Sad to hear but all good things must come to an end! My only advice is, don't wait until you have to relocate for a job. It's not like your employer is going to wait for you to sell everything before moving. A collection this big takes time to move, you already know that! If you are already comfortable parting with it then I think you should move forward with it.

I've been wanting to collect retailer exclusive variants for GameCube games but now I'm thinking it's going to be very difficult. Won't stop me from trying though!

My brother seems to think his copy of WarioWorld came with a bonus disc. He described the bonus disc to me and it just sounds like the GameCube Preview Disc that came in its own case. I told him I would ask around just to be sure although I'm already 99% certain that WarioWorld only had one release and never had a bonus disc.

I am not out here defending full set collecting, but if your definition of a full set extends to mean "every single cart that runs on the NES in any fashion," then it's not really possible to collect every NES game. Because homebrew includes random games and other software that may have been printed in comically low numbers. I know of music albums that have been printed on cartridges where the print run is less than 50. Maybe 10. You can't possibly expect to track those down after the fact. We're talking more rare than Stadium Events here just based on quantity that exists. And then you may as well count the prototype carts. And hey, maybe some game industry exec has a single copy of a prototype that never saw the light of day, and you don't. So you don't have a full set! No one does!

Common usage defines meaning. If I shorten "I did not buy the game" to "I buy the game" just by dropping off some words, that does not mean the intent is the same. I think when people talk about collecting Nintendo games, they usually mean collecting retail games. Homebrew is usually outside the scope of that and unlicensed games can be as well. So sure, people think of Tengen games as being retail games because they remember seeing them available for sale, but they probably don't think of unlicensed games that were only available via mail order in obscure publications that may have been 18+ only as being retail games. 

Obviously if I say "Full North American licensed set" then you know exactly what I mean and there's no argument to be had. But my point is when some collector says "I completed the NES library" "I have all the NES games" etc, their intent doesn't include titles like 8-Bit Christmas or whatever. 

Unless you mean to say you would reply to that person and tell them they are wrong and they don't really have a complete set. Which is your prerogative, go ahead I guess!

I've been hanging around r/GameStop and have learned that this is called a "gutted" copy. They do this because they use the games for display. If a GameStop location only gets 1 copy of a game (this is typical for smaller markets), then they won't have any sealed copies at all. 

Usually I try to avoid this but sometimes they have a daily deal and the shipping is $6 so I try to get the game for local pickup and depending where I go I might be getting a gutted copy. 

When they put the sticker over it, it means that if you break the sticker it's no longer new. Nothing confusing there.

They will never sell gutted copies at a lower price. It's their way of doing things. They will go out of business first. 

The alternative is you go to Walmart and all the games are in security boxes or behind glass. Which I would prefer, honestly. The display boxes always get so much wear and tear just from the customers that have no manners. But that's a more expensive system and GameStop probably can't afford it. 

You can remove the sticker residue completely, with no mess or damage to the plastic, with Bestine or Goo Gone. I've done this on probably a hundred or more boxes at this point. It will look like there was never a sticker there to begin with.

It's one of the rarest because it was a Blockbuster exclusive and usually the boxes were opened as soon as they arrived at Blockbuster since most copies were used for rentals.

There's a place called Retros in Lawrenceville, NJ. 

It is the worst indie game store I have ever been to. I hate it with a passion. I once spoke to someone who was a manager there for a short while and he said he is convinced it is a front for some illegal operation.

I know last time I got a little bit too excited and posted before verifying, but this time I think I've got my head on straight. An eBay seller just posted legit sealed copies of DW3 and DW4 for auction. I cannot wait to see what price these bad boys go for.

I have to find the pics... I did this once with a sealed copy of Klonoa for GBA, it had a really nasty security sticker right on the front. I applied a ton of Bestine around the sticker, then very carefully got my nail underneath it and kept adding Bestine as I loosened it. I was able to remove it and then clean the remaining residue without damaging the seal at all. 

Like you said though, I wouldn't recommend anyone do this. I certainly would not recommend that anyone start lifting it before applying copious amounts of Bestine (or Goo Gone but I always discourage using that). 

They must be doing well enough if they are still cranking out new products and expanding their product line. I just wonder if they will hit a point where the target market runs out of space for new machines and stops buying. People only have so much room!

The video pinball is an interesting one. Also that sit down Star Wars unit. That one would sell very well. 

These still feel like cheap goofy devices though. Not big enough to be a cabinet, not comfortable to play and the controls are too cheap for the games beyond casual messing around.

There are still light gun games in arcades being made. I'm pretty sure they have the quality of PS3 move controllers. Meaning there has to be a crosshair on screen at all times for you to know where the IR sensors or whatever are tracking. But I could be wrong about this. 

Knowing what Arcade1Up can do, this will be about as good as a Wiimote.

Yesterday I received the other 4 boxes I mailed myself from my parents house via UPS. I unloaded all the boxes last night but I’m still going through everything and sorting what’s there. So far I’ve gone through the rest of the GameCube stuff, the NES stuff and Game Boy stuff. First pic is the GameCube games I didn’t already have, I also did a bunch of upgrades with dupes that aren’t pictured, it’s crazy how many GameCube games I got through eBay or Mercari or Reddit in the past year that ended up having cuts in the plastic or wavy cover art or rips in the manuals or even missing inserts.

Next is the NES Z-bag my mom found at Goodwill, turns out this color combo is rare, I’m glad to have this.

I’ll be selling or trading everything that was in here as I don’t need any more loose NES carts.

Lastly here’s what I managed to salvage of Game Boy stuff in 3 pics.

First, the games that are all complete and in good condition, plus a bonus Game Boy Pocket my mom found. The first column is games that belonged to my brother, the second is games that originally belonged to me. There were also 5 dupes not pictured.

Second, these are games that are incomplete or in bad shape. Mega Man Zero 4 and Super Breakout / Battlezone i can fix. The rest are missing key stuff. Almost all are missing the trays. Most are missing manuals. These sting to look at because I had them in really nice shape... don’t know what happened. Was really hoping the Kirby games would have survived. At least they are commons, maybe someday I will replace them. In the meantime I will probably sell the boxes and various manuals because completing these looks like a headache.

Last are the loose games, some of these used to have boxes, and maybe there is a tote somewhere my mom never found that has them all, but oh well. Also Car Battler Joe was my brother’s, that’s a nice one.

Still have a bunch to go through!
