I'm currently wokring on Track & Field II and have at least made it to the 4th day out of 8. Unfortunately, I'm stuck right now at the horizontal bars and haven't yet figured out how to score highly on this game. Plus, this type of game is bad for your fingers. So I'll need to take a break for a few days every now and then. Not sure if I'm good enough to actually beat the whole game, but I'll keep trying.

I’m pretty sure there’s something you can do to remain on the bar and build your score I don’t remember exactly but there’s a way where you can just keep performing tricks without ending the run when you’re supposed to

  2. Ok I beat silkworm, I played as the jeep, it’s interesting the game says you have two continues and you do unless you reach the final boss then you only have your one attempt.  So if you reach the 8th level on your last life you’re better off dying and using a continue to start the level fresh with 3 lives and the chance to get extra lives at 50k and 200k since your score resets on the continue.  You can point rack on screen of the fake final boss to reach those numbers, you also get an extra life at 500k but you’d probably have to point rack for 30 minutes to get that high. Anyway point is with three or four lives you actually stand a chance on the final boss which is really the only difficult part of the game.

I finally got a Vaus controller that works so I am going to try and get Arkanoid done within the year.

I am not going to guarantee anything because I know this game’s reputation, but I’m going to give it a shot.

if anyone who’s taken this down before has any strategies or words of wisdom it would be much appreciated. I’m going to make liberal use of the level skip and pause buffering, but with the caveat that I have to beat a level first in order to skip it. So far I’m through 1-4.

This seems like it’s going to be absolute hell.

Yea I’d work on the first 15 until you’re able to beat them without doing the level skip just for the practice and I can’t fully remember but I think you’re skipping levels one at a time so if it’s an easy one I’m pretty sure you can play it trying to get a extra life and then say the next board is hard you can skip through it. Also it’s very random with the drops so don’t get discouraged if it seems like you’ve regressed you’re probably just not getting very lucky with the extra lives and exit capsules eventually everything will fall into place on one run.  I’m not sure about the pausing I know people have mentioned it before for certain games to me it seems like a lot of trouble for a slight edge but maybe i don’t fully understand it

7 days to get 7 games if we want to break the record for fastest to 650. Who's working on something that could be done in that time? Do we think we have any chance?

My list is looking pretty slim, I'm open to hearing about any game on the list that's not too tough or crazy long but I think that pretty much eliminates everything still left haha.

I'm considering trying Athena (long and difficult) or Gauntlet (difficult as hell) again, or possibly seeing if I can get the pitching trick to work in Bases Loaded, though I could also barely score a hit in the batting of that game, so I'm not likely to be winning any games there any time soon.

Wouldn't count on much in the way of completions from me, but I'll give those a shot throughout this week and see what I can come up with. I'll be out of town this upcoming weekend to see the solar eclipse, but will probably bring some kind of NES with me to attempt some games in my down time.

I put silkworm in Friday I made it to the final boss so I’d say I’d probably be able finish this week

Bad Street Brawler is done. I actually enjoy this game even though the last level can be a pain in the ass. Unfortunately you don't get much time to take a picture of the victory screen and I couldn't get my tablet ready in time.

That’s funny you must’ve read my mind cause when you posted the other day I meant to comment that you should just do bad street brawler I remember you mastering it after the weekly a few years ago

Can anyone help me with Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom? I'm on wave 9 and want to cross the lava for which you need to destroy some of these weird heads popping out of the lava so that they build a bridge. However, there aré never enough of them to form a bridge to the other side. I've been waiting for them until the timer runs out, I've restarted the wave like a dozen times and even restarted the whole game, but I always have the same problem. Is there some kind of trick to this? Or did I somehow softlock myself, because I used a warp or did something wrong during this wave? The walkthroughs on Gamefaqs don't say anything about this either, only that you should bring a lot of weapons with you by rescuing lots of children. But I'm still trapped and don't know what to do.

Some paths just don’t work out.  I usually observe for a bit seeing if enough monsters are popping up before deciding which route to go.

Does anyone know how to make good NES maps?  I wanted to make some of "The Last Starfighter" but it seems to be a bit tricky, unless I just have to savestate-screenshot then stitch together the photos.  Maybe someone can make them?

I played a bit with infinite lives, and with that, I could replay the levels over and over again and write out a 'path' for the level that will give a high degree of success.  Then eventually by replaying the game you could beat it.

I thought there was maps for it online? The worst part is the later levels where you have to like snake your way through the barriers cause you either don’t turn around fast enough and smash into the barrier or you do turn around and immediately there’s ships there that blow you up

I tried my hands at Time Lord, but I can't beat the boss in the wild west level. Somehow this dude can take an insane amount of bullet and just won't die. I even lost my patience and tried with save states, but even after getting the in-game timer to July this dude just doesn't die. Does he maybe regenerate health and you need to shoot as fast as if you had a turbo controller?

There’s is definitely something off about it, you must shoot fast and it has to be almost nonstop but if I remember correctly sometimes he’d go down relatively quickly and if not i’d just reset

On the latter paragraph, I'll also tag @Tablew/chairs as someone I think has beaten at least the entire set of licensed North American NES games. But there are many others like myself who have done at least 1/3 to 1/2 of the library, and it's not like we have the same blind spots.

That’s right and I didn’t do the unlicensed games because they don’t count! (joking)  Although I started at least a year before I joined NA i did use the conditions here as my rules the only questionable thing I’d say I did was the helicopter glitch in the fourth stage of Ikari warriors.  So yes I don’t think using continues is fair for what we’re trying to do here, in fact I don’t like that emulating is allowed but that’s because I spent just as long collecting the carts as I did beating them.  Anyway with this many games there’s gunna be some gray areas but I think scary has done a fabulous job considering there has to be a line drawn somewhere.
