No I don't think she was a very controversial judge as far as this sort of thing goes...if anything she was often the "swing vote".  I think she was also the first female justice to swear in a Vice President (1989).

The only thing people ever got worked up about things with her is she'd get accused by the loser in an argument that she was a flip flopper who just went with the crowd to break a tie.  An honest justice, she stuck to the law and didn't get into creative interpretation and public grandstanding.
