It's totally fair not to trust Kickstarter (there isn't any guarantee about what you're going to get), but I'd suggest it makes more sense to trust or distrust a particular person/creator instead of the platform.  When Khan or @SoleGoose or @K3VBOT or @IBtiM kickstarts a game, I have confidence in that person as a member of the community that they'll deliver what they promised. But I wouldn't necessarily back something by somebody I had never heard of, or by somebody who has failed to deliver in the past.

Kickstarter is just the platform.  The people are who you are trusting (or not trusting)

Except one of those guys you mentioned abuses the system by fully funding their game without Kickstarter, completing it and then using the platform to gauge interest for pre-orders. That's why you know the game will be delivered, it's done before it ever hits Kickstarter, which I don't agree with. That's not the purpose of the platform.

We need something in between this and Mystic Searches, something that could not otherwise get funded but also has realistic timelines and community support.

Thanks, got it off eBay for a good price from a new user after the original winning bid backed out. I was very happy with it.

Be careful. I've bid on things where the owner of the item got his friend to keep bidding until it got to my maximum bid and then his friend won the item. The seller then makes up a story that the winning bidder backed out and asked if I wanted it for the next highest amount, it's a classic scam.

What should technically happen is you should get the item for your highest amount that's below any of the winner's bids, not just his winning bid.

  3. This is how you make a proper post, thanks for this.

    1. The title is very descriptive, I know exactly what I will be reading if I click the title.

    2. There's a brief writeup as well as a screenshot, instead of just a link and nothing else.

    3. The source is included if I wish to read more.

I do have a question though, I'm curious if they simply found the digital file for the game or was a cartridge found?

  4. 1. Movie / Comic related games. I expect the values of Wolverine, X-Men, Spiderman and Disney games to go way up from crossover in collecting.

    2. Prototypes. I have no idea why prototypes to some of the most iconic games are still only worth $2000, there should be another zero on there. I personally think the development prototype to a popular game should be worth way more than a competition cartridge which has more than 100 copies known.

Mega Man 2, for so many reasons.

I completed a loose licensed set years ago, and one of the reasons I wanted to do it was to see if the system offered a better game than MM2.

A few hundred games and numerous hidden gems later...

I found the answer to be “no”!

I will get that prototype from you just like I got 3. Some day.

I've very-often wondered that of the many promo materials posted in these games from the NES/SNES era, if you took the time to find the customer support lines for these US companies and asked if they still had any NOS, if you'd find anything.  I mean. It's not likely, but not impossible.  Between the 10-15 big companies that are still around and the inventory they've had, there's likely a box somewhere with old stuff in it, and if the price books kept getting pushed into new inventory management systems, there's a small chance it wasn't chunked.

I've been a database manager for a couple of companies with inventory.  When there is shelf space and you don't need the extra room in the warehouse, you'd be surprised how long NOS can set around.  The Enix stuff is almost certainly gone since they likely merged with Square and consolidated any warehouses they had with the stuff.  Still, I bet there is some of this promotional material still out there, setting on company shelves just waiting for someone to ask for the right item, with the right SKU.

Last year I called the 8 remaining Blockbusters in Alaska and Texas to ask them if they had any vintage games left for sale. Half of them said they had a bunch of PlayStation 2 games but nothing older.
