  1. Another 2 down: First is WWF King of the Ring. Not much to say other than it still sucks. It has so much potential, but it falls flat pretty hard. It's very slow and the collision detection is questionable. There were several times where I did a dropkick, but it would touch the opponent and not register. The roster might be the only good thing in the game. Music and graphics are pretty hit and miss. And also done is Looney Tunes. This is another game I remember playing as a kid occasionally, but never passed level 1. It looks really easy, but the challenge can get up there in certain spots. The Road Runner level in particular was very difficult, especially if you didn't bounce on the boss multiple times. It's a short but fun game.
  2. Another 2 down: First is Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle 1. This is a game I remember playing as a kid, and I could never get past a certain point. I think it was in the mid-teens. I would get bored and change to a different game. Playing through the whole game turned out to be pretty fun. The hardest level by far was 72, I was stuck there for a while. Strangely the levels after weren't as hard as 72. Seems they just shoved everything into random spots, but they did group levels 64-80 with just pipe levels so I am not really sure what the heck they were doing. Second is WWF Raw. I've been on a wrestling game streak because they aren't too hard, and I was pleasantly surprised with this game. It's very playable, although a bit slow but it isn't that bad. Was expecting worse honestly. There are 2 WWF games left to finish, it would be interesting to see if I can finish all of them, even if they suck. I have been playing Daffy Duck game recently and it's been a lot of fun. I forget the actual name of it. Very similar to the Looney Tunes game. Both are on my list to complete.
  3. You are probably right about Superstars being the best wrestling wise. I am not sure if I remember correctly, but I think I saw opponents heal more than once. Pretty sure it was the final match, which could make sense in theory but it's pretty cheap. I decided to knock out another 2 games, staring with WCW Main Event. Like Superstars 1, this game comes so close but isn't perfect. The game is a little unfair, as I was able to throw my opponents into the ropes and then either kick or clothesline them over and over again. To be fair your opponents could combo you too, but I found it relatively easy to get out of one and then do it again to my opponent. Giving credit to WCW, the game is fairly smooth, which in comparison to Superstars 1 is choppy and slow. It also has a larger roster than both Superstars 1 and 2. But it feels like a fairly standard wrestling game, which isn't bad, but I feel that Superstars 1 is more unique, with pre-match and post-match commentary. It also had the music playing during game play, while 2 and WCW didn't. Out of the four wrestling games I have played so far, I would rank them like this: 1. WWF Superstar 1 2. WCW Main Event 3. WWF Superstars 2 4. The unplayable WWF King of the Ring. It took me 1 hour to get through 2 matches. Yeah, no thanks. It looks to have a slightly better NES version. Maybe if I am really bored, I will come back to this one. Overall, it's not that bad. Next was Amazing Penguin. Strangely enough, the penguin on the title screen sort of resembled the small penguin wearing the top hat in Looney Tunes. Not sure how I made that connection, but whatever lol. This is a fun puzzle game that resembles a number of older games, but I think the arcade game Amidar by Konami is fairly close. I got stuck on several levels in the later 30's towards the end of the game, and I was getting very frustrated. I managed to push through, with a total time of around 3 and a half hours. I don't think I will touch this game again for a while though. Kind of a game where you play it once and then forget about it for a while in my opinion. I was playing Parodius today as well, but I got stuck on level 2 and played Amazing Penguin instead. Not really up for platform-puzzle games, so Crazy Castle is off the list for now. I'm sure I will find something to play. Frogger is looking tempting.
  4. It's been a while (July 31st is when I last posted!) since I last did anything Gameboy, but today I had some free time and decided to go for WWF Superstars 2: I own (and finished) the first game, and I wanted to try out the second game. The first game is ok, but this one in comparison is bad. The control feels delayed, especially when kicking. Every match feels like such a slog, and you really have to work for it. Also, opponents get health back at random times? I think I managed to get some back too, but I don't know how. Very confusing and lame game. The only good things about the game I could say is that the roster isn't awful either, plus their theme music is pretty good. The characters look like people, instead of the weird looking sprites for the first game. Stick to the first game playing wise. Really makes you wish that they had ported one of the Technos arcade games. Even a well playing, scaled down port of Wrestlefest would have been better than all the other games combined. I'm not sure what I am going to do next. I gave up on Boxxle a while ago. I had a few other titles lined up or being worked on, but I either quit or never finished them. Maybe I will look at Parodious or Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle.
