Shoot - this thing is cool.

I may not like the Pikachu Nintendo 64 console, but something about this guitar is just the perfect blend of goofy and awesome.

@fcgamer - you're a guitarist, right? Do novelty guitars like this actually have potential to be good instruments, or are they generally just fun to look at?

With the right guitarist, you can make any guitar sound good.  However, having a nice amp, effects board and the knowledge of how to use them can go a long way too. Oh, and as a last resort, update the pick-ups and you can make any guitar sing.

@T-Pac basically what @RH said is correct. For reference, I currently busk and do gigs with an acoustic guitar that cost me $150, made in China, and it's a decade old. Even worse, there's a hole in it covered up by a monster energy drink sticker due to some drunken shenanigans after a performance once. My bandmate is playing on a $2500 violin, and he hates it when I point out the reality of my guitar. To top it off, I'm not even a great guitarist, rather Ive just been playing for twenty years so I can fake it a bit.

I've seen truly talented guitarists make a crappy or cheap guitar shine; similarly, I've had the opportunity of playing on some expensive 2K+ guitars that some professional musicians friends of mine have. Such guitars do sound better, but they are much, much easier to play as well, due to better craftsmanship. Think about it comparing a Nintendo first party controller to a cheap, stiff Chinese one. On the latter you could still get incredibly skilled playing a game, but there's a disadvantage initially. If you're truly an expert at the game though, you'll adjust in no time and still perform at a high level.

Hi! I saw your post about the 2001 limited Pikachu guitar.
I actually own one of the original 40 guitars released in Japan!
It's not in mint condition, but still fully intact.

I bought it back then just out of curiosity, and recently started looking into it again—only to find there's almost no information out there.
So I was really surprised and excited to see your post!

Let me know if you'd like pictures or more details.

Of course! Here are some pictures of the guitar.
It's never been used, but due to long-term storage, there are some scratches and stains.
Let me know if you'd like close-ups of any specific parts!IMG_2896.jpeg.d87c300b33a1eba7d7e9b731d08fdbb6.jpeg

Dang this is one of the coolest things I've seen posted in ages!

Odds are the only vague level you could put to it would be remove pikachu from it for a moment, what is the base value of a guitar of that quality and ability and get a range.  Then factor in the amount of them, again, outside of pikachu as it can't be the only limited run, and then finally guesstimate a poke-fan value.  You start at some high but not deluded high water mark as you think the three would factor in knowing the first two points are more solid values to land on, and let the pokemon/nintendo collector insanity drive the final price itself.

Let's say it's nornally a $500 guitar if it were basic no branding other than maker.  Then if there are comps on if they did similar sized limited runs before of some branded thing, what did they fall in...let's say $2000-3000.  Now the guess, what is a pikachu worth?  $500, $5000?  Two idiots bid warring it out?  It could be a $5000 or $10000 guitar.  It's really too gray to say.

Thanks for the detailed breakdown—this makes a lot of sense and really helps me look at it from a more structured angle.

You're right, starting from the guitar’s base value, then the rarity factor, and finally the collector craze is probably the best way to estimate it.

I might actually test it with an open auction someday just to see where it lands!

English isn’t my strong suit, so selling through an international auction feels a bit intimidating—but I’ll give it a try!

Only way I think you'd be able to tell is an open auction.

Any numbering on it?

Thanks for the suggestion!
I checked the guitar carefully, but unfortunately I couldn’t find any serial number on it.
It might not have been individually numbered.
An open auction does seem like the most realistic way to find its value, though!

If there’s info to be gleaned about the manufacture of the guitar you’ll need clear pictures of the headstock front and back.

Thanks! That’s a good point.
I’ll take and upload some clear photos of the front and back of the headstock soon.
Hopefully that helps identify more details about the guitar!

Dang.  Really lacking in any stamps on there.  Those tuners are Gotoh tuners though which are solid quality and a well known Japanese company.  Says it’s not FirstAct Walmart level quality.  Japanese manufactured guitars are normally well respected for their quality.  I‘m not really a gear guy (I’ve been playing on the same guitar for 20+ years now lol) but with like Fenders and stuff I believe the Japanese manufactured ones are often preferred to US produced.  I’ve always heard great things about Yamaha too as far as price to quality is concerned.  Mind you none of this is in anyway helpful to actually pricing your item lol.

Maybe this is a dumb question but what does the letter say?

Also, what about the body cavity?  Anything in there?
