  1. I did an old tradition today and went around locals to pick up a bunch of stuff 'near the tail end' of consoles lives, overall I spent more than I hoped to, but not a bad result. Will be a nightmare to log and put away, but that's how it be sometimes.
  2. So I recently redid a lot of my lightgun setup, but it motivated me to buy some remaining light guns I didn't have (still waiting on them), but also to rig up a way to display/access them. This took me all day today between finding an adequate spot for it and trying to space it all out, I suspect more hours will be dumped into it before I think it's good enough, but I figured I'd post an early shot. There are guns on the other side, but mostly just redundant ones you can already see here. Edit: Since I altered the rack a bit today I updated the picture, I still have stuff to add to the back, but eBay will have me waiting there.
  3. I'm not a PC collector, but because I'm a huge fan of Mega Man I did deviate and bought the set for that, so I figured I could contribute a tad?
  4. Hey all, one thing I've taken a liking to while working on my game area over years, is that I like to be able to look back and see where it was, versus what it is. Right now my whole area is a bit messy since I've been half ass adding a bunch of modifications, but I am hoping to do a nice updated tour sometime this year when certain things come in. With that said, I was browsing memory lane a bit and decided it might be fun to have people share various timeframes of their collections, and it can be any part of it really. Where did your set start versus ended? Have you moved and had to redo your area? Trimmed down? Taken on new interest? Whatever it may be, I think it could be cool to see what you all may have to share over many years, even if it's something as small as getting a new TV, everything matters on the journey. Since my room is pretty big, I figured I would cover one part of it, and maybe try to do other stuff over time as I collect photos into one spot. I'll start with my favorite one though since the work was among the more custom work I've done by myself. I consider it kind of the crown jewel of the room as far as 'display' goes, but I figured a strong start might draw some people to wanna post their stuff too. What I'm going to display below is kind of a timeline of where I first started with an area, and where it more or less is now. Some changes have been made since, but I need to rework the wiring and orientations a bit to accomodate new stuff, so I can't go the whole way just yet. If you want to scroll the entire gallery for this display, you can check it here https://photos.app.goo.gl/E7pqCzsRbkayev4g8 I feel a lot can be learned over the decisions made in this sort of thing over time, lots of stories, memories, or questions can be posed in such things. I figure the potential may exist for some fun discussion or just showing off. The Displays!
  5. Unfortunately my setup pictures are kind of a mess since they take place over many different years. I haven't committed to redoing the whole room in one shot since it's been ever changing, but I think in a few months I'm expecting my favorite character to finally get a figure delivered. If so I think that will motivate me to tighten everything up and get it sparkly again, so I'm hoping to do a nice up to date room tour in the first half of the year since from that point the modifications will be much more subtle. I do enjoy looking at the different years for the setup though, a lot of evolution over the course of a decade, especially since I moved once. Maybe one day I can make an elaborate historical setup post in the show off subforum Also those cabinets are open face as it were, so the damage would be to the figures rather than glass, I have wanted to consider some kind of strong acrylic shielding for them, but unfortunately many of the figures stick out a bit from the displays, so I'm not entirely sure how to approach that. Otherwise I have considered removing the pool table in favor of more display area, but again, always a WIP.
  6. You're limited to using short sticks, but to be fair it kind of always was that way since right behind those cabinets were windows. This just came with the house and I worked around it, but we do have people play from time to time. Not drunk people, and not kids, but people who understand not to be stupid
  7. I haven't tallied it up in awhile, or taken new pictures in awhile, but I planned to solidify everything this year sometime, so old pics and semi current data will have to do Intellivision: 87 Colecovision: 73 Atari 2600: 181 Atari 5200: 58 Atari Lynx: 45 Atari 7800: 42 Atari XEGS: 32 Jaguar: 46 Jaguar CD: 14 (Full set) NES: 359 GB: 324 SNES: 323 VB: 14 (Full set) N64: 160 GBC: 243 GBA: 496 GCN: 146 DS: 766 Wii: 487 3DS: 307 (4203) Wii U: 119 Switch : 800 (Estimate, probably more) Sega Master System: 83 Sega Genesis: 361 Game Gear: 173 Sega CD: 89 Sega Pico: 20 (Full set) 32X: 26 Saturn: 154 Dreamcast: 164 Philips Cdi: 24 NGPC: 32 (Full set) N-Gage: 54 (Full set) Game.com: 21 (Full set) Turbografx/CD/Super CD: 109 3D0: 94 PS1: 540 PS2: 572 PSP: 325 PS3: 276 Vita: 302 PS4: 600 (Estimate) PS5: 50 (Estimate) Xbox: 446 360: 606 Xbox One: 175 (Estimate) Series X: 10 PC: 15 Total: 10443 (estimate, but well over 10,000)
  8. SMO still sells millions yearly, they won't pull it until it stops. You could find Mario DS after the 3ds hit for years. Nintendo owns the retail space at this point, they won't nix games that can keep selling. We have to assume the Switch 2 also won't have dozens of titles at launch.