  5. Adventure Island 2: Aliens In Paradise is done. Not much of an ending compared to other games, although the credits were nice. This game was really challenging. There would be times where I would spend 30 minutes to an hour on certain levels, especially in worlds 5 and 6, it was pretty miserable. After a while it wasn't so bad, and overall I had fun.
  6. I beat one more game today, this time it's Super R.C. Pro-Am. Despite being on the Gameboy, its actually pretty playable with the occasional slow down here and there. I usually don't do great at the Pro-Am games, and today wasn't an exception, but I had more fun than I expected.
  7. Unlike Hyper Lode Runner, Boxxle is fun at first, but really slows down after floor 2 or so. On that note, Golf is now completed. I had a tough time on the Japan course, but managed to get a par 69 on attempt 6 or 7. The US course was a lot easier, and I got a 66 on my second try. I have actually owned this game for many years on the 3DS virtual console, and I think I completed the Japan course once but it was a terrible score. I really like the music in the game, even though they are short songs. This was a really tough challenge, but unlike Boxxle it was fun to try different approaches.
  8. Ms. Pac-Man is done. I played on "Arcade" mode and finished with a score of 40,790. This might be one of my favorite ports of the game. I guess I should also mention that I beat Super Mario Land 1 and 2. No photo since they are already on the list. Right now I am playing a few games. I was initially playing Boxxle, but I realized early on that it isn't great so I might take a break on that one. I have switched over to more arcade like games including Qix, Mr. Do and Golf.
  9. Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 done. WWF Superstars also done. Finished with Hulk Hogan, using 1 fall and no time limit rules.
  10. It’s been a few months since my last pick up. Here’s some new stuff. I picked up WarioWare: Get it Together at some point. It’s been so long that I don’t remember when I got it. I got tired of collecting NES after I picked up that last bunch of games. In recent times I started collecting for the SNES. I decided to get the hyperkin mouse as well. Next I started to collect North American games. Some of the games aren’t in great shape especially on the back of them but they all work and that’s what’s important to me. I really like the Super Gameboy. It’s cool seeing gameboy games on TV and I like fiddling with the colour palates. I also started to collect some Super Famicom games. I haven’t played Super Mario Kart in a long time, I remembered just how fun it is. Mario’s Picross is cool too. I didn’t know it was a mouse compatible game until recently. Finally we have a few Japanese Gameboy games. Most of the games here I put hours into on various platforms, especially on Golf and Mario Land 2. Also I have to say, I really like the artwork on Golf and Baseball. Feels a lot different than what we got in North America. Maybe not everyone likes them, but I had a lot of fun playing them as kid. That’s it for now. Thanks for reading.
  11. I own it. Only ever played it a few times despite owning it for years because my copy doesn’t really work most of the time. Haven’t played it in a while. I remember thinking that the game wasn’t great. The manual that you have probably would have helped. The intro was pretty cool. You have the choice of multiple missions before taking off. I also remember there being a pretty clear voice telling you to take off the carrier. That’s all I remember liking of the game. It seems like most people like the game. Maybe if I gave it more time I might like it. There’s a SNES version (or sequel?) that looks like a lot of fun.
  12. These are pick ups from the past 2 months (roughly) including birthday pickups: First up is Ring Fit Adventure. I believe this was on sale when I bought it. Next is an ok copy of Kirby’s Dreamland. Also pictured are the manuals from Baseball and Arch Rivals on the NES. The Arch Rivals was not included when I got my copy, and was a separate purchase. Baseball did come with the game. Finally we have an absolute ton of NES games, including another 3 for my Black Box set. These came from various places and from various people. I’d say my favourite games from this lot are Super Dodge Ball, Punch-Out and Slalom, but they are all pretty fun. As mentioned Baseball came with the manual and Casino Kid has a small hole in the case and label, though it’s not enough to notice in my opinion. It may not seem like a lot to most people, but this brings my total NES collection to 50 games, and 12 for the Black Box games. I can still remember the day close to 8 years ago or so when I went down to the game store and was deciding on my first game Between Yoshi’s Cookie and... Super Pitfall. Yeah. I chose Yoshi obviously, and in the long run that was the smart choice. Thanks for reading and have fun hunting .
