  1. Regarding the Jungle Strike saying US on front and Puerto Rico on the back, I believe I noticed the same for Desert Strike. I think it's that the paper label itself was printed in the US but that it was assembled in Puerto Rico (though it's all semantics because PR is the US).

Knowing that early EA games (like John Madden Football) were Made in Taiwan, I'm confident that Taiwan are first prints and PR are second prints.

I'll look over all the pictures and other details when I'm at a computer (instead of phone).

Doing a little research on EA and according to Encyclopedia.com, EA established it's manufacturing facilities in PR in 1992. From some court docs: "EAPR (EA Puerto Rico was incorporated under Delaware law on May 15, 1992, as a subsidiary of EA, to manufacture video games and other software entertainment products.". As Desert Strike apparently came out in Feb 1992, the first print would have had to have been done in Taiwan.

  2. Now that I've started a new thread here on VGS, I've been taking a little bit of time to clean up the spreadsheet and finalize its conversion to its current format.  As I go through it, I'm making some mental notes on things I'll need to add/revise.

Does anyone have a copy of Coach K Basketball with inserts? My spreadsheet is blank for that title and I'm not immediately seeing anything among eBay listings.

  3. Looking at the two Desert Strikes a little more, it looks like one is assembled in Taiwan and then the other in Puerto Rico.

The earliest EA games were all Taiwan, so I would consider the Taiwan release the first release and the Puerto Rico one the second release.

And I believe it's the thick case one that's the Taiwan one, right? Which all kind of makes sense for the first release, then reduce plastic to cut costs for the second release.

(As an aside, I think the thin case EA games are the 1st release for those respective games, but I realize that would go partially against my above plastic comment)

  4. In the spreadsheet, I aim to track all non-one off print variants, so yes, I'll definitely add Desert Strike.

Thoughts on which is the 1st print? Do you think they started with less copyright text and added more? Or that they started with a lot and then cut it down? I'll check eBay listings later to try and find full CIBs of each. Maybe one will be marked Rev A.

I'll add the sticker variants as well, at least for now. Stickers appear to be on the box (so under the seal) but it would be good to see separate sealed copies both with and without seal (my mind is foggy). Again with these, thoughts on which is 1st print? I would suppose no sticker and then they added a sticker?

I would like to add, that any game with Namco engraving on back of cart will also say Namco on the inside of box near tray, others will have standard Sega logo if back of cart says Sega.  It's something I noticed only because I had a few Namco cover art inserts and needed to harvest proper boxes to appease my OCD.  I'm sure you covered this above but I just glanced at the thread briefly while at work here...will dive deeper later.

Good information. In my guide I had it listed that only Phelios and Burning Force had Sega cases instead of Namco, but sometime I should check the full list against that criteria and see if it all lines up.

Thanks for bringing this one over @RoyalT

  6. I find it easiest to do a Google search for Nintendoage (or Segaage) and then the approximation of the thread title.  Usually I can pull up the links to the (broken) threads - and even if they're broken, I at least know the exact name of the thread.

Then using that exact thread name, searching GoCollect using quotes has been fine.

I enjoy hunting for variants and have been actively chasing Canadian variant Genesis games.   There was a great resource on the old segaage site, hoping we can transfer that info here.

Did any of the few active segaage users make it over here?  I was royalt on the old sites as well.

Hey bud, I made it over! If you're able to port my Canadian Genesis thread over here that would be fantastic!  All the images there link to imgur so there shouldn't be any risk of the images dying.

I'm also making sure that my spreadsheet is up to date with each of the 60 Canadian games discovered so far.

  8. In my spreadsheet, I had at one point tried to integrate this kind of information by adding an asterisk "*" next to a game title that had a Strategy Guide, at one point intended to mirror a similar list like yours on a forum.  My spreadsheet had links to a couple pictures, so I've added below the pictures that I had.

Here are some on my list that you don't have:

Batman Forever - Gamepro Official Player's Guide for Super Nintendo Genesis Game Boy and Game Gear
    Battletech
Bubsy I & II - Bradygames Accolade Official Guide for Bubsy I & II (Winning Hints for Super NES and Sega Genesis)
Crusader of Centy - Atlas Software Hint Book
Pocahontas - BradyGames Official Game Guide
Road Rash 3 - Infotainment Official Players Guide

  9. Here's one last sealed game I had opened up but not yet shared on SegaAge.  The spreadsheet is now updated with this information of a verified sealed copy of Fantastic Dizzy.  In addition, since I'd already hosted the images on Imgur, each insert in the spreadsheet has a hyperlink to an image of the insert.