  9. Yeah this isn't gonna be a thing, especially for stuff like SMO which was listed. This isn't the first time this happened either, things sell out during the holiday and they will restock whatever they feel is needed. It also could be in an effort to introduce a players choice line or something, but unless the Switch 2 isn't BC there is no reason to discontinue games if they are still selling, the 3DS had a solid couple years after Switch.
  10. I don't see how comparing life experience with... requiring someone to do the thing before being able to have a viable opinion is the same thing. You can judge games without making them, you can judge sports without playing them, etc. That's a pretty ridiculous comparison. If you think children on average hold opinions with true experience that's fine, but the bulk of the world disagrees. It's why they try to restrict minors from certain decision making, they aren't exactly well versed in anything to be making great judgements. It's why getting married young is usually catastrophic, and it's why trusting a kid who grows up playing games that are effectively slot machines with viagra ads on mobile phones, is generally not a good idea. Of course exceptions apply, but I would imagine 95 percent of people alive would look back on their prior taste and say they have evolved significantly merely through experience, and this honestly likely keeps going forever, just you start to likely plateau when you hit your 30s or so. My young nephew into his teens refused to play any games without guns because he was afraid of being made fun of, he's in his 20s now and is much more comfortable just doing whatever, which is another variable. While it's true people do lose parts of themselves as they age, they often times are also permitted to become the person they may have hid as a child growing up due to fear of being outcast. Anyone who grew up during the Pokemon craze knows exactly what that means, and as an adult, you usually just don't care anymore and let yourself decide.. Well I'd like to think so anyways, some never gain individuality, but that's another matter. It's perfectly fine to listen to the opinions of young people and even respect the perspective, but if you're not allowed to use your age and wisdom as part of the criteria for experience than there really is no such thing as growth. As someone who only casually listens to music or does not partake in sports, I absolutely consider my perspective on those subjects limited and would not think otherwise if other people are enthusiast on those matters, and that includes younger folk too. I have a coworker who is half my age and he knows everything about shoes in my eyes, where as I know nothing, and that's fine too. Future him though, will likely know far more than he does now if he retains his interest, and that's all I meant.
  11. I don't buy into this at all actually. As an individual I possess the ability to recognize qualities in games even if I dislike them. I don't like sim racers, sports titles, I'm not really into GTA, Assassins Creed, etc, but this is not my judgement to them as being bad games. I also don't prescribe to the idea that the opinions of young children hold real merit to actual quality, as they are literally defined by their low standards in marketing. A game like say, Style Savvy may be a great game that is designed for girls, there may exist a great Barbie game just as there do exist good Spongebob games.. Age however usually brings wisdom, almost all adults can likely define things they loved as children, but realize are not good as adults, even if they carry a special nostalgia for them. My 6 year old niece may not be thrilled by the standard in which I collected as a now nearly 40 year old man, but I don't hold her taste as equally respectable judgement because she has at least another decade or more to go before her sense of taste and understanding of things is likely to be developed. It's why we don't really care about what kids who would still eat mud think about culinary arts, they just aren't experienced enough to make well thought out decisions. They need a lot more growing before they become respected perspectives, and that applies to nearly all people. My opinions on game quality versus my game preferences exist in separate silos, I think Forza is an incredibly impressive series, it just doesn't suit my interest just as people who dislike fantasy games may love Madden. I can still look at Madden and tell its a generally competent game made with some level of care. If you like those and collect them I never feel your collection is in turn inferior, just different taste. Imagine Babiez on the other hand, is designed by people who know the threshold of experience of the expected demographic is very low, and thus the effort is a low bar at best. I do not believe I have ever encountered an adult who would say any of them are "actually pretty good!". Where as something like Cooking Mama may look like a trash game, but it's actually pretty fun and retains an adult fanbase because it's competently made. Also if ever you tell me, I really, really love the Imagine Babiez series, I'd at least hear you out with an open mind, but I would certainly have reservations personally. There is a reason most adults grow out of watching shows like Sesame Street though, even if they are great kid shows, they don't hold up to adult scrutiny and they shouldn't have to. Unless I have a personal nostalgia for it in that case, I see no reason to keep it around personally. If you do, that's cool too.
