    That's a nice set.

I've always loved the home console versions of the Paper Mario games (even Super Paper Mario), but I've never played any of the Mario & Luigi games.  I've always wanted to, but never got around to it.  I wish they weren't on portable devices.  That would make it easier for me to play them.  I know that I can play Superstar Saga on the GB Player, but that doesn't help for the others.

Well, if you only play one, Superstar Saga is the one to play 🙂

Guess there is just a way too huge supply of them. I mean they are just everywhere I go. Definitely one of the only games I regret paying full price. Yeah, I preordered it.

I bought it for $22 a while back when it was on sale at Target after having missed a deal at Best Buy to get it for $20. Felt pretty smart, ha!

I gave Starlink the college try. It's OK. It's not great. The Arwing toy is the best part of it all.

Ubisoft was printing money back in the day with Skylanders. They couldn't print enough of those. Then they did the deal with Nintendo bringing Bowser and Donkey Kong in and that was probably even more profitable. For a while people were buying Superchargers on both Wii and Wii U just to get the Bowser and DK Amiibo toys.

Someone at Ubisoft predicted that this would be equally successful and commissioned a ton of copies to meet the expected demand. Unfortunately people don't like sci-fi nearly as much as they love fantasy even despite the success of a few franchises like Star Wars. Starlink isn't as fun or engaging as a bunch of dumb crazy monsters (Skylanders). The toys are probably all meh to the average person. I've only heard of a few people that collected Starlink toys and they are probably the kind of person who would rather go to Kennedy Space Center than Disney World (I know because I used to be that kid). The gameplay in Starlink is also niche -- even No Man's Sky being the most popular game in this genre is very niche itself and not something that appeals to kids. Making a Toys to Life game that doesn't appeal to kids was a huge mistake.

I remember hearing that Ubisoft wrote down a huge loss on Starlink. They probably won't do Toys to Life ever again. I think Amiibo is the last surviving Toys to Life franchise. I'm sure the retailers are all furious about being left with so much unsold inventory, just like they were probably furious with all the Animal Crossing Amiibo Nintendo printed. I will not be surprised if Starlink starter sets show up at Five Below eventually.

  3. I'm sorry this happened. I think the buyer was intending to scam you. They did a smaller deal with you to build confidence, then they scammed you on a larger deal that will net them a big enough payoff to make it worthwhile.

Unfortunately PayPal does not care and will never care about niche stuff like this. It's always going to be your evidence vs. the buyer's and if there isn't enough evidence they are likely going to side with the buyer. If you have to dispute this with PayPal it could be months of calling them and lots of time wasted.

I really don't know what else to tell you.

Will you look at this... I found three sellers doing this

Don't get me wrong, I understand collecting, and appreciating in value. However, I find this behavior disreputable to say the least. I mean, if people knew they could support LRG directly and get the game for 35% cheaper, why wouldn't they??

These eBay sellers are betting on people being too stupid to check the Limited Run website. I also think for this listing that shows up as “2 sold” already - those sales must be fake.

I guess I don't get the limited print runs. Don't you make more money selling 8001 games than printing 8000? Is it a supply issue? Is it a demand issue? Are unpopular games more likely to sell simply because they're limited? Sorry if that already got talked to death on NA, maybe I should find the old thread and read through it first.

These games are niche. The ones that get extra retail distribution at Best Buy or GameStop just sit on the shelves. Some of these limited print publishers haven’t even sold out of their backlog this year. Go look at Strictly Limited Games or Red Art Games or whatever, you’ll see they have some titles that have been available for months. These games are not popular or in demand beyond maybe some niche collector groups (like shmup gamers, or classic 2D platformer gamers, etc).

there are exceptions but even Celeste for being well known and all is still sitting on the shelves at Best Buy.

  6. What a tough question! For me I think puzzle games are good contenders, being so enduring, universally enjoyed and satisfying to play. I'd have to vote for Tetris or Bejeweled. Outside of that maybe The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time felt like a perfect game all around. Also Super Mario Bros. 3. Not my personal best games of all time and I haven't played every game ever made.

Just got word about that one French company, "Warned Collectors". Anyone use their service and/or heard back from them? Their last tweet was in August, and some games were slated to be shipping Q3... well, it's the tail-end of the year, and people're getting pissed. So much so that some are saying it's a scam. Buyers beware until we see some orders in people's hands.

There was a thread on Reddit a couple months ago saying pretty much the same thing. I would avoid them.

  8. necro bump. Heiankyo Alien has been on my wanlist for a while (just waiting for a good deal on a really nice CIB copy). Gonna have to check out Mercenary Force too.

Edit: just watched a gameplay video for 2 seconds and yes I need this game.

  9. Do you guys only look at NES and SNES? In the mixed bag of collectors and gamers category, I'm seeing demand go up for DS and 3DS stuff. Especially with hot franchises like Dragon Quest and Pokemon, but also with people snapping up more obscure titles. It also seems like N64 and GameCube aren't cooling down at all. But I think we will finally see Wii pick up as well. I've been watching Dokapon Kingdom prices on Mercari, this is a game that was going for $90-$100 CIB up until 3 months ago, suddenly now there's a couple CIB copies that have sold for $160. Same as I mentioned in another thread about Go Go Hypergrind suddenly going up.

Not that I think NES collecting is going out of style, but people will look at the prices for the most desirable stuff and make a decision about whether they think they can feasibly chase these sets or not. You will see people say things like "It's still cheap to collect for DS / PS Vita" or "I gave up on collecting for NES when I saw the price of [x]". Eventually there will come a day when collecting for DS isn't cheap any more. But the point is there's a herd mentality to this and if YouTubers are telling people about chasing DS games then that's where the basic crowd will go.

slg for some reason re did the Darius release for switch again. Makes no sense but I bought it regardless

The Darius thing was cool, those had only been released in Asia IIRC, only way to get them was from Play Asia, and those collections had less content than what is coming in the SLG version. I went in big time on this release, shmups always end up being in demand anyway and I love this series. My only gripe is it doesn't include G-Darius but oh well.

I'm a huge fan of Bubble Bobble, so I might actually keep the SLG order around for all the swag, but honestly - the new game is so terribly bad that double dipping for it will probably end up making me feel so bad that I should just cancel the order now. It really understands absolutely zero of what made pretty much all the classic Bubble Bobble titles great.

Ugh, that's so disappointing to hear. I passed on the SLG release because I was spending too much on other stuff. Still was looking to eventually pick up the game at retail. Maybe if it's not very good it will eventually be cheap to pick up on sale. But I was hoping this would actually be a good sequel. This and Bust a Move have been getting such awful installments since the Wii / DS games, it's sad.

I'm basically out of space, I guess that should tell me something.

That you need more shelves? Start hanging stuff from the ceiling? Put a shelving unit in the middle of the room like a 4 way tower and make it the centerpiece?
