Mickey Mouse-Inspired Horror Game 'Infestation 88' Announced

New horror game on the way thanks Steamboat Willie entering public domain.

Looks like Five Nights at Freddy's wannabe, but I feel a sense of satisfaction at The Mouse being the villain 🙂

From IGN: We're changing our game's name to 'Infestation: Origins'. Our game, "Infestation 88" is set in the 1980s with the year 1988 chosen simply due to its symmetrical design in the game's artwork/logo. Unfortunately, we were unaware of any additional meanings the number 88 has. However, after learning about this, we're changing the game's name to "Infestation: Origins." We apologize for our ignorance on this and appreciate that this was brought to our attention so we could address it ASAP!

God damn it lol, even my birth year isn't safe anymore.

The ADL has an excellent definition and database of hate symbols --

Sadly, numerous numbers, symbols, gestures, have been usurped by POS hate groups -- including the OK gesture 😕

Yeah I heard about that one years ago. I refuse to acknowledge the OK gesture as suddenly not cool to use; that was a prank by 4chan.

I don't believe 99% of that stuff.  Back in my time in crypto around 2010-2015, I managed to get to know a few people with "power" that were probably parts of groups like "anonymous".  I would have thought they were lying/bragging in the IRC channels about their capabilities except every now and then they would peacock and say they were about to take down major sites sites for 2-3 minutes, or they would publish sensitive (but mostly harmless), hacked information from corporations.  I've witnessed this and can verify that many of those people could do what they said they could do.

These individuals were almost entirely from East Europe, and the reason why I say many of these signs and symbols aren't "hate" symbols is because to these guys, they had their real fun was with mass-psychological "hacking".  To them, breaking into important, corporate computers lost most of it's fun but manipulating people and perception at-large was what they really enjoyed.  The few years I spent with them, I learned how they often would construct "profiles" of things like the ok symbol, that frog (which was a very old one), other symbols and they would present them in racist/Nazi/misogynist/whatever ways and through propagation of mostly 4chan, reddit and Facebook, they could create "fake" hate that would get attention, bubble up and then literally make the American news.

I say this because the fact is, these guys didn't hate non-whites and were not Neo-Nazis.  What they enjoyed was planting anonymous information, make it look like it was organic and suckering people and news sites into believing that this stuff was real.  And they did it well.

To be clear, they wouldn't just bait the left and contort it's portrayal of the American Right.  That was a big, fun game for them but in general they hated America, left, right or center.  Most "Right Wing" conspiracies like Pizza-gate were probably started by them.  That one hit a bit after my time but I think it had the tell-tale signs of typical Eastern-European manipulation.  This was all a game to them.  I wouldn't say they were anarchists but for them they got their kicks out of manipulating American media, and seeding lies.  We're so divided, left or right, we'll believe just about anything negative these manipulators would put out there regarding the opposition.

A good rule I can give you after that former experience is that after extensive research, if any information or trend seems to originate from 4chan (because that was always their starting place) then it's not some group of right or left-wing loons.  It's probably a few guys from Eastern Europe trying to manipulate American media.
