  1. I need some snes box protectors and looking on ebay everything is coming from overseas. Are those the best options? Some protectors i've had in the past are too small for some of my snes games. I'd like something that is a known good quality. I would also buy sega cd protectors too if someone has a reference for those.

I thought this was a thread about the old NA story of the dude who found a case of unopened stadium events

I wanna see something I haven’t seen before.

The guy with cases of nes games saved them from a warehouse clearout in the 90s.

I saw just yesterday a tweet showing of thousands of NOS mask toys just discovered in chile. Nes games could definitely still be out there.

Huge thanks for the info!  I was actually just coming back to this thread to post that I've spent the whole evening opening up ALL my  Namco 163 famicom carts and like 95% are glob tops.  The closest I've got is the same 111F0 donor you have pictured that has the battery but no RAM.  It came from a Kaijuu Monogatari, which is almost always glob tops, but I finally got lucky.

Though, after seeing your pictures, turning my 111F0 cart into what you've developed looks like a massive undertaking.  So, two questions: one, have you tested the Pac-Man CE on your proof of concept cart pictured and come up with positive results?  And two, would you build one of those pcb's for me (assuming Pac-Man CE works) and charge me whatever you feel is fair for your time and effort and research plus whatever profit you want to make?  I can send you my Kaijuu Monogatari cart, if that would help...

that is excellent, that is actually the best case donor i settled on and used for my build.

yes i've tested pacman and it seems solid. i'd be down to build yours. need to do final checks when i get back. i'll shoot you a dm and we can discuss.

i haven't figured out what to do for shells yet. i'm not sure it'll all go nicely back into the fami cart shell. i was looking at some repro shells + converters from aliexpress but haven't ordered yet. what were you thinking? are you playing on an og nes or an avs or something else?

  4. I have successfully built a proof of concept cart. this is not an easy repro. see pics here

(i've been out of town since shortly after this, so checking my high scores are still intact is my last test when i get home)

Any cart that uses the Namco 163 audio features will, by default, use the same NES mapper. This means finding donors will be the easy part.

Lookup the cartridge list of that audio expansion chip here: https://wiki.nesdev.com/w/index.php/List_of_games_with_expansion_audio#Namco_163

Then buy the cheapest release on the list.

No. donors for this game are a huge hurdle. only some of the games using this chip are known to have chips that can be pulled and replaced. i've found none of those that also have ram (required) and the battery circuit (to save high scores, optional), so you're hacking in one or the other. beyond that, basically every possible donor also was produced as globtop boards, and they *far* outnumber the chip versions. I've purchased and checked 15 likely carts and got one usable donor, which is now my test cart. to top it off, bootgod's db site is down so i don't have anything to go back to for reference at the moment.

I've asked a couple repro board makers and nobody has a 163 board available or in the works. your best option right now is a flashcart. the powerpak with loopy's mapper pack plays this very well- the expansion audio sounds don't always stop when they should but it's a very minor issue. i don't have an everdrive but i'm guessing it should be capable as well.

i have a couple hopefully high chance carts in the mail, which i've earmarked for people already. in the next week or so i'll be doing another bulk buy hoping to get lucky with a donor or 2. i'm out of town until after labor day so i'm not working on anything until at least then. feel free to hit me up with questions.

I don’t care about the ban on political items, but allowing BLM while banning Blue Lives Matter or All Lives Matter isn’t something I agree with, plus BLM clearly implies political affiliation. Goodyear can do whatever they want, but I bet many employees aren’t thrilled about it.

i was gonna make a joke about being surprised that "stop murdering black people" was not a universal position but at this point it's pretty clear you're right

I was lucky enough to need a minor couple of heart surgeries in my early twenties.  If I didn't become a pharmacist my parents would still be in debt because of that for sure.

Exactly. Most people dont look past what immediately benefits them and are fortunate enough to never have that kind of burden early on. But the younger generations seem to understand this better than the boomers, hopefully there will be real progress towards it in the next couple decades.

