All done yep! Paired everything down to the really good stuff and love what I have way more now. Went from about 1400 games to ~300. Don't have any spare cash though, when you have an old BMW and it's almost $3 a litre for petrol, the spare change kinda vanishes

My brain hurts after reading this thread

Might seem silly but Sonic Heroes for the PS2. Been looking for a nice CIB black label copy all year. Two others popped up on the New Zealand alternative to eBay, but weren't quite right so passed on them. Managed to get a really nice one mid December for less than half of what the last one went for. Not rare by any stretch of the imagination, but my favourite addition because being patient worked out well.

12:08 Jan 1st 2023 in New Zealand. Happy New Years everyone! Hope you have a great year ahead of you and are able to achieve your goals (be it collecting or otherwise).
Let's hear some of those resolutions!

Bit of a bump - thought this was new before replying
Once the goals were achieved, pretty much stopped altogether. Weirdly enough it wasn't hard to adjust from collecting one day to not the next. I was borderline obsessed with collecting as a teenager, which is strange the bug left so easily. With basically every goal achieved, I've begun looking into other hobbies. My new car has a CD player (previous one didn't), so been buying RnB albums from the 2000s and reliving that area of nostalgia. It doesn't quite give the same feeling as games from my childhood gave, but definitely do look into other hobbies if you want to scratch some more nostalgia.

I know I'm not really active on here anymore since I've not collected for a couple years at this point (went from buying about 5-10 retro games a month to just 4 over the past two years, and only have about half a dozen more left I truly want). I'd guess prices are what's driven a lot of people away from the hobby (and by extension VGS).
It's the same on YouTube too, used to watch at least 50 collecting channels, and of those 50 you'd be lucky to see 2 or 3 still posting, with many of them not even owning collections anymore. I lurk way more than I post, since I don't have much of an insight into current collecting trends anymore (beyond what I hear on Collector's Quest). The community that's on here is great though, love the fact that it's still going - and it fills in the gaps of what's happening in the collecting sphere.
It's a bit sad to think about, but I view it as a hobby that's largely dissolved and those of us left are the ones that enjoy the playing factor just as much as we do/did collecting.

That's a cool little subset - near heard of or seen anyone go after this. They all look nice together, would imagine it'd make a nice display with all of them together

Really? Game doesn't have any interest to me so not in the market to buy it, but a lot of the retailers here have heaps of copies (especially the online retailers). The Switch game that was hard to get here was Klonoa, that was a tough game to find at a store. Went to go pre-order Pac-Man World today and saw four Digimon Survives

May be a weird choice but Pilotwings Resort. That's the one I first played, and have only played Pilotwings and Pilotwings 64 in the last few years. While I know they're good in their own regards, playing Resort first gave me a lot more expectations for the previous two. I like the other two, but because of that only enjoy Resort.

Not even close to all, but still a good resource. It was up almost immediately after NA's demise.
That's amazing it exists, genuinely had no idea until it was linked here.
Having looked at it a bit more you're right, it's definitely far from all of it. Got a bit excited at the prospect of looking at it again

Not only did that bring back some memories to a thread I WISH I was around on NA for when it happened (less than a year off), but it also made me learn of this archive. How long has this been around!? You can view ALL of the forum!

Been playing a bit of 3DS in the bursts of free time I have (mainly stuff like the 8-Bit Sonic games). Before the eShop closes, does anyone have any recommendations for some good unknown exclusive games on the eShop? Price doesn't matter, want to fully see what the store has to offer before it shuts down.

Pretty much since the beginning of my gaming career in 1990, I've been into Zelda...though for the first half of that decade I only had the first one and could only sometimes rent the second one. I did soon after get Link to the Past (once I finally got my own SNES for Christmas 1994) and in college (early 2000s) is when I did the N64, GBC, and then Wind Waker Zeldas. So far I've done all of them except Breath of the Wild...yet why have I still let that one collect dust the past few years?
Well since 2013 I've finally gotten around to doing RPGs as before I had this silly phobia of sorts about turn based combat, but since then I've slowly but steadily getting caught up with them. Honestly JRPGs completely blow Zelda games away...I remember in HS when one of my classmates showed me a game that he sad was "better than Zelda [Link to the Past]!" Now I thought he was crazy at the time, but though I didn't fully understand it at the time, I loved the charm and appeal the game he showed me had and the cute chick you get to meet right from the start That game my HS chum thought so much of...was Chrono Trigger.
But now I totally get what he meant...even if it did take me TWENTY frickin' years! JRPGs have such complex stories, much better variety of weapons/upgrades/sidequests, and of course with some you even get to have cute kawaii chicks in your party Try getting that from any ol' Zelda game!
I guess what I'm trying to say is that while Zelda has served me well for the first couple of decades or so of my gaming career, I feel like they are quite inadequate compared to much more interesting and much more complex JRPGs (even Jeff Rovin of those How to Win at Nintendo Games said that Final Fantasy is perfect for those who mastered the Zelda games!). You could even say I've kinda outgrown Zelda games. So that being said, I am offering them up for sale as you can see in the video I made showing them off...I even got most of the strategy guides included and yes all the GC Zeldas are black label! Take a look and let me know if you got any questions.

It's over 3 bucks a LITRE here now. It'd pretty much be 10 dollars for a gallon if we used that measurement here

Song that randomly appeared on my Spotify Discover Weekly, really good song

If I found an item that goes for those prices I'd definitely post it around here for interest in buying, then try find out the logistics of getting it safely from NZ to US. Money would definitely go into the bank, could go towards things like getting a newer car or just to have as a 'rainy day' safety net.

Nice! Having got a new job myself (albeit not from quitting the previous one but being offered it instead), the general excitement of a new role is always great. Being around beer, lucky bastard!

Some amazing stuff you got there, mate! Good luck with the sales! Having sold roughly ~60% of my collection recently, the money you suddenly have for monumental life events like that is great. Everything looks to be in amazing condition

Thanks for making such an entertaining podcast! Makes my day whenever there's a new one to listen to, no matter what mood I'm in it always cheers me up- especially Tyler's Michael Jackson impression a few episodes ago. That will never not be funny. Been listening since Episode 10 when I was 15 in the final days of middle school (actively a year later around late 2016), still listening now at 21 and starting my masters degree in a couple months (as a scale for time). Even after all these years I still eagerly await new episodes. I hope it picks up more traction in the coming year!

Having just finished my uni degree I decided to treat myself with Pokemon Shining Pearl! A couple hours into it and am loving every second of it! Also got a couple Gameboy games in the box (sadly ISS 99 isn't the US version, but I knew that going into buying it- the allure of the US version made me want to get a copy of it to see how it plays)
