I'm pretty sure I've seen that same lightgun in a few NES collections. My memory could be wrong though.  I think @Speedy_NES would know.

Thanks for the tag @nesmaster14. This item is from Venezuela, released by the Nintendo knock-off "Nintendo de Caracas" company, so it is unlicensed. AFAIK, Nintendo won a lawsuit against the company and their leftover inventory was meant to be disposed of some years ago, but in the process some of it made its way onto markets like eBay. Definitely has collector value, but it is not official Nintendo. They released at least 15-20 different accessories for NES and Famicom.

I've attached a photo of the box.

  2. Nice one. For those not in the know, there's only 30 of these green ones. IIRC #1-30 were green, #31-100 were purple. Great deal as a purple one sold for $150 earlier this year.

    Good luck with the sale.

Yes, of course, rare does not equal valuable.

I knew it was incredibly rare, but when a guy like you chimes in and says it's only the second one you've seen, that's about as rare as it gets to me.

Is there anyone that archives and catalogs things like this?  If there was a database that had rare or unusual accessories and the like, I'd gladly scan things or even send it their way.

    Thanks -- I'll take that as a compliment 🙂

I started acquiring these types of items for that very purpose, to archive and catalog for the community, but obviously stopped sharing that info years ago due to the effect it had on prices. Still have plans to share all that info (or collection) at some point in time, in some shape or form, but not sure yet how.

FYI, the one I have is sealed, so it might be nice to scan your manual if you decide to sell, just to have it documented.

There's actually two versions of the Triton controller, both about equally rare. This one's likely a re-release based on model #.

  4. A whole inventory of new old stock of the US release was found ~10? years ago, so they frequently pop up in new condition, which has affected the price. With the condition that yours is in, I'd estimate current market value at ~$25-35 FYI.

  5. Nice Triton Pad -- like you said, that one's incredibly rare (only seen yours, which I missed in 2012 IIRC, and one I got from a Nintendo employee, which supposedly came from Nintendo of America's own archives). Not much of a mark-up for rare accessories without seal of quality, though. Realistically, you'll probably have a hard time finding a buyer above $40 for it.

This is some amazing stuff, would you ever consider scanning some of it to be preserved? I helped write https://scanning.guide/ and would be happy to assist if you'd be willing to at some point.

    Thanks!

I'd definitely like to scan some of this stuff eventually, but for now, I make sure to preserve it well in a cool and dry place away from light etc. I used to scan everything up until a decade ago, and then time just became too scarce.

You talking about something like a Wisdom Tree thing or something?

Yes, for example, but also from other publishers. From what I've been told, various publishers handed out these unused flattened boxes at CES shows as promo material, and some excess stock have been sold on eBay over the years. I've folded some of these as box upgrades, and they look no different from a new sealed copy with shrinkwrap removed. Not looking to be a negative Nancy, but this should be a real concern for NS graded 'new' games.

I saw an "NS" Light Crusader on Heritage today, a cardboard slide box, which I thought was funny because you wouldn't be able to tell unless you removed the wrap yourself (which I'm sure they did). After joking about it with someone and they didn't really get what NS means, it had me thinking about all the things it could really mean:

    1. No distinguishable difference from CIB but Wata themselves removed the wrap
    2. Unsealed but Wata can tell the box is unopened
    3. Unsealed but a security seal remains
    4. Glue sealed, possibly was originally wrapped and removed
    5. Glue sealed, verified by Wata that it originally came like that (e.g. an Atari glue seal Wata notes was taken directly from a case)
    6. Glue sealed, the only way it ever came
    7. Never sealed, Wata can tell the box is unopened
    8. Incomplete (e.g. graded component of a set or big box)

Not really complaining, just bored musing on a Monday night. New games that came without shrink wrap do get kind of screwed by the NS mark of shame though. NS is basically a mark of "Trust us... it's sort of kind of new if you think about it and just... believe" on Light Crusader, but it's a badge of everything being 100% A-OK on Colecovision Zaxxon. I think the only perfect solution is for everyone to stop caring about Atari, which removes like half of these cases, so we can all hurry up and continue on doing that.

Add 9:  used game with folded new-old-stock box. All you'd need is to match the exact weight of the contents, and there's really no way for them to know for sure that the contents are new or not, unless they open said NS games.

Well, when you made that post originally, my mind went directly to that store, and then when I actually went there for real I picked those up, so I'm thinking absolutely yes! 😄

Hallowed ground, that underground mall in Taipei, for sure, lol!

