  1. Online I'm pretty quiet and polite. I rarely say much. Been posting on forums for over 20 years so I'm more of a lurker now. In real life I'm the "funny guy" Kinda a cross between John Candy and Fred Flintstone. I'm passionate. I enjoy going for beers with buddies watching sports and busting balls 😁

  2. 9 for me. I like Empire better though. I still remember seeing it when it was released in the theater when I was 7 years old. My dad took me and said I didn't move or say a word during the entire movie. I still remember how blown away I was with the Cantana scene seeing the aliens for the first time and watching Han shoot Greedo. The magic from seeing that movie and getting some of the toys/action figures are pretty fond memories from my childhood.

Here's a stack of some my guides so far. Not a huge collection, but it's because I collect with a limited budget so I move slowly.

My fave is the one on the Beatles. I never expected to see a Koei book about the Beatles. Part of the "Koei Cult Club" (whatever that is!)

Koei cult club on the Beatles? Never knew these existed. Are they just fan books? I've thought about getting some of the Koei Famicom guides just to check out

Since my goal is to build a Koei Collection, I have a healthy number of their Japanese strategy guides. I also have a few non-Koei ones for games like Destiny of an Emperor 2, Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy VI, etc.

The super cool thing about the Japanese guides is that most of them are in that cool 'mook' format. Colorful like a magazine but the smaller form factor of a paperback novel. Like the one I attached for Romance of the Three Kingdoms 2

    They're the best.

Maybe one day I'll actually learn to read Japanese 🤪

Being a big Koei fan myself I'd love to see pics of your other Koei guides.

  5. Not a rental but I remember buying Metal Mech when it was released at Toys R Us. I brought it home and fired it up and it was absolute shit. I was so disappointed with my $100 purchase. I returned it the next day telling the clerk I didn't like it. Back in the day they'd actually let you return opened games. The game I exchanged it for? Nes Play Action Football 😛 I grudgingly held onto that one cause it wasn't that bad. I just couldn't return a second game now could I? 🤣

  6. I collect for several reasons. One incident early on that made me hold onto most games was the time I traded in a bunch of Nes games to my local video game store. Was around 1992(22 at the time) and I was broke and wanted to go out drinking with the guys that night. I remember going to the game store and trading in my mint, CIB copies of Bandit Kings of Ancient China, Genghis Khan, and Romance of the 3 Kingdoms. The store only game me $50. Now that was enough for 3-4 pitchers and I had a hell of a time but I remember going back to the same game store a few weeks later hoping to buy back one of them only to see price tags of $100 to $80 on each. I was less than impressed.  I vowed I would never trade in anything into a game store again(not including garage sale scraps) Some games hold a lot of memories that remain long after I've beaten them. Getting my first computer and internet in 1999 I discovered a lot of gems that I had missed that I had fun tracking down. I remember piecing together my copy of Snatcher for the Sega CD. Around 2001 I bought a disk only copy for $50 off Ebay. A little while later I tracked down a manual on Ebay for $13.  I ended up getting someone to make me nice color copy of the back case artwork. I ended up trading him an Ogre Battle PSX manual and monster chart for it.  It always bothered me a little that my back art was a copy. Fast forward to 2017 and I bought a manual less copy on Ebay and swapped out the back art and sold the disk only copy to recoup some of my costs. The authentic back art ended up costing me close to a $100 which I find funny compared to what I paid for the important parts of the game. I'm a fan of box art and I love some of the Genesis and Nes box art. I enjoy displaying them on my shelf. I'm fortunate enough to have gotten most of my retro stuff before 2010 but now I enjoy collecting various Switch games and collector's edition sets with all the bells and whistles they release them with.

  7. I gave it an 8. Bought it new with the guide when it came out. Played it, beat it and loved it. During a collection purge about 7 years ago I had a hard time selling it in excellent shape for $30 with the guide. Crazy how it's shot up in price.

  8. I gave it a 7/10. I remember seeing my buddy playing Wave race and was blown away with the 3D. I chose it over the PS1 and Saturn at the time. I justified my purchase because at the time I was really into first person shooters. I loved the first Turok, Doom 64, Duke Nukem 64. But hated Goldeneye(Fight me! lol) I love Ogre Battle 64 and Rogue Squadron. The Nintendo titles like Star Fox 64, Mario Kart 64 among others I still enjoy to this day. Still pissed Robotech Crystal Dreams never saw the light of day!

  9. I'm a Sega guy and was excited at the time when the system came out. I have fond memories playing the Bass fishing games with the fishing rod controller with my daughter as a toddler. Sadly the games/genres I wanted never came. No strategy/rpg's like a new Shining Force. The only strategy game I can think of was conflict zone and I didn't care for it. I like Action/Rpg's and the only one was Record of the Lodoss war.  I loved Quake 3 Arena but that genre is done better on modern systems. I got rid of the system over 10 years ago and have zero desire to try it again. I gave it a 4/10. Now if you love shooters or fighting games it's an awesome system to have. Just not a system for my gaming tastes.

  10. I have doubles of BaseBall Stars Nes because I've had several seasons with different friends on the go. Same thing with Genghis Khan on the Nes. It's my favorite Koei game and I have a few different games on the go solo or against friends. Both are fairly cheap so no point in selling them. I see the reasoning if you acquired a double of a game that's become rare and using it as good trade bait.

  11. I've sold off some rares that didn't have any nostalgic value to me. I started Snes collecting late(around 2003) and a few years ago I sold off stuff that I enjoyed(CIB's WildGuns, Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, EVO) but didn't plan on playing again. I love my Sega CD stuff(Snatcher, Space Adventure Cobra) but at what point do these old CD games stop working(disk rot) and you should consider dumping them?

  12. I never got one at launch due to the insane price tag. I did buy one around 2001 and had a small collection of about 10 games at the time. Wing Commander 3 Heart of the Tiger and Return Fire were a lot better than the PSX versions. I loved Super Wing Commander(system exclusive) AD&D DeathKeep and Slayer I had high hopes for but they were utter crap. Wolfenstein 3D was the best version at the time. The 3DO version of DOOM was unplayable IMO. Strahl I enjoyed but I'm a sucker for those old interactive movie games. I couldn't justify the shelf space and sold it off around 10 years ago. Do I miss it? Yea a little bit. But after looking at the recent price tags on systems and games I'll probably never play one again.
