Real or fake and potential value of this gem?

Recommended Posts

This potential gem popped up locally and looks to be in pretty good shape. It has a couple really tiny holes in the seal and a scratch on the front, but other than that it looks great to the nexperienced eye. Is this game legit, what would you value this at and would it be worth to get graded?

Thanks for all answers in advance!

I am having some trouble adding pictures. Can someone help me reducing the size of some of my pictures? They are too large. I have a total of 13, only managed to reduce size and add 5. Here is a link to the imgur with all the pictures:

Linking to your images on imgur works the charm since there's no size limit when you do so.

Regarding the game itself, I am no pro and will let others pop in with their thoughts. Like yourself, it looks fine to me. I'd not know a specific games seal folds and whatnot though, personally.

Maybe @AdamW has an idea, if I'm not mixing up names (if I recall, he knows Pokemon).

Every detail on the box looks correct to me, including some fakes usually get wrong. The text seems slightly 'heavy', but this may just be a slight printer offset (you can see a sort of white 'fringe' around the Seal of Quality indicating this too).

It's the black-ESRB y-fold print, which I count as the last print. These are the sealed sales of that print I have logged:

enddate listid condition grader price
---------- -------------- --------- ------ -------
2021-01-12 393092706534 64 1638.89
2021-02-04 383919738146 79 5100
2021-03-07 274700774067 70 5900
2021-04-04 154393318030 60 2132.47
2021-04-19 324565608668 94 WATA 11211
2021-04-29 402808023352 70 3350
2021-05-11 312119-67055.s 70 WATA 3840

where there is no grader, it was ungraded and the condition is an estimate by me. listid is eBay or HA listing ID (you can look up the listings from those if you want to see them, the earlier eBay listings will be deleted by now, though).

For the WATA copies the condition is the WATA condition multipled by 10. From the pics shown I would grade yours at maybe 85-90, but you obviously cannot rely on my grades at all as a guide to what a real grader would give you with the actual item in hand, I only grade very approximately for my own purposes. Yours is definitely in nicer shape than the copies I graded 64 to 70, though. 64 would be "somewhat squashed". 70 would be "obvious folds or dings".

@AdamW Thanks for sharing your opinion and knowledge. I really appreciate it! The only damage on the box that isnt miniscule wear, is that it is a little pushed in on the bottom of the front. Did you catch that in your initial experience based "grade"? You can see it on the picture, other than that it looks pretty good. The seal has some wear, but is still in A-B+ condition in my opinion based on Wata's grading scale and how hard they deduct on the couple of tiny holes and the slight scratch in the seal on the front.

Again, thanks. Really appreciate the information!

@FjeldernI wasn't sure about that, it was hard to see. That'd make me go more to 85 rather than 90 then I guess. But again I'm no kind of expert grader, I'd trust other folks here more than me - and just looking at other graded games to get a feel is always a good idea. Hope it all works out well for you!