  13. Here is a bunch of pick ups from over the past month or so: First off we have a PowerA Mario Wireless controller, The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild and Mario Party Superstars. The controller and Zelda are from Black Friday. Next is the Zelda Game and Watch. For the Gameboy we have The Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle and Monopoly. Up next is After Burner and Bank Panic for the Sega Master System. Unfortunately my system is having issues so I can’t enjoy these games as much as I wish I could. Finally we have a bunch of NES games including Blades of Steel, Gotcha, Star Force, Arch Rivals, Ivan “Ironman” Stewart’s Super Off Road, Urban Champion, Q*bert and Rolling Thunder. Not pictured is a loose copy of New International Track and Field with the manual for the DS. Have a safe and Happ Holidays and thanks for reading!
  14. Interesting story that’s kind of a pick-up. I was apart of an e-waste clean up team at my school this past week. We visited a room which already had a lot of stuff, and we continued to add things to it. There was tons of stuff. We found a 1980’s microwave, various TV sets, printers and lots of older Dell computers which we are getting rid of now. While digging and making a path to get the back to put more computers in storage, I came across 4 things we decided to remove from the pile as “historical artifacts” and would save. 1. A 1990’s or early 2000’s Compaq computer. The one we chose said it was still working as of 2005/2006. I believe this was the main computer (or one of the) of choice before we moved to a Dell/HP combo. 2. An Apple 2e. I believe this is an older unit judging by the badge. No idea if it works but still cool. This is the oldest computer we found. 3. A matching (I think?) monitor for the Apple 2e that believe it or not, boots up and works. We haven’t tested it beyond that. And finally, 4. A Commodore 1702 monitor. No idea if it works. Unfortunately, I didn’t find it see any Commodore computers to go with the monitor. No one seemed to care about the 1702, so I asked if I could take it home and, sure enough I am. I don’t have it yet, it’s currently sitting safely at the school and I will pick it up later sometime this week. Here are some photos I took: Here’s what I was working with. You can see the 1702 in photo 1. It’s the grey monitor in the middle of the photo. The Apple 2e we found. The Apple monitor powered on. I think I have run into this exact same monitor earlier this year. The Commodore monitor. Looks fairly clean. I don’t remember the manufacture date on the back. The 2 monitors sitting together for the last time. I always dreamed about finding some sort of a retro device like this at a school, but I never dreamt I would actually find one, let alone a Commodore product. Thanks for reading!
  15. For the ones I own, it’s just generic beeping, but the tone depends on the series. For example Donkey Kong Hockey in the Micro Vs series has a more higher and lighter pitch, while games like Donkey Kong Jr and Mario’s Cement Factory are louder and have a lower tone. They last for about a minute or 2 until you press the time button. I like to change them up from time to time, so I can see the little animations on each one.
  16. The last bit of July was full of exciting pick ups. Everything I have gotten over the past month or so should keep me satisfied for a while. Firstly I managed to acquire a PS3 and a PS2. I am very excited to start collecting for the PS2 again. Next we have Activision Anthology and Midway Arcade Treasures 3 on the PS2 to continue my compilation collection, plus a few Jakks Pacific Mario Figures that I saw lying around Walmart. I’m assuming that this is a semi replacement for the World of Nintendo series as I haven’t seen any new products in a long time. Finally we have Sega Superstars Tennis for PS3, Mario Golf Super Rush for Switch, and Alleyway, WWF Superstars and Super Mario Land to temporally end my collecting for the Game Boy, as I am ok with the small collection I have now. Mario’s Cement Factory is excellent and it’s one of my favourites in my collection. It’s what I have been using to get up every morning for a while .
  17. This arrived in the mail a while ago. The box is a little beat up but the contents were brand new. This also arrived around time of LEGO dimensions give or take a few days. It was also sealed. Finally I happened to be in the area of my local game store yesterday so I went in and picked a few things up. I had to return Action Fighter today because it wouldn’t work due to an apparent “bad chip”, so I exchanged the broken one for a new copy that worked plus I also bought Qix. Not bad for 2 days.
  18. A few pick ups for what was a pretty awesome week. First this showed up in the mail on Wednesday. The case isn’t in the best shape, but the disc is really clean. Then I today I went back down to the game store to pick more stuff up. Firstly I got a Zapper and Hyperkin Famicom adapter. The zapper makes so much more noise than the Sega Master system gun lol. I needed a Famicom game to test the adapter out, and the only one I saw worth picking up was Super Star Force. And finally I added 2 more to the NES black box collection: Kung Fu and Gyromite, both are 5 screws. Kung Fu has a sticker on the back for a rental store in a city close to where I live. Pretty cool!
