  1. I tried to ignore the advertisement for sake of believing Mahesh, but you know..
  2. It's possible the plastic was locally molded. What's the inside look like?
  3. For reference, this is the photo he sent me (see the attached image.) Also for reference, in talking about the posibility of Samurai selling Famiclones/pirate carts, Mahesh had this to say: "Samurai could only source from Nintendo. After 7 years Samurai sold console with one free official cartridge. Rest the grey market [ Parrallel] Market supplied. Most of samurai Distributors and Dealers started stocking and selling Pirated versions and there was no Option for us to do this" "All Games were always from Nintendo. After about 5 Years Nintendo did allow Samurai to source directly from developers but it was too late and Original cart sale was virtually ZERO. Samurai Consoles were selling with one free cartridge but all consumers purchased extra Catrts from Grey market." "Samurai initiated several Court cases to stop all this Piracy and misuse of Brands and it did result in stopping use of Samurai with Microgenius but Microgenius all alone was already selling very well due to very low Price and steady quality" "Nintendo Officials visited India and we took them around to dealers / wholesales selling Pirated Carts in Bulk . Photographs were taken but nothing could be done to stop them " "Samurai only sold official Nintendo Chips in Nintendo Plastic Shells with Samurai Label" After 6 years in 1993 Taiwan and China introduced imitation Consoles at 25% of Samurai Price and multigame cartridges at 10% of Samurai Price resulting in steep drop in Samurai Sales . After 2 years trying to Fight China . As Mr S.K. Lal had other countries as an agent he always resisted sale of Imitation Consoles in India . No Nintendo did not cancel contract as they could understand that NES can Not sell at the price we had once China came in with Pirated Version. Due to very Poor Piracy law implementation in India at that time no one could do anything and Nintendo sales died down automatically resulting in Huge Losses to SAMURAI . Microgenius was a Taiwan Brand introduced in India by another parallel Video Game Distributor . " "Samurai never moved into Piracy and closed down Operations due to heavy Losses trying to fight Piracy" Clearly, these were all lies. Also it's great to see you included the Samurai advertisment But I also would like to now add this Which, your photo has just confirmed Samurai was indeed behind! Thank you very much, as this 'closes' the Indian chapter of my book, since the only thing I had left to write in it was an analysis of whether Samurai were selling pirate products. No analysis needed: the answer is yes!
  4. Then, Mahesh lied to me in an email. Also see https://web.archive.org/web/20080918224605/http://samuraiindia-nintendo.com/index.html also cool video but some notes region lockout would have been 3196 then 3196A, not 3195/A. In terms of the 3,000 units per month number, Mahesh said this was the minimum order from Nintendo, which coincides with a number I have from a certain other distributor. But who knows, maybe Nintendo wasn't as cruel as one mayt hink. There were two companies. Samurai Electronics, which handled assembly of consoles, and Samurai Software which handled assembly of cartidges. I guess, like you, Mahesh refused to answer as to whether Samurai ever sold pirate games or consoles themselves, given https://www.indiatoday.in/magazine/economy/story/19911015-indian-entertainment-electronics-industry-goes-through-turbulent-times-814947-1991-10-15 and https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:IdrxHA9MnCEJ:https://www.quickcompany.in/trademarks/540483-miclo-genius+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=pl&client=firefox-b-d Mahesh sent me a similar picture used in the last couple of seconds in your video as well which I thought was amazingly cool, but he never sent that pic of the kiosk. However. Those last two pictures are important (at 11:03 in your video), and I think they clear up the question as the whether Samurai sold pirate consoles/games. It is very clear from the first photo in the video, that the posters have the Famiclone (pictured here: on them. NOT original Samurai NES consoles. This puts any doubt in my mind that to rest, and I can say with certainty that Samurai did indeed sell Famiclones. Did they do it with Nintendo's unofficial approval though, is a good question (like Dendy in Russia.)
  5. hey @OP how much did you pay for this? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Gun-Smoke-1988-Nintendo-NES-Rev-A-Video-Game-w-Original-Art-VGA-Graded-85-Wata/333655892219?hash=item4daf70e0fb:g:Z1oAAOSwSaVfMFi- I like collecting 'Nintendo fucked up' misprints..
