone.  I only made one mistake in my time there.  In a thread about Legos of all things, in a lapse of judgement, I mentioned that all of my Lego sets from my childhood had been keep in their original boxes, and I never combined my sets together into one large bin of Legos.  Oh boy, was that a mistake.  I honestly don't remember who, but one of the long time members really let me know how shitty it was of me to treat my Legos like that.

I've said this before, but after that forum imploded from the rogue mod, I specifically remember thinking about how nice it was knowing that nothing like that could ever happen to NintendoAge.  Less than 12 months later, I ended up eating those words.

Gotta make you happy that dude is banned now and his title is raging lunatic haha

edit: his profile bio is also epically written by the mod that banned him. It’s….the greatest story ever told

I am a lawyer, but leveraging it to weigh in on this thread any more than I’m about to is not worth it. I’ve tried to explain fraud was committed here, people who don’t know the law think that because there isn’t a specific law means that condones the behavior, but civil law provides for duties and responsibilities based on the representations people make to others. That creates legal liability.

We can’t afford the hourly rate for your advice anyways 😂

    Ad hominem.

    He brings up valid points.

Agree. This is parallel to every eBay seller claiming whatever game they are selling is “rare” and a “holy grail” and listing things for 100x the actual value. People need to be accountable for not taking something at face value and do the research.

If this was securities and not games this would be a slam dunk market manipulation SEC case. But it’s not. This is why Jim Halperin is involved in hobby items, it’s unregulated territory and he knows it from his run in with coins/comics/video games/trading cards/etc. People are always looking for get rich quick schemes and this was just the next one to take advantage of people. The people who got caught up in this and lost their shirts, well play with fire and get burnt is all I can say there.

Hopefully the civil action has deep penalties, which it probably won’t, and we can all just move on.

Also the big thing for me from the recent news, is that they were grading games from their own staff or board members, while making the claim they were too busy to keep up with the customer’s demands and hence the long waiting times.

Well gee, how about grading the customer’s items first before grading the staffs’ inventory? That would probably help to reduce the waiting time.

You could really use their own scam against as they themselves propped themselves up to be the most trusted video game grading company and used that to hype up prices and put grading the games they owned and selling them before customers. Seems highly unethical. But if you charge all companies who act unethically with crimes there would be no companies left lol

so this argument is that if the lawsuit fails and/or nobody ends up in alcatraz, it means they didn't do anything wrong. okay.

it was sort of obvious that all of this was shady. now it's been confirmed and it's even worse that what most thought. whether or not a lawsuit is successful, and whether or not anybody pays a fine or goes to jail is not going to cleanse them of anything.

I think the agreement is that there will likely be no criminal charges but I can see the civil suits being ruled in favor of the plaintiffs. The fact of the matter is WATA offered grading services that had documented SLAs and failed on a majority of them to meet their own deadlines. That coupled with a financial reason to grade games higher to charge more on insurance without giving the customer a chance to refuse seems like a win. Now depending on the judgement levied it may bankrupt the company or at least put them in an operating hole.

Thanks, I'll revisit the screw variants and likely end up updating it to a R9.

Also, something no one pointed out is why I bothered adding Anticipation, Donkey Kong Classics, Ice Hockey, Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Team Games, and Zelda II to the "Does Not Exist?" category.

Those are in there because other 1988 first party titles have been found to have documented 5-Screw variants (R.C. Pro-Am, SMB/DH/WCTM, and the rumored SMB/DH)

You give me hope that out of my complete NES set (minus SE) I’m going to find some rare variant in there that actually has some significance in the history of games.

So I was talking to one of my supervisors at work yesterday, and apparently her first job in the animation industry was doing cleanup on Aladdin's idle-cycle in the Genesis game...

I've been working with her for 2 years and I'm just learning this NOW!!?? Lost my mind a bit haha.