  10. Over at SegaAge I ran a thread focused on confirming as much information as possible on Sega Genesis games and the contents of CIB games.  A lot of it was pulled from my own collection and from years of watching eBay auctions.  Over time, I've pulled in lots of great info from other members and the project has continued to evolve and improve:

    Here is the spreadsheet:
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IKheEp9_Ww1YFwj_1MvMF_1Vw8Ed6nksmDy9-BfA9nQ/edit?usp=sharing

In its current form, there is still a lot of data I'm transitioning over to the new format, which will allow for greater use of filtering.  For example, at a minimum you'd be able to sort release by Canadian to see all Canadian releases (or Sega Classics, or Mega Hit, or VG Classics).  For any games that originally came packaged with no inserts, the plan is to write "No inserts" in the Insert 1 column (column I), which would also allow for filtering on that criteria.  Posters and reg cards have their own columns.

Columns O, P, and Q are eventually intended to allow for more thorough input on data to account for games with lots of print runs.  Column R "Box Sort" would let you sort by games that are Clamshell Only, Cardboard Only, or Both.  But that will take a long time for me to go back through and fill out.

Anyway, I wanted to get the link shared over here.  I'm always soliciting new information and if you open up a game from sealed, please share as well!

  11. Hey guys, glad to see those threads/guides recycled here!  And good that they're still viewable on Internet Archive.

Here is the link to my spreadsheet, which I am am still updating from time to time (mostly, slowly converting to the old format to the one I'm currently using):

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IKheEp9_Ww1YFwj_1MvMF_1Vw8Ed6nksmDy9-BfA9nQ/edit#gid=0

I do plan on creating a new thread here on VGS to accept additional input on variants or other inserts I might be missing.  The spreadsheet captures sealed games that have been verified, variants, print runs, etc.  I haven't had time to be thorough, but the plan was to fill in all of the data to allow things to be sorted by "1st print" or "cardboard only", things like that.

  12. After many sales here on NA/SA and few successful rounds of eBay auctions, here are my remaining Genesis games for sale.  All of these games are complete in box and all games in clamshell cases should have the hangtab.  I'll gladly provide pictures for any game and many will have inserts, which I'll list next to each game.

    Battletoads (cardboard) - $90
    Battletoads (clamshell) - $40
Battletoads Double Dragon (clamshell) - $30
Beyond Oasis w/ Sega Visions reg card - $95
Double Dragon V (100% CIB with tattoo, reg card, and poster) - $100
John Madden Football Championship Edition - $85 (hard to find Mail Order version - ie non-Rental exclusive)
Shining Force II (100% CIB with Sega Visions reg card) - $90
Sonic & Knuckles (rare, minor variant w/ Sega Visions reg card) - $50

Super Fighter Team Games (all for offer)

Beggar Prince (1st run clamshell) - for offer
Beggar Prince (3rd print run clamshell) - for offer
Cascade (Super Fighter Team game (cardboard), unplayed)
Legend of Wukong (clamshell, 1st print) - for offer
Magic Girl (Super Fighter Team game (cardboard), unplayed) - for offer
Star Odyssey (clamshell, 1st print) - for offer

Pier Solar (Watermelon, 1st edition US release) - for offer

All packages will be weighed and shipping price will be calculated based on weight and distance.  All packages will likely be sent USPS Priority mail, unless you're just purchasing one game.

  13. So among those, Magic Girl is the only one that I recognize as a title SFT had previously released (though certainly they must have owned the rights to several other games that they hadn't yet done anything with).  So for Genesis titles that leaves the following unaccounted for:

    - Beggar Prince
    - Cascade
    - Legend of Wukong
    - Star Odyssey
    - Vixen 357 (never released/now scrapped)

I saw on Sega-16 that you'd reached out to Brandon about Vixen 357, and I imagine these other titles for which SFT is best-known.  Good luck!
