I haven't started collecting for Game Gear yet so I have nothing to try on my adapter, but glad it's looking so clean! How does the emulation feel?

Doesn't feel like emulation at all to me, feels just like it should, for better and worse 😛 I only tried Mega Man and Sonic Triple Trouble so far though. While the GG is not among my favorites I have always wanted an accurate way to play them on my setup, most of my portables have a means in doing so (PSP, Vita, GB-GBA, etc) but the GG always seemed weirdly absent from having a proper way to play original carts. While I have a very extensive GG collection I do also own an Everdrive that also works on this, very neat. I believe that outside of 3 games I can't track down i'm basically done with what I want for the system, even got a mcwill install along with a refurb on a original unit.

  3. Yep that's a good way to go too, I've seen people do a lot of creative setups with it. The added depth is nice because it makes them very sturdy, you don't have to mount them all to walls and can position them in the middle of areas, etc without risk of them falling. They are surprisingly strong for particle board as well.

What shelves are those? They seem to have the absolute perfect depth for most games.

I don't want to ever see a video game on a Billy shelf again XD

EDIT: LOL this question was already answered, and they are in fact Billy >_> I guess you just pulled all the games forward to line up with the edge of the shelf?

Yep. I tend to use old busted jewel cases/dvd cases, box protectors, or other various junk to keep a backing in place. I do also intend it as a future expansion thing if I ever need more space. Figured i'd put the less desirable stuff in the back since they are basically perfectly space for double layering almost any game. One nice option if you plan that far ahead, if the shelving ends up not against a wall you can not put the backing in and just use it as a double sided cabinet, my fiancee did this with books she has in her own area and once she painted the bare area it looked nice.

  5. Figured i'd throw this back up, i'm actually working towards modifying parts of it, mostly the figure area as i'm finding a lot of things aren't fitting anywhere. Always find I'm a foot short no matter what kind of measurement i'm doing 😛

I’m sorry if this has been discussed but does anyone know anything about the Everspace Switch release? I’ve only seen it at Best Buy, but I didn’t think the Switch release was a Limited Run release?

I don't think LRG ever did a Switch version of it (they did one for PS4 though). I bought this from Best Buy myself and it has a label from Fun Box Media on it, never heard of them before.

  7. Would be a good idea, haven't looked it over in awhile but I imagine it's fallen off a bit by now for the established series.. I still am hunting down X-men games despite it not mattering right now lol. Hard to break a goal when you get far. I'm not sure if anything will change with that list but, I kinda hope whoever owns the gocollect site wouldn't have the ability to access it if they ever wanted to, don't want to share any future work i'd do with them even if it's small 😛

  8. Something I hope to do in the coming weeks or months is take photos of sets I have finished, and I wanted to make a topic to maybe help organize them over time. I typically don't do full sets unless they are relatively small so most of my sets are just my personal stopping points. Those points are usually determined between a matter of personal taste and in some instances, excessive cost being too prohibitive to bother. I'll add more over time I'm sure, some of the ones I took before are of course out of date due to newer releases so it'll take time to redo stuff. While others will likely want to post their own topics for their sets, you may also feel free to throw some out here if you like, always fun to see and can be a learning experience too.

Thanks!  When I finally make the move from apartment to house sometime next year, I might have to go that route.  Right now I'm rolling with about 15 Atlantic Oskar 1080s and four walls worth of the Rubbermaid track shelving.  I had previously discounted the Billy's as an option because of their extra depth, but man that's a clean look (and I didn't realize you could order extra shelves so easily).

Out of curiosity, do you to anything behind the games to keep them all perfectly front-aligned like that?  That's an issue I have with my Rubbermaid track shelves - those are 8 or 9 inches deep, so some games always manage to get pushed in a bit and end up looking misaligned and disorderly.

I do have spacers I use to keep them flush yeah. I use anything from box protectors, thin cardboard peices, broken jewel cases, etc. In the early stages when I had much less space and less cabinets I would just double layer the games by putting less desired stuff behind them. They can fit 2 DVD size cases in a single file if needed. I also put stuff like amiibo boxes or other less fun stuff to display there so it acts as storage without having to throw stuff away 😛

I see lots of Club Nintendo stuff! Very nice

I didn't get in at the earliest days but I went in hard when I got around to it. I was devastated when they stopped doing the service (the current system is essentially pointless to me)

Good lord. I think I commented on NA (Rest it's soul) that your setup is one of the nicest I've ever seen.