  12. It's all perspective, imagine collecting against say, a buffet. If you have a choice between 2 buffets, one of which has nothing but great food, and the other which includes all the great food but also dog shit and dead mice laced around said buffet, you most likely would stick with the one you know only has good selections. Even if you don't eat every selection, you'd want to know every selection has potential to be great each time. Even if the good options exist to select, not everyone is going to want bad options thrown around. Collecting of course is a bit more nuanced, maybe you find the history of some games interesting, etc. That's not that likely if you're going for a full set, at that point you're checking boxes and at best expressing intense love towards a specific platform, which is fine too, but it's easy to see why people often avoid it, especially people who elect to want games they would play. You can of course draw another comparison such as history, wanting to include the good, the bad and the ugly to paint the full picture, but I think the major point will always boil down to why you collect, people like myself don't collect sealed games for a reason, we want the potential to interface with it to exist, and perhaps to be fun.
  13. I have a bit over 10,000, and of course I'll never get to play through them all, but as a selection of games you can rest assured most of them are good to great games. When looking through my shelves I'm not greeted with Imagine Babies and what have you by the thousands, and that matters too.
  14. Imagine going for a full DS or Wii set. As great as they both are, they are filled to the brim with horrible trash as well, you have to dig through tons of crap to find the real stuff, even if both have great libraries the ratios are just too aggressive.
  15. I would say if you can watch a video and not be pretty sure it's not for you, then you haven't really defined your taste for yourself that much. Obviously you can't tell how a game feels without playing it, but you can usually knock out games just based on other qualities. Like I know games like Captain America on the GB aren't going to be good by just watching it, but I'll still often try just in case. For the other uncertain ones, that's what emulators work for I remember years ago just sitting down with an everdrive for the GBA and loading it up with a bunch of 'maybe' games and playing a game of collector survivor with it. I would say maybe 1/3 of them ended up being bought, but the rest, eh. This works against me sometimes too, when it comes to extremely expensive games I am actually hoping they will be garbage, so when I try them and determine I actually enjoy them I start getting upset at what's about to happen to my savings. That being said, I suppose my range of knowledge is most robust when it comes to quality releases, including many obscure games, which is why I got in on a ton of great games when they were cheap well before they blew up in value, but when it comes to other areas, other people grossly outstrip my knowledge base, we all just do it a bit differently. Even if my sets are mostly curated, I still end up between 1/3 to 1/2 of a systems library often times since I do have very broad taste as well, the only really good games I tend to ignore would be sports games simply because I don't care about them.
  16. I mean, sure, but this is also not how most people experience a medium, like having to go buy Spy Kids because you enjoyed The Matrix on DVD doesn't really make a lot of sense. In the case of collecting, most people collect based on personal experience or interest first and foremost. As such the 'story' of the console is usually not littered with bad religious games, Barbie games, and various other bad games. These games largely sold badly because no one cared, and weren't even cliffnotes in the broad scheme of things at the time. When looking at a shelf of games, it can mean many things, and the intent of the collector matters to the context of the set. A fullset can either be cool because you just adore that system and wanted it all, or it can express you have no focus or specific taste to identify against what you buy. Since I like curated sets, I often times get people looking and going, but you don't have THIS? That is correct, I don't because I don't want it, and it is meant to represent my own taste. One of my favorite elements of my collection is when people who are savvy to a specific console comb through it and come to the realization that based on their most known console, the set they see is very dense with quality and hidden gems, and when they realize that mantra was applied to everything they usually get pretty excited, but if it was a bunch of "I bought everything idk whatever" then it doesn't say much in my mind. You often see people who 'collect' and by collect I mean they just buy whatever and throw it into corners and have no regard for placement, effectively they are just addicted to hording and half the time don't even care about the item they just decided to horde. On the other hand, people who collect fullsets can also be extremely knowledgable about the system to the point they are experts, and to that end I find their method very fascinating, showing a true expertise on something they love, which is very admirable. Context is king as always, there aren't a lot of wrong ways to collect, but there are some questionable ways, but the beauty of the hobby when it comes to dealing with other collectors is to learn about what drives them, and I say if it's coming from a good place then that's great even if it's not my way. Of course, most of us are limited by financial constraints, and that in itself is a big moderator. Even if I wanted to go for some fullsets, it would be at the sacrifice of things I wanted more.
  17. This is something I never really partook in, but I did end up doing a few that were small. It always just seemed kind of tough to have so much shit in your library, but if you only really love one or two systems, I kinda get it.
