Well, some sort of authentication adds a great deal of value. However, if the owner is happy that's ultimately all that matters.

    Heres my certificate.

In all seriousness though. I have paper trails for all of my work. Publishing those publicly however would risk the privacy of my sources.

I'll be honest, to me, this is probably the most significant piece of art I've seen show up here or on NA.  Considering it's age, Nintendo hadn't really formed an exact Link style when they were drawing him, and Mario was kind of in that camp to.  Nintendo (or at least NOA) was still in the process of solidifying the look of their characters.  This is an early rendition of link that looks like link.

I know it's not iconic box art, but this is part of the early-genesis of the character we know and love today.

@Archon 1981 Thank you so much for sharing this.  Is there a story behind how you got this item, or is it simply people reached out to you through what I am sure is an amazing network of contacts?

I agree! I dont care about most box art cause I didn't stare at that shit for hours like I did with magazines.

No real story id like to share. Just layers upon layers of networking.

  3. I've been showing this around on social for a couple days, but thought ya'll would like to see it 🙂

This is an early painted cel of Link during the lifespan of the original Legend of Zelda game. So early in fact that it pre-dates Nintendo Power 1, as it is found on the last page of the Tips and Tactics guide.

This might be the most historically significant piece I've ever held. I'm so excited to have found it!

I know Archon has a killer NOA/Nintendo Power collection (I saw the video) but I didn't even think to ask him. He's in Seattle/Redmond, correct?  Hopefully he has one, or has some contacts and is willing to get some updated photos and the pictures of the tags so we can verify these if one ever happens to show up for sale, or something.

Working on a shirt. Dont have one in hand yet. I do, as Tyler mentioned, have the button and the original art for the button.20200623_023622.thumb.jpg.5b107e8ca118ef8e5349a5a3a06ff8d3.jpg

No problem.  And you know I've been thinking about the totally complete lost to time gems of the period and something came to mind as I've been reading up on a few old loves of gaming and it hit me.  I got a challenge for you if you're curious. 😉

Wing Commander II Revenge of the Kilrathi for the Super Famicom/Super Nintendo.  The game was entirely completed and ready to go, english no less, submitted to the Japanese company PONY canyon, but for some mystery was scrapped from production and not released.  Supposedly the completed copy was it they had their hands on and it's gone up in vapor.  I'd love to know the history of that one more than what WCnews (wing commander news (website)) has on it.  It would be a truly amazing score because unlike WC1 which was broken into 2 carts with a password, this one was supposedly intact, expansions and all, even speech pack and battery.  I'd consider finding this one even more of a long shot than Dragon Hopper on VB.

This isn't really how I work. Truth be told I dont actually hunt prototypes. I just happen across them when looking for other stuff i AM  interested in.

Archon I think I've said something like this before elsewhere, but what you do with this stuff is so the right thing to do for the community at large but also for historical archiving and appreciation of the art that is gaming.  A saint within this community which is few and far between.  You share, you don't lord it over others so people can enjoy the experience as well.

...now get cracking on finding Dragon Hopper for Virtual Boy, we know it's done, and presumably lost. 😉

This is a development ROM for Earthbound. This is NOT a sample of the final ROM. There are dozens and dozens of differences. Mostly around text, textures, and polish issues. The debug menu is also enable by default.

The game has already been dumped and is safe. You'll get it at some point (im honestly trying to let the current Nintendo leak stuff calm down a little first)

I have been playing it on stream on my youtube channel in the meantime.

  8. Hi!

So I'm not going to get into details over what happened. It doesn't actually matter. There was what I believed to be threat to the confidentiality of one of my sources, and my kneejerk reaction at the time was to shut it down. That didnt really last long, as I the primary purpose for continuing to build this collection is to share it. I ended up starting a twitter account ( http://www.twitter.com/artofnp ), and have been mostly been sharing there. Truth be told, I kinda forgot about this thread.

Anyway! I'm opening it back up. And the first thing I wanted to show you is actually... a lot. My primary intention for this collection this year was to travel it around to conventions to have live exhibitions, which I obviously cant do on account of COVID-19. SO I decided to put it all together in my home and do a quick video, so people didnt have to wait another year or more to see any of the work I've done.

    Here you go!

This is an amazing collection! The Gradius art is especially cool. I'm curious - what is an 'Employee Art Test Sample'?

    -CasualCart

These were samples thr artist submitted to nintendo to get the job as a staff illustrator. They arent published, but still part of the story. The storytelling element of this collection is my favorite part
