    Thanks Gloves!

This isn't a big deal or nuthin, but you say that an ignored thread won't be visible "AT ALL while browsing the forum. It'll be wholesale GONE for you." But I still see ignored threads previewed on the Latest Posts feed on the front page.

I just noticed that my ignored topics are showing up on the front page from my desktop.  The ignored topics do not display from mobile though.  Looks to be a desktop version only issue from my end.  Hopefully that helps narrow down the issue for @Gloves and others.

I'm constantly on the Vita playing NES games.  Haven't played a Vita game in years. 😆

Ha.  It's my PS1 device until I setup a SMB server for freemcboot.  The good stuff on Vita seems to have all made it to the PS4/PC anyhow.

I do that once or twice a year.  As much as I love my hacked Vita, I like the face buttons on the PSP better.  My PSP is toast though.

I'm good for a day or two will it then it's back on the shelf.  There's are a lot of great games for it but I never give it the time it deserves.  I've already returned to the 3ds.

I have quite a few from that time period.  I can PM you when I have it cataloged.  Do you live anywhere near MI?

I'm west of Cleveland.  I head up to the Port Clinton/Marblehead area often enough as well.  If you are cataloging anyhow a PM would be great.  I can run it by my wife and gauge her interest.

  5. I had a lot of fun walking through shops in Japan and looking at all the boxes.  All of it looks great.  We do have a Japanese Ocarina of Time and Yoshi Story. Both are a lot better than the US versions.  Also the plastic insert instead of cardboard is a plus.

Hopefully one thing they learned was that making everything 3D and/or basing it on a ready-made framework didn't save them the budget they had imagined, and definitely didn't help the game's visual appeal either.
I feel like we could have gotten a much better, tighter, less buggy, and faster result result with a completely 2D game, and maybe the game would have also run properly on Switch then, and didn't have to load for minutes on PS4. Of course that's still a hard sell in the 2010s, and probably the 2020s also, but even with 3D models they probably should have shot for a more specialized game engine...

I would prefer a 2D game over the current art style.  Lots of indie games have great pixel style art now.  I think of Dead Cells as an example of levels and enemies.  Something like that would work for me.  SOTN style sprites would be ideal but I can get why they may scale back a bit.

  7. I thought the game was fantastic.  Once I saw the specs for Switch in a kickstarter update I preordered the PC.  I was concerned about how many cuts needed to be made and it turns out I made the right choice changing platform.  If they make a sequel it will be a day one buy for me.  They had to learn a lot making the first and I think they would succeed in improving with a followup.

Scaling back the shards a bit would be nice.  The variety was cool but I only ever experimented with a few.  SOTN having a few spells and transformations kept the quality up.  Other than that I am fine.  The story doesn't mean much to me in this type of game.  It can be as cliche or anime as they want.  I just read it and move on to the gameplay.

I like the idea, but I think what you listed above should be broken up. Hardmodding and repair deserve their own threads/categories. Maybe also add a "Where can I find?" section? Maybe someone needs to find a guide on softmodding a DS or needs a link to an SNES flashcart or something along those lines.

I wouldn't mind them all in one or two subforums myself. I've been on forums that segment too much and most of them become dead. Everything seems to get thrown into the general catgeories instead.

Modder listings and guides could turn into stickies or wikis of sorts.

  9. I'm currently playing through MM on 3DS along with a few other games.  So far it has been a love/hate experience.  The puzzles are just not clicking for me.  A few of the dungeons took longer than expected.  I am working through side stuff and am having mixed results again.  I follow the hints in a way that makes sense to me with maybe 50% success.  I've put it down for a few days because I just get frustrated.  The world and residents are really interesting so I really hope I can see it through.

I'd love to hear that character announcement.  The collective gnashing of teeth on reddit and YouTube would probably cause the entire internet to sink into itself.

"WHO?!  WHERES WALUIGI AND WALUIPEACH AND WALUIONKEY KONG!!!?????"

That would be fun.  I didn't pay attention to Smash from the N64 to the Wii U.  Seeing the internet's fascination with Waluigi in Smash among other things is pulling me away from the series all over again.

  11. @Skorp You are right that they are listening.  So far the Switch has felt like a return to form for many series.  I really hope they keep it up and give us some new Pilotwings among others.  Bringing back Snap is giving me hope for the less popular games.  I'll stop dreaming and just wait to see what The Pokemon Company has for us next week.

It is a little hard to pin down.

It's fast paced because the movement is smooth and there is a timer and you have to decide whether you want to spend time looking for better weapons or to ger to time locked doors that give you more goodies.

Although the levels procedurally generate, levels have a little familiarity because there are certain thing levels will always have, including preset and non-changing branching paths.

The large variety of weapons lets you come up with unique ways to approach the game, and because the weapons are different each play through you are forced to use weapons you might usually pass on.

The later levels kind of push you away from hand to hand combat weapons because the enemies get too dangerous.

The downside, a run can get kind of boring because once you have a weapon strategy that works its rinse, wash, repeat.

This is a very accurate.  The game is very smooth and feels great to play.  You will find a load out in a run and just keep going with it.  Once I completed my first clear I haven't gone back but the hours leading up to that were great.

How much does a disc drive cost?  Has to be less than $100

I bought a 4K drive for my PC last year at $100.  I bet Sony could get them for a lot less.

If you wait and they didn't you'd still get the chance to buy an upgraded Slim/Pro console wich to me seems much more valuable than the shape or color anyway.

That is really what I should do. I upgraded PS4 and Xbox to the better models. It was an expensive improvement when I mostly game on PC/Switch.

There’s no way Sony doesn’t eventually release an all black version. Seems like a no brainer to me.

I'm really hoping they do. If not I am waiting for the right limited edition.

I would put Zelda and other games like it in a broader quest/RPG sort of category; that is the "quest" part means games that are like RPGs but don't have RPG kinds of things like turn based combat, experience points, HP/MP and so on.

*looks up in urban dictionary* You do know the main point of that topic was to ask if you prefer different kinds of chick characters in games...the term waifu does not have to necessarily mean a sexy chick right?

I could see that.  There is certainly a difference between turn based, story driven games and the more open world quest experience.  Unfortunately I have a hard time committing to the JRPG style since I don't like stepping away for a few weeks and forgetting the story.  Now I typically mess with the western style.

I read through the thread and contributed if I recall.  Brought up how I liked the different characters from Final Fantasy X (Yuna, Rikku, and Lulu all had distinct personalities I could relate to in different ways).  I don't think it has to be a sexualized term but I have a feeling Googling it wouldn't do any favors for that argument.  My wife and I use it with a much more innocent intent.