  19. Yes I am. It’s a great store for sure. I have spoken to them a few time and they are great guys. Last time I was down there to return a master system controller one of the employees was attacked by some crazy guy. The police were there and everything, I wasn’t there for too long. I think it might have been one of the brothers. Hopefully they are doing well. The area has really gone down the drain unfortunately. I’ll consider those stores as well. I don’t venture out of Toronto much but when I do I usually try and stop at stores like those. Thanks for the recommendation
  20. My speculation was that it was a money thing. The line ups are pretty long, so I assumed that this was a way to get as many people in and out to get as money as quickly as possible in the few hours they are open. I don’t know or care to know why they do this. I should really start going to more stores. I’ve only ever been to this one since it’s the most popular and biggest in the area to my knowledge. I know where some others are located, but this one has alway been relatively “close” to me. Even then it’s still a long trip going down, that’s not even considering traffic. Maybe I’ll go farther this weekend depending on time. Oh and they updated the website to now say “we would appreciate visits to be no longer than 10 minutes”, which was how it was when I visited on Saturday. Very strange.
  21. I’m just as confused as you are. The website for the store says (it said this while I was looking yesterday too) that they would “appreciate visits that are no longer than 10 minutes”, and that we should know what we are looking for. They weren’t allowing a ton of people into the store, I think it was a max of 4 in the video game side and 2 in the card side. My sister and I waited for a bit outside, probably longer than we were inside the store. Once we got in, an employee told us that we had a maximum of 10 minutes. That’s different than what was on the website... The same employee who told us that we had a time limit appeared to have a timer of some sort, I really didn’t get a good look since I was busy rushing through the games. As to why, I don’t know. I can speculate of course. I also don’t know if they kick people out, as I was there briefly and the instance never came up. Edit: just as I finish typing this, the website was changed a few times, as I was viewing it while typing. The first edit was changed to say a maximum of 10 minutes. The second edit and most current one says to be no longer than 10 minutes. How convenient. Oh well.
  22. I got these 2 at the local game store today. Tennis has been a game I have been on the look out for a very long time, but I could never find it. It’s a 5 screw version. Joust had sticker residue but I cleaned it off with just my finger as there wasn’t too much. Would have picked up more but the store had a time limit on how long you can be in there for, and I didn’t get a good look at all the games. Definitely going back next week to pick up a few titles that I did see but didn’t get. Donkey Kong 3 being one of them as I actually put it down, and I regret not getting it today.
  23. This showed up in the mail yesterday. Was lazy and only posted today lol. I also reacquired my childhood copy of Midway Arcade Treasures from a family member who found it buried beneath other random CDs and tapes. The game case with manual, extra lose copy which I got to replace this one, and the 3 other PS2 games I had are on loan to another family member. It’s good to have this game back. Not like I have a way to play these games right now. I am waiting for another 2 games in the mail, so until I get all the games (which should be by late June or early July), I won’t think about getting a system. Strangely enough right now I only have 1 PS1 game, 1 PS2 game and 1 PS3 game and they are all compilations. Weird. Going down to the local video game store tomorrow, with a possible trip to a local thrift store to quench my thirst to buy games since most stores have reopened in my area.
  24. Some recent pick ups: Super Mario 3D World+Bowser’s Fury was picked up in March by my sister. Originally she wanted the game, but we negotiated on a trade so that she can keep Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, of course when I purchase one. The other 4 just came in about an hour ago. Super Bomberman R was always a game I saw in stores but never picked it up. I liked Captain Toad on the Wii U, so I figured I should pick it up. I got Minecraft to play with friends. Clubhouse games was a game I really wanted to pick up when it came out, but I somehow forgot about it and only picked it up now.
  25. Thanks! I never hear anyone talk about the black box games, but some of them are a lot of fun once you play them for a while! Popeye is definitely my favourite. I have beaten Dr Mario, but it was a long time ago and I used the GBA classic NES series version. I was really good at it when I was a kid, now I’m a bit rusty. I never understood the ending, but I really liked the music that played. I always forget that Sonic was released in the US. My copy does not have the UPC sticker on it.