Everything's so neatly organised! What's your secret!? 😆

Well I'm somewhat handy (not overly so but a bit), and my fiancee is crafty, so I guess with our powers combined it works out as such. I usually come up with the ideas or concepts and do the drilling/hanging/etc stuff, but she's the measuring crafty one. I'm also adept with hiding wires at this point 😛

This is fantastic! You should offer a consulting service on how to setup a game room 🙂

I'd have to add a grading system service to inflate the overall value of your room for good measure 😛

How much do Billy book cases go for?

I believe 70 to 80 per case depending on the color. The handy thing is, while they do charge for shipping the shipping rate doesn't change the more you buy. If you measure the area you need you can get one shipped or 30 shipped and it will cost the same, saving a lot of work imo. It's particle board but is by far the strongest particle board I've ever seen. Doesn't bow even a tiny bit with a row of heavy books on it (I collect gaming art books too 😛 )

Does advertising offer a substantial amount? For a little site like this. Is it like pennies per thousands of impressions and slightly more for clickthroughs.

My understanding is that it would be pretty minimal with the userbase the site has now, but there are ways to try and grow the community while trying to keep it in line with the spirit you want to achieve. The more work and structure that is put into the site the more kinds of users of various passions you can adopt. I loved Nintendoage but it was certainly extremely centered on Nintendo (duh) and more specifically NES stuff. Hopefully this place can learn to navigate the collector space broadly by embracing all sides of game collecting while retaining the detail orientation and knowledge level that made NA special in the first place.

If my experience with sites over decades has taught me anything, it's best to put a good foot forward feature and content wise before going overly public with your site if the desire is to attract people, but you also want to avoid having flood gates open to a bunch of people who won't ultimately fit in or be welcome either. The death of NA is sad but if the right people gather up this new site could become something really special over time. If I was more talented I'd try to contribute more but most of what I do deals in setups and knowledge of gaming as a whole rather than the more meticulous details like variants and such.

  13. It would certainly be nice to have some kind of written rule that creators content is theirs and cannot be transferred to another business for their shitty purposes. I think right now a lot of people would be wary about any contribution now that they got to see their efforts get nuked without proper warning. I do hope VGS can come up with a long term plan to tastefully grow their userbase and maybe find a way to collect moderate and noninvasive ad revenue so that the model can be profitable enough to keep going as it would be without needing to ever sell it off. While I didn't know the owner of NA in particular, it seems tasteless to cash out with a paycheck that rode on the back of tons of other peoples work (who likely didn't see a dime) only to then allow the site to be destroyed just because he didn't feel like doing it anymore. A community driven site should have some community input on its fate even if it isn't owned in any part by the contributors.

An amazing collection paired with an amazing setup.  Congrats on an exceptional collection and soooooo much CIB, all of it looking like it's in quality condition too.

How long have you been collecting?

    EDIT

Better question, who were you on NA?  I recognize your avatar but I can't place it with the name.

I believe every game that can have a box and manual does have one aside a couple exceptions (I think 2 or 3 games are missing manuals) and I do my best to keep the condition pretty good, some of them look brand new and others might be a 7/10 kind of condition depending, but I always try to get the best price for condition I can. I've been collecting around 10 years now, I began by buying a SNES with a complete Kirby Superstar and that just put this urge to start buying stuff. I started really slow just going to local spots and hitting eBay here and there but eventually I went on some pretty big spending sprees to bolster where it is.

As another user kindly pointed out my username was the same on NA and I did indeed have a sizeable amount of those badges 😞 It was always fun to see them post a new series and to find what holes I had in my sets.

Amazingly well-done!  Absolutely love the organization on everything.   What shelving units are you using?   The height on them looks excellent.

They are called Billy book cases from Ikea, which is a pretty popular sort of shelf for collectors. I like them because they are both inexpensive but also very sturdy for the price, you can also buy additional shelves for each case and they have slimmer versions to help fill in unusual gaps. They even sell corner hardware there to help solidify angled shelves into straight ones though I did not need to use them in my house here 😛
