  1. Well I'll give my honest and fair assessment when I get to it circa 2026.

Mario Odyssey is one of my favorite games of the last decade, so I think it's fair to see I can give kid-friendly games a fair shot.

...however, it will be judged again all the other JRPGs I've played.  It's a levelled playing field as far as I'm concerned.  Historical significance means nothing to me as we all know 😎

I own Metal Gear Solid, but other than 5 minutes of the original NES Metal Gear game, I've never played a Metal Gear game.

They are high on my list though.  I definitely need to get the PS2 titles before they get too insanely priced with time.  I feel like all of those games would be right up my alley.

The PS2 games are dirt cheap and sold like gangbusters.  Unless you want the expanded rereleases.

But even those were ported to every system that's come out since.  The PS5 collection is $30 as we speak.

Why is that a cop-out? Maybe I'm weird, but I could think of 1000 games I'd want in my collection more than an NWC gold.

I'm honestly surprised how many people are just listing rare and expensive stuff if they only had 5 spaces left to fill. Like - wouldn't you want to fill those slots with something you care about and want to play, instead of a hype game? One of the titles on my own list was Star Parodier since it's my favorite cute-em-up and I've never had a physical copy - not crazy expensive and not crazy rare, but I couldn't imagine feeling like my collection was "complete" without it. (So I bought it when I posted this topic haha.)

There's some overlap there.  If I chose Panzer Dragoon Saga, it's partially because I want to play it, and as of right now I don't have a lot of confidence that it will ever happen due to rarity and scarcity of being a low print game that seemingly will never be ported or remade.

But otherwise, yeah, I'm on the same page for NWCs and Competition carts and what not.  I'm in this hobby to play the games.

For sure. I don't really enjoy playing Pokemon, either - but it's interesting to hear that there are avid video game fans who've never even touched it before.

Although - maybe I'm misinterpreting the question... In my mind, if you've so much as pressed a single input on a game, you've "played" it. But I think some people are only considering games they've spent a significant amount of time with, "played". And that really changes the dynamic of the question and introduces taste over exposure.

I had already played through the likes of Final Fantasy III and Chrono Trigger when it came out.  And by 1997, my eyes were on these things:

    image.png.e2f7dc375b8e62ba759becbe09e5fa48.png

The people who were playing Pokeman at that time were "little kids" in my experience.

And then there was never any reason to go back to it.  Gold comes out and I'm playing Baldur's Gate II.  The GBA ones come, and my eyes are on Shin Megami Tensei III.  The DS comes out and I'm buying Strange Journey.  The 3DS comes out and I'm looking at all of the Atlus titles.

The better question is, why play a Pokemon when so many better alternatives exist? 😛

To be clear, I have played Blue, but not for very long.  So I don't count it.  But I will get to it in the backlog challenge so I can finally check it off the list and get rid of it.

Just wrapped up Tunic.  Gotta say it lives up to the hype even if I was a little reserved going in.  Deliberately designed to drop you into the world with zero context, it genuinely feels like the first time you powered up the Legend of Zelda uninformed by decades of sequels.  Obviously it's derivative but Tunic is unique enough to stand on it's own.

It definitely has a Fez vibe to it as well. Not quite so whimsical, Tunic has a more serious tone.  But the developer explicitly spoke on the influence.

Totally worth owning a physical copy and the game almost demands it.  Highly recommended.

  6. Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Fun stuff.  I gave it a half a point higher score than Uncharted 4, as I preferred the pacing more here, and appreciated the optional "fuck around and do things" stuff.  And the tombs and challenges, and all that.  By the end I was pretty content with it though, so it will probably be a year or three until I think about playing the final game in the trilogy.

Rise of the Tomb Raider™ on Steam

    1. Bloodborne (9.5/10)

  7. I'm most of the way through Rise of the Tomb Raider.  Can probably clear the story tonight.

Just started chipping away at Ace Attorney 3 in bed at night

Chipping away at Trails in the Sky SC, which is gonna take forever.

I'll get back to Walking Dead after I finish Tomb Raider.

Maybe get back into Dark Arisen after that.

  8. Just kind of throwing this out there, but my work provides monthly appointments where you get scans and blood work that show your body fat percentage, lean muscle mass percentage, visceral fat, edema, grip strength, body/limb composition breakdowns, vitamin and cholesterol levels, etc.  And it's all tracked so you can see how you're trending on every front.

It is extremely useful stuff, and far better than just looking at a scale.  If you can find local facilities that provide this type of service, I heavily recommend you give them a shot.

And to be clear, this isn't the lower end stuff you might see in a gym.

Even though it ultimately had a decent box office, I think it was a little disappointing when it opened. This was Lucinda Dickey's first movie, but it was released after Breakin' which was a big hit. So Ninja 3 not living up to that, combined with Breakin' 2 completely flopping, led to Breakin' 3 being cancelled and they ended up giving King Solomon's Mine to some actress named Sharon Stone.

I own every one of those on blu 😆

Guess that let's us know where my Cannon fandom lies
