Yeah, well, 99 of his brethren disagreed.

The amount to the deficit is a drop in the bucket. As Californicated said, if he was truly against adding to the deficit, he would have voted against that useless tax bill that added way more to the deficit that the fat cats pocketed rather than trickling it back to the people.

At least this will get into the hands of people who will spend it, keeping the economy going.

The reality is we're in for a rough fucking time, and libertarian ideals are not going to work. The government has to step in some time.

    It's that time.

That just proves even more that he's not treating politics like a team sport, which everyone who isn't a partisan hack should applaud.

It took me 5 minutes to read a few snippets of his original op-ed and know that, again, the choice he made was not as binary as indicated above. There were parts of it he didn't like and parts he did (like many/most bills I would imagine).

Rand isn't opposed to governmental involvement in the current crisis. He just wants to exercise the part he has to play in it with more nuance and, apparently, less panic.

The debt's going to be incurred one way or another. Either we add to the deficit or watch the economy take the mother of all shits with a 20% unemployment rate that'll haunt us for decades. .

With a system as complex as the economy and the situation at hand, a binary choice like the one presented is not an accurate reflection of reality and would only appeal to partisans, whom are the very ones intent on attacking him. He doesn't oppose the funding. He just wants to pay for it more responsibly.

Military ain't gonna help a buncha dead people.

People who defend the military budget are so blinded by the fear of being invaded that they don't realize you've BEEN invaded by a virus and it's actively killing your people.

You're afraid of the boogieman while an axe murderer is traipsing through your home.

How many countries have signed treaties/agreements/etc with the US so that they can focus their funds on domestic needs instead of their own military buildup?

  4. Yup, fully on board with ordering more takeout from favored local eateries. If the pizza place down the road closes the world will be bereft of a particularly good steak and cheese grinder. Tastes like the griddle has never been cleaned (in a good way), with grease that soaks into your bones and makes you feel all warm inside... and your left arm hurt.

Looks like I took the contrarian stance on this one guys.

    My only point is this.

Its not as easy as shut down business. There are huge ramifications. Some of these businesses wont open back up. You are actually thousands of small businesses. This is like walmarts dream scenario right now.

I think there's a fear on the part of legislators (apart from the fear of contracting and dying from it) that if ANY of them fail to implement the most extreme measures they will suffer politically in the aftermath.

i think you have to remove the bar of the cartridge tray on a frontloader in order for it to physically work.

Hmm... I wouldn't mind cracking my toaster open again. It's already got that "Blinking Light Win" installed.

Really just want to blow off some steam at night by playing through SMB3 in it's entirety. For some reason, that has been my go-to game since the whole Corona thing descended on us.

lol I don’t see that happening with Quest. Why so sensitive?

Using "You" so much in a rebuttal automatically raises a person's defenses, while addressing counterpoints to the ideas leaves more room for consideration.

Not sensitive, just trying to help the community achieve a more peaceable consensus by throwing out free unsolicited advice (since everyone can see the post and choose whether or not to implement it into their conversational toolkit).

You’re the one saying there’s going to be unrest and the economy will be destroyed if everybody stays home for a month or two. That’s blowing shit out of proportion. It’s not going to be fun or easy for some, sure, and that sucks. But the problems you predict will be 10x worse if we don’t respond strongly and broadly, now and for the foreseeable future.

I love how you say things like “its more complicated than that” but your pandemic answer is do all the normal things, just careful-er

You'd increase your persuasive capabilities 10 fold if you addressed the ideas instead of the person. And probably get a +1 modifier if you left out any hint of passive aggression.

This arbitrary future date thats in limbo and changes on a whim of when life might resume. People cant just stay in their homes. There is going to start to be unrest. And then you will have tanked the economy for nothing. Weve had pandemics. We havent shut things down. This is media driven hysteria. This reminds me so much of y2k its not even funny.

Tons of people are asymptimatic. Most are barely sick, and the more actual tests that get administered the lower the death rate. Its already extremely low. If you are in a risk group you should isolate while the rest of us develop herd immunity.

I believe this is the impetus behind the massive effort to close all non-essential businesses. There is almost no chance of the virus not spreading to pretty much every corner of the country, and the expectation is that herd immunity will take effect eventually. The main focus, to my knowledge, is to soften the blow to the hospitals from a full on rush to a manageable trickle.

EDIT: Dang it. Capt beat me to it 😛

  10. I'm a busy man. Husband and father of two (one a 9 month old). Full time job. Projects on the side. Every moment of free time is precious. So my question is this:

Is there something like the Game Genie that can act as a save state for NES games that have no password or continue options (I'm looking at you Blaster Master!)? Something that will allow me to play on my old NES deck, pick up where I left off when I have a second, and save my progress so I don't have to slog back through?

The fact that some can be asymptomatic is what is dangerous. Old people can be at home and still catch it from someone. Everyone needs to limit movement/shopping to essentials. That will keep the virus in check.

Sorry, but the law says essential services only. Gamestop trying to claim to be essential is laughable.

They say there's no atheists in foxholes. There's also no libertarians in pandemics.

Well, to be fair, there are... for a little while at least.
