  1. Hmmmmm....no Sega love here? My choice would be Starflight for the Sega Genesis. A very cool Sci-Fi space exploration RPG. I remember getting this a beating it back in 94.  Back then there weren't a lot of reviews. I made my choice based on the front and back cover art/explanation.  The manual was a small book in itself. What's this? A star map? Looks nice but do I need it? Trust me you needed this map to help you with the game. It was a huge time sink for me. Just flying around and discovering a new solar system. What planet was I going to land on? Oh wait that planet is loaded with valuable minerals but is highly volcanic? My Science officer recommends I don't land there. Yea well I'm the captain and I'm risking it. A few times I'd get caught in an eruption and it was a struggle to get my landing craft back to my ship to take off. I'd die several times and get rescued and have to dig myself out of debt. Traveling all over the galaxy finding the artifacts you needed was challenging. I felt very satisfied when I finally beat this game. I know I don't have the patience to beat it ever again but every once in a while I'll fire it up and go on a mining exploration, maybe fight some aliens who are being jerks. I'm surprised this one doesn't get mentioned at all.

  2. I remember back in around October 2001 an Ebay seller from Dallas flooded Ebay with a ton of brand new copies of Shining Force CD. I recall  a used complete copy at the time went for around $80. I ended up buying 3 sealed copies for around $15 each. I think today if a game for an older system is found with multiple copies on a pallet the seller will research it first and only sell one copy at a time to not cause a price crash.

  3. I like seeing:

    Hex map grids

    Zones of control

    lots of unit variety

different paths/story lines to take based decisions you make in the game or from battles won/lost

A strong A.I. that gives you a challenge

Mission variety. Offensive or defensive missions with a turn count. Reach a certain point on the map before the enemy does. Rescuing a captured character.

Character class changes and/or promotion eg. Ogre Battle

I like character death as long as I have lots of other characters to develop in reserve.

  4. That Vampire game looks really good. I might have to try and preorder it somewhere too. Stll no word of regular systems being available. I can buy them new locally at a $50 markup which isn't bad but I'll wait.

  5. Started around 1998. I had a Nes with Arkanoid, SMB3 and various Koei games along with a Genesis and NHL95, Dune and Herzog Zwei. I then got a 32X and my first taste of Doom. In 1999 my wife and I bought our first home computer. Discovering the internet and finding out about various Strategy games and RPG's I caught the bug. First started buying on Ebay then discovered Gametz in 2000. For me 2000-2008 were my glory years in collecting. Games were easy to find. It was fun/easy to trade online(shipping was cheap!) And older games were relatively cheap then too.

  6. Interesting list Tabonga. Several gems on there for me(LOTR Trilogy, Star Wars Ep4 and The Road warrior)The only one I'm surprised at would be The Day. 11 out of 10? More like a 5 for me and you know how much I love Post apocalyptic movies. Some 11's for me are The Usual Suspects, The Great Escape, Lawrence of Arabia.

  7. I was looking through some of my old threads on Digital Press today. In an old Gamepro(late 1990 issue or Jan 1991) was a print ad advertising a contest for Dragon warrior 2. You had to complete the game and send in a "report card" about the game. The ad states " When you complete your quest in DW2 send us a photo of you next to the game's final screen, along with your written, detailed impressions of DW2 From Feb1991 continuing each month through May 1991, the 20 best write ups for each month will win one of the prizes shown above. In May 1991 the 24 players with the best"report cards" will each win a pre-release copy of Dragon warrior 3. Yada..yada..yada"
    The prizes were:
1st(one winner) Statue of Gold Man
2nd(3 winners) A Jailers Key and Watergate Key from DW2
3rd(3 winners) A Gold and Silver Keys from DW2
4th(6 winners) A cloth map displaying the armor from Dragon Warrior 1,2,3
5th(6 winners) A cloth map displaying weapons from dragon warrior 1,2,3
What I want to know is:
    1. Does anyone remember that contest and/or won a prize
2.Has anyone seen these prizes appear on Ebay or other collector forums for sale?

  8. My favorite pizza is a local place called Pepis. Regular crust. The tomato sauce has a hint of sweetness that I've never had before in other pizzas that I like. I always get Pepperoni, ground beef, red onion, green olives and "heart attack" bacon with extra cheese put on when the pizza is almost done. Heart attack bacon as I call it are bacon "squares" slightly bigger than a quarter that are extra crispy and give you a bit of a "crunch" when eating it. I always ask for extra cheese to be put on when the pizza is almost done to act as a "web" of sorts to weigh all the toppings down and keep them from falling off 😄

I also enjoy Chicago Style deep dish that I get in another city close buy. It's really heavy and I can usually only eat 2 slices. I've been told the best is made in Chicago which I hope to try one day. I'm supposed to go to Chicago for work when the company traveling ban is lifted.

  9. Well I was 13 in 83. I don't remember there being a specific crash being talked about in the news or among my peers per say.. I only knew of one person in my class in 81 who had an Atari 2600. I got to play on it a few times and wasn't all that impressed(I only liked Berzerk)  In 83 I remember going to Sears and playing on the Intellivision(not impressed) or a local Food market/toy store/sporting goods store and playing a Vectrex(Loved it but way to expensive for my parents to buy). In between sports outside if I wanted to play video games I went to the arcade which for me blew away Atari/Colecovision/Intellivision. In 84 no one I knew at school had or wanted one of those systems. I don't recall going to stores to play them anymore either. From 84 to 88 I'd say the best video games I played were on friends Commodore 64 or the Apple IIe. It was that time I discovered new genres like RPG's(Wizrardy) or strategy games like Archon, M.U.L.E. or Dark Forest. I never heard about the NES till 89 at a house party. Things would be winding down.....a few guys would fire up the Nes to play Super Mario Bros....hmmm...ok..that looks pretty cool! I remember one friend pulled out a Famicom cart on a honeybee adapter that had 150 games on it! In 89 that was mind blowing lol. It wasn't until Super Mario Bros 3 came out that home video games became very popular for me and my peers.
