Genesis game batteries dying

It seems like most o the Genesis games I have that use a battery are dead, while NES/SNES games seem to remain saveable (I think I have 1 SNES game with a dead battery). Obviously wear and tear are partly to blame but has anyone else noticed this? Did Sega just use crappier batteries or was the way they were used simply not optimized the way Nintendo had done?

Did genesis games even use batteries? Sonic 3 i know for sure didn't.

Most of the sports games did. I know for sure Madden  93, 96 and College Football did. So did a lot of the RPGs like Crusader of Centy and Ys III.

I mean, it's just luck of the draw. I've had to change batteries on most cartridges for nes, snes, gameboy. I've never had to on genesis as I never had any that saved...

I changed batteries of two genesis games but both had the issue of the battery not touching the circuit board contact. I still changed the battery since I had the cart open it doesnt take too long to change.

As far as battery types, they're the same CR2032 batteries found in NES, SNES, and IIRC, N64.