  18. Hey all, I've been buying on this forum and NA prior forever, but haven't really tried my hand at selling much. As I have mostly bowed out of collecting, I have been trying to go through my collection and older 'for sale' boxes to organize things to try and offload. As such, this could be considered a 'wave 1' of sorts, but I have plenty of PS4, some Vita, and a variety of other things I haven't tried to offload yet. If I ever get to the end of my selling pile I will also be giving away various low value items just to get them out of the space, but they could be helpful to someone eventually. I just need to thin the stuff out in waves in order to keep it organized at all, but if I can offload this stuff it would be hugely helpful to moving on to the next set of things. My Fiancee also has a lot of Switch, PS4 and Vita LRG stuff she will try to offload someday, but at the moment I am only including my stuff, basically I am only throwing it out there in case some very interested party cares, I could compile a list in private for her stuff if anyone were interested. As someone who has been collecting over 15 years, I'm savvy on how to ship items and am open to reasonable offers especially when considering larger volume purchases. I have tried to price the items below eBay pricing, however if I am off in my pricing or missed something, or you just want to shoot an offer, please don't hesitate, the worst I can do is decline the proposition, but I tend to be very easy going with this stuff and will treat our deals with appropriate respect. What you will see in the images is a lazy attempt to bulk photo everything since it's quite a bit, however if you want any more specific pictures or have any inquiry, I can easily oblige any request for details and more photos. Payment wise, I tend to stick to Paypal for any transactions, and no, I won't try to sneak in request for gift payments in our transactions. The bulk of everything here is new, but a few things are CIB and even fewer things missing some portion of it, if requested I can try to splice all of this into this post, but for now I have decided to keep it all into a spreadsheet to keep it cleaner. I also have a ton of LRG cards I haven't gone through yet, but I am not including any in these purchases as many ended up going into my own collection too. If anyone was interested I could prioritize photographing the extras I do have though. Pricing and notes included in the link below! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/15fB97syLSwAETH9nsOQsMelwF5-YVj_HIbMzTANBWvw/edit?usp=sharing Note that I am not an expert on sealed games in terms of 'authentic' seals, but all of these Switch games were purchased by me from normal retailers or LRG, so they should be good, same for the 3DS stuff. The PSP stuff I bought near the end of its life from various places, so if you want to see any details on those seals by all means ask, I assume they are all real but if any were suspect, it would be the PSP stuff. New Switch Games (If there are duplicates I will send best one first, but picture/describe anything to you prior) Used Switch Games Limited Edition Style Switch Games (I have 2 Spongebobs, forgot to image the other, if there are duplicates I will send best one first, but picture/describe anything to you prior) Amiibo 3DS/DS PSP (Used) PSP (New) That's all for now, hopefully we can work out some deals!
  19. While I'd guess NES for most since that's the legacy, SNES was probably my main motivator personally, even if I ended up collecting on many systems.
  20. Not really, but I could see the perspective for sure. I mean, we could always be doing something more 'helpful' or valuable with our money, but you have to remember that for most people we're in it for us. I've put a lot of money into my collection even if I have stopped mostly, however I also don't go on lavish vacations or buy really nice cars, smoke, or drink often. I also don't buy really nice clothing and other luxuries other people are into, how I see it is that at least the thing I enjoy has lasting value both in being fun to use, but also in some monetary retention I suppose. One of my coworkers spends thousands on shoes, so how I see it is that everyone will do what they are gonna do to be happy. If it makes you happy you shouldn't feel guilty about it, if you think you're hurting your life a lot for it, then maybe reconsider where you're prioritizing if you don't see the corner turning. I think a lot of this will be based on why you collect at all, for me the money element became an inhibitor because I was in it to get the stuff, not the speculative value aspect, so that ended up becoming much more an impedance than a benefit. Like obviously I care about its value because I already spent a lot on it, but if I could have not spent real money on it, I'd not care about the value at all. If I sold my entire game collection, I could likely pay off my mortgage.. 3x over, but I'm also working on saving towards that with my lady friend within the next couple years too, so I figure as long as I'm able to stay on top of my goals it's fine to horde
  21. I mean they basically abandoned half of their content in the US because it didn't line up with what Sony was doing.. Lke sure that might make sense if your system had a bunch of stuff going for it, but at that point they should have just owned their niche and released anything they could
  22. Hey all, haven't been posting in awhile due to work, but I also haven't picked up much worth showing off lately. Awhile ago I was communicating with Pipedream Games which is a small operation that makes reproduction Saturn releases of titles never released in the US.. So I bought most of their lineup aside just a couple titles, and I'm happy with the overall quality of them for sure. He's hoping to do the whole set of Shining force III releases soon, and these tend to include fan translations when applicable, so it's a neat addition for Saturn collectors.
  23. Honestly, I think I'd welcome the end of physical media for the PS and Xbox lines at this point if only to make LRG stop murdering my bank account, selfish I know, but physical media has entered a point where it's more frustrating to keep up with then ever.
  24. Somewhere between a memorable novelty and a good B tier system I would think. It has a ton of hidden gems that are a good unique time, just almost none of them rank in the upper echelon of the industry either. Even Nintendo's own output was largely less stellar than normal on it, so you end up with hundreds of good to great games, but not dozens of astonishing games as is usual with them. Still an important system overall.
  25. People like to go there to see TV's in person... Then buy them on Amazon.