Awesome! Yeah, that mall is a treat for game fans. Probably had the best banana waffles at this cosplay cafe (had never heard of this concept before) there called Chitty Mood, where the goal of the waiter was to turn everyone's frown upside down. Great experience. 🙂

Well, the Taipei trip turned out to be a bit of a bust on the sealed DC front, tbh.

Plenty of cheap DC games about, but very few sealed. I did manage to pick up 3 very common titles for cheap tho, at least.

Otherwise, I did manage to find something a little interesting, an old third party memory card manufactured right here in Taiwan!

Better than nothing I suppose, and at least I did A LOT better with my N64 pick ups this trip!

Nice pickups -- the top two games were also among the ones I bought in Taipei, wonder if we got them from the same store. Pretty sure I also paid 100 each.

Just gonna hide that Sachen game from me....

Nice catch! 🙂 It's Bingo 75, unfortunately generic release. I don't have the list handy right now, but I believe this one didn't come in any original game-specific packaging, right?

You mean you came to Taiwan and you didn't hit me up?! You KNOW the beers are cooling in the fridge and there's always room on the couch and spare controller for a VGS buddy to stop by! 😉

As for Taipei Mall gamestores, sure I've been plenty of times! However, I live in central Taiwan, so I don't get up there often. I think we've got a Taipei trip planned in October or something, so I'll absolutely hit them up again soon! 🙂

Or he could have slept in a comfy bed at mine, as I slept on the couch with the 🐈. Plus a lot of nice bars in my area serving craft brews and flavourful imports on tap, for reasonable prices.

    But alas, I wasn't contacted either. 😞

Thanks guys! Sorry that I only see this now, took some distance from the forums the last couple months as working from home brought lots of other distractions with it.

I was actually contemplating reaching out to you (to Dave, as I knew with certainty that he was in Taiwan) after I had booked the tickets, but felt it was too short notice at the time as I had booked the trip only a couple days before departure as a spontaneous add-on to a larger Asia/Australia trip. I travel to or through Asia more often, so I'm sure that I'll be in Taiwan again soon, after the Covid situation has settled a bit, and then I'd love to grab some beers and talk games (and maybe do some game hunting, too)! 🙂

  13. Cool stuff! I noticed this in Tapei last November, too, and bought a bunch of sealed DC games at a place in Tapei City Mall. One of the bigger stores there, but I forgot the name. He had a few on display, and when I asked him if he had another copy of a game w/cracked case, he brought out a box of sealed games from behind the counter. You probably already checked all the stores there, but in case not, might be worth checking out.

  14. Another big shout out to Andrew! It is because of his help, that I have been able to add the following cool pieces to the collection. Immensely thankful for your help, Andrew!

Some photos to share the largely paper (but also other media/accessory) goodies. Can anyone spot the highlights? 🙂 Excuse the game stuff in the first photo; not part of the lot, but did not have time to clean the area where I process new arrivals.

Yeah it does say JECO on it yeah! I didn't realise people were interested in these kinds of things tbh... I just think they look cool!

As I said before, Dave gave me this one, so I would assume he knows way more about it than I do! @fcgamer

Cool, yeah, haven't seen this version before. Jeco published a number of different ones, some of them in 7-pin format, too (seem to be harder to find). I started to slowly expand into Famicom accessory territory some years ago and have been picking up things here and there. The transition went more like NES --> NES/Famicom clones --> Famicom 🙂

If I had to pick one, it would probably be my N64 "Feel Everything" bundle. As far as I'm aware, this was a PAL N64 bundled with copies of Ocarina of Time and Mario 64, as well as a promotional VHS. It was exclusive to Nintendo employees in Belgium, for whatever reason. As such, it's incredibly rare, and generally pretty expensive. I've always liked it because it's not only rare and expensive, but it's also something that many people just don't even know exists, which just adds something to it for me. It's pretty dinged up, probably one of the worst condition one of these that exists unfortunately, but I'm still very happy to own it regardless. The outer sleeve is the main distinguishing factor of course. I don't know how many of these are known to exist, but I can't imagine it's higher than double digits. It seems to have become slightly more common since when I got mine, but these things were rare as all hell when I got this one a few years back.

Right one contains the VHS, left one obviously contains the PAL copy of SM64.

I'm in Belgium and I did not even know about it, very nice! The console box sleeve is a common Belgian/French promo console thing.