  6. Unfortunately everything this person (I KNEW! it was an asian writer..) is probably correct/true. Fortunately, nobody in this thread really cares
  7. I have one of these VGA graded (95), a few years (like 10) back a couple boxes of them were auctioned on Yahoo JP. Also I don't understand your question. "Its coming up on HA soon." Are you selling it on HA, or are you wanting to buy it?
  8. OP literally made this thread to cause outrage, so the auction gets more attention. Also lol @ posting links saying games are rare. https://gaming.ebaumsworld.com/articles/10-incredibly-rare-games-worth-thousands-of-dollars/85487493/ has SMB Asian Version at 30k USD, for example. So many stupid posts saying they have 30k now..
  9. New blog, maybe some will enjoy it: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/some-thoughts-cross-cultural-video-game-music-joshua-rogers/?published=t

  11. I will post a youtube link when it goes live. https://online.paxsite.com/schedule/panel/world-of-nintendo-exploring-nintendo-in-eastern-europe
  12. well there was a lot of sharing between disributors around 1996 onwards so that's not surprising. not so much for nes/snes though. GiG stickers over mattel logos are super common of course for everything.
  13. No it was Stadlbauer, they were the distributor for Austria and Switzerland until like 2014 for Nintendo, they also held distribution rights to all of central/eastern europe. In terms of NES, products would be coded -FRG. Not sure if this region code exists for GB though. I'm surprised that GiG ones are not 'real' boxes, since everything else GiG has GiG printed on the boxes, nes, snes, etc.
  14. probably have the hungarian manual somewhere too. these 2 gameboys were sold in Poland. The DMG probably was parallel import. The GB Color is by the Nintendo distributor, not sure of any differences between the boxes and other Austrian releases, but that manual was inserted by Nintendo's distributor for CZ/HU/PL. Also that GB from Russia came with this manual too
  15. there are hungarian and czech models too, probably other east european ones too, but i don't have pics of them. i have a pic of the manual for the gameboy from CZ somewhere though
  16. 2 Russian version Gameboys. 2 Polish GBs. Don't know codes to the boxes sorry
  17. Oh and also for those interested, I will be talking about how the Asian Version NES was released before the nation-wide NES release in America, and even before the PAL-B September release.
  18. An update: You'll be able to watch the presentation here: https://www.twitch.tv/PAX3 Thursday, September 17th at 10:15am - 10:45am PDT I'll be talking about the NES in: Israel, South Africa, India, Korea, and focusing on the whole of Central/Eastern Europe. Including looking at the incredibly rare Polish version of the NES that was released at the end of 1993. And the Hungarian NES from 1991, as well as the Hungarian National Nintendo Championship from 1992 (zoom in on that manual). Will also be looking at the distribution of the NES in other EE countries, for example, the Czech Republic & Slovakia Croatia And even looking at how Nintendo products were distributed by the company behind the Dendy Famiclone in Russia and its surrounding countries. I will post a youtube link here after it's been shown live
  19. >Madden 95 was the first major game to have black players NFL on NES, in 1989. Pele's Soccer on Atari. lakers vs celtics on Genesis. political poop
  20. I assume it will be recorded, and if not I'll upload it (it's all pre-recorded anyways) I will include about 20 seconds looking at the Israeli NES Mostly, it will look at the NES in the Poland and in Hungary. But I'll also be mentioning basically every single country east of Germany and Italy, including Greece.
  21. I will be presenting at PAX Online next month, looking at the distribution of the NES in Eastern/Southern Europe. The presentation is called "World of Nintendo: Exploring Nintendo in [Eastern] Europe" and will go live Thursday, September 17th at 10:15am PDT. I won't be talking about the Dendy / Pegasus / other Famiclones, but rather the official releases of the NES (and GB and SNES) that the whole of Eastern Europe saw, by Nintendo. Anyone interested in the NES from 1990-1996 should tune in. https://online.paxsite.com/schedule/panel/world-of-nintendo-exploring-nintendo-in-eastern-europe
