  1. I have a black Menace Beach cartridge, if you're interested in such?

(your list doesn't specify whether your looking for cartridges or boxed games)

I have no idea what the going rate - Found on sold on eBay, which sold for ~$188 + shipping.

So, maybe, $165 with the shipping costs included? Or feel free to make a fair counter-offer if I'm way off

  2. Assuming we're not talking about the HKGC versions - I know (believe I remember) one cart sold back in 2009 for around 800 euros. but that info is probably of little use to you.

I heard as a rumor (read in some Facebook thread somewhere) that one sold for 3000 euro some years ago (cart only), but don't know how valid it is. Honestly seems unbelievable.

So the above info is all smoke and mirrors and hearsay - But:

If you're looking to do a NES fullset, consider swapping the Hong Kong Version of Mah Jong with the Famicom Box version. The Famicom Box version is inside a gorgeous black NES cartridge AND it's a 72 pin game. Essentially every bit as much a NES game as the Hong Kong version at a fraction of the price!

If you want it to be more uniform in looks with the other NES carts, go with the Famicom Station variant, which is a gray cart.

The black cart pictured is one I used to own, the gray cart is one I pulled off of eBay right now. The board is one of the boards for the Famicombox cartridges I had, don't know if it's the one for Mah Jong or nor, but they all looked kinda liked that, were 72 pin and played fine on a NES with the region lockout disabled. Glitched a bit in 50hz (PAL), played flawlessly in 60 hz. (NTSC)

Believe it or not, picking up a simple Pinball Game & Watch got me out of my collecting funk I was in. I was confused as to what I wanted to pursue/if I still wanted to and I found one, bought it, played it, and my passion for old games, hardware, and history of the industry sparked back up.

    That's a pretty cool story 🙂

You still have that Pinball, and have you collected more G&W's since then? I'd love some pictures of your collection, if you have

  4. @B.A. No date on it. Based on the fact, that this sign was used before the Gameboy, its older than 1989. Looking at how Mario's portrayed, I don't know what's the earliest point he was portrayed like this, I'd guess it was for the 1986 Mario Game & Watch Crystal Screen release. Earlier stuff than that, the art is normally either pixel or with a more Jumpman look feel. (Correct me if I'm wrong, any earlier games where he looks like this?)

So my best guess so far is between 1986 and 1989

  7. For me, the level I've spent most time on was Battletoads' Clinger-Winger.

Not that the level in itself is so impossibly difficult, but shortly after the NES Classic (NES-Mini) came to market, it was a great opportunity to bring a NES with me to work (I worked on a ship at that point, and the rotation was 6 weeks onboard / 6 weeks home). Loved the opportunity the NES classic brought, with compact size, lightweight, USB power and connection to modern TV's. Only problem was, that the screen in my cabin was some dated and cheap PC monitor, and of course, that Battletoads was emulated, so it was nearly impossible to time the corners correctly to get through that level. I played for hours and hours for days and days and had to learn to time the corners the correct way based on the lag. At the end I'm sure I could've done the majority of the level blindfolded considering how many hours I spent on it total. Horrible experience, but also rewarding.

Got back home, put a proper cart in my NES on a proper CRT and all of the suddenly it felt like a completely different game.

So, yeah, since then, I've joined the choir of people preaching that emulating is bad

  8. Thanks guys for doing this - I never posted a lot on the other site, but I did spend a LOT of time reading through posts and trawling the forum for information and have used it frequently as a source for information

Suggestion: Tags added to specifically interesting / informative posts

This idea here comes from yesterday, where I had to search the old site for information regarding the European version of Boxxle 2 for the Gameboy. Whilst a normal search function did yield some results, I was wondering if it would be smart to have the ability for users to add a tag to a specific post that had quality information on a specific game, a variant, a system or so on.

Let's say someone mentions in a post that "The European version of Contra is actually called Probotector, and the sprites have been changed to robots and there is no blood", this post could be tagged with for example "Contra" "Probotector" and "Game version differences", so if I wanted to study up on Contra, I could select the "Contra" tag and be shown the most informative posts on the subject. (This way, I wouldn't have to get shown all the other posts in my search, where people mention contra being hard, other people pointing out that it isn't that hard, people yelling about how it's overrated whilst other still pointing out that it's great, and not forgetting the handful of people reminiscing about how the price of Contra used to be cheaper 15 years ago than it is now - I'm sure you get the point)

Another example could be in a post "Mr. Gimmick actually only had a release of 5000 NES cartridges" with the tag of "Gimmick", so if I wanted to study up on Gimmick / Mr. Gimmick the specific post mentioning this would be in the posts shown to me.

Kinda like an indexing system where one wouldn't have to look through hundreds of general discussion posts, and then a place somewhere where one could browse through the available tags making somewhat of an encyclopedia feel.
