  1. Looking through the Nes, Snes and game boy games on the switch, I noticed breath of  fire 1 and 2 were there, and have no clue what they are about. Watched a few reviews but still on the fence.

Anyone here a fan of the games? I'm not great at RPGs but willing to try.

At one of my previous jobs I was speaking with a client and they mentioned Q Sound, I immediately stopped what I was doing and asked them about it. He gave me Dan Lowe's phone number and as soon as I got off work, I gave him a call.

I spoke with Dan for about 30 minutes and he's a super nice guy, loved to chat about the Q Sound. He said the difference between NES / NEC and Atari was that NES had a chip in the cartridge for audio and the Atari contained audio driver with instructions coming from the game and processing done in game.

Someone named Stolley hired Dan and he worked for Nolan Bushnell attempting to revive Atari but nothing really happened with it. Warner apparently failed to follow through with development.

They also produced a number of games for Nintendo and Sega, they were slow to get going and were mostly inhibited by the consumer .Their purpose was for spatial audio in gaming and they presented it around the world but couldn't get much traction though they did have a deal with Capcom to do their chipsets in their arcade cabinets. Yamaha developed the stereo playback for Sega, Capcom and Konami in the arcade back then. Bell / Aliant and AT&T were silica partners.

Dan left the company in 1993 and it closed down about 9 years ago. He often thinks about what it could have been.

Before we left the call I got his email address and asked him if I could contact him periodically in the future if I ever had more questions for him and he was happy to oblige. I haven't contacted him since (this was around 2019) but I would if there were more questions presented.

Side note, if anyone knows where this unit is right now, I would like to buy it.

I got the photo from Steve lin's twitter. He might still have it.

  3. Whats rarer than the wu tang controller? The box. What's rarer than the box? The wu tang memory card!

Mentioned it before but its my favourite ebay story. While looking up the controller, someone was selling the wu tang: taste the pain memory card. Starting bid at 99p. Googled to confirm it was real but couldn't find anything! With 30 seconds left I thought fuck it, bid, and won. Besides being my favourite rap group, the reason its my favourite story, is because 10 minutes later, I found a £1 coin on the floor. Meaning I got it for free! 😂

  4. Been dancing around what to type here.

I think cheating is fucked up. AFAIK, I've never been cheated on, but I would hate it if I was. That being said, @Richardheadhas been cool with me. I hope you get things sorted.

As for online dating. I was hesitant for years, but took the plunge. 4 dates in 4 months. Been with number 4 for over 3 years, and recently got engaged. I thought I was gonna die single, now, I'm living proof that it's possible.

  5. If you competed in boxing, MMA, wrestling, e-sports, a tiddlywinks tournament or anything else, what music would you walk out to?

My 2 choices are cry now by obie trice or wrong ones by big pun.

Would you pick a song from a game? Maybe you make songs and you pick one of those.

Fantastic interview - short and sweet in true @DarkTone fashion.

Amazing drawings as always (I'm always in awe of good pencil-rendering) - and congrats on the engagement update!

I’d love to hear more about the ZX Spectrum sometime - not many of us North Americans have firsthand experience growing up with those British microcomputers.

That means a lot from an artist like yourself. I only knew another person who had a spectrum, growing up. It was mainly master systems, then commodore, then Nes.