Medicare for all is a ludicrous idea in this country because of how many people we have, but more importantly how unhealthy people are.  Even if we strip other massively bloated areas of the budget (of which we have tons, like military/defense and politicians pay) we still couldn't come up with that money.  Ideally it would be great if we could make it work, but I don't see that happening here in our lifetime.

It would be paid for by taxes, which would average out to less than people currently pay for health insurance premiums. But most people don't understand they're being raked over the coals by private insurance companies, while still being at risk of going bankrupt if something bad happens to them.

My job pays 100% of my premium and I'm still in favor of m4a because cancer or even a car wreck could be enough to wipe me out.

  8. wtb: famicom namco 163 games - specific carts

    View Listing

howdy, I'm looking for namco 163 carts, but specifically carts with ICs and not globtop roms. I haven't found a way to distinguish carts visually, but they can be identified by weight.

    here's a potential list:

    short carts:

    Dokuganryuu Masamune
Hydlide 3: Yami Kara no Houmonsha
Kaijuu Monogatari ** known to exist with IC
    King of Kings
    Mindseeker
    Sangokushi: Chuugen no Hasha

these should weigh 60g+. any less than 60g (probably less than 55g) are most likely globtops

    tall carts:

    Battle Fleet
Famista '90 ** known to exist with IC
    Juvei Quest
Megami Tensei II: Digital Devil Story
    Sangokushi II: Haou no Tairiku

these should weigh 65g+ (I think). anything less than 60g is probably a globtop, based on the one famista 90 I have weighing 57g.

additionally these may be of interest to me, but I don't know what expected weight should be

    Dragon Ninja
    Youkai Douchuuki

if anyone has carts they are not interested in selling I would be interested in weights anyway for survey purposes.

will pay better than ebay prices for suitable carts, and have several copies of kaiju monogatari if you would like to swap for yours.

I'd be inclined to agree with you, but the thing is (at least from eBay's perspective) if you go to an bid-only auction, go to contact the seller, and then look at the reasons, there's a "Make an Offer" option.  If you follow through that path, you will see it say:

This would seem to imply that house rules allow for this type of engagement. So, is eBay wrong on this and should they not allow it (or suggest it to begin with) or if the house allows for outside communication on working out a deal before the end of the auction, should it be considered fair game?

That is new to me, although its been a while since i was doing this.

Like a lot of things, there is what you are allowed to do, and what you should do. Cutting off someone else's bid still seems like a dirty play, even if ebay lets you.

But what if there are, and explain.

Bids are supposed to be binding, meaning the buyer is prepared to pay that and the seller lets it go for whatever amount. Trying to make a deal while bids are in place is interfering with someone else's agreement. Without any bids this isnt an issue. Also without bids the seller can add a public BIN option, so its still available for anyone to grab.

Ive made an exception for this once, when some ass killed a great BIN price with a 99c bid. I messaged the seller and offered his bin price and he accepted.

Kind of related to this type of 5 minutes of hate, what do you guys think about sending messages to sellers making an offer (when they didn't give the option) on items they have up for bid?  Is this backdooring? I know it's not in the traditional since BUT if you go to contact the seller, there is an option to ask to make an offer, even when they didn't give the option with the listing.

Trying to beat fellow bidders and scalpers to the bunch by sending a high price value to the seller--right or wrong?

If there are no bids i have no problem with it.

  12. Perot is something ive been meaning to go back and read on. Im sure my childhood memories don't paint the right picture. From the bits ive come across over the years, it sounds like perot had a shot at winning until he tanked his (and bush's) chances. Clinton was the underdog in that race.

  13. The only way trump wins is election fraud. He's not going to carry any group outside his core support. This presidency has been a disaster, and its going to get worse if they dont extend unemployment benefits.

Biden has problems but hes the "safe" choice. All those centrists swayed by trump the first time arent falling for it again. People who refused to vote for Hillary specifically will have no issue voting for biden.

Wouldn't be surprised if biden doesnt make it a full term but it wont matter at that point

  14. It will need to go to the mapper. The specific mapper pin will be for "prg a17". That pin may have a trace you can wire to for easier access (would not expect it), but it isnt currently going to the prg slot as there's no corresponding pin on the mask rom.

Placing the chip upside down is an interesting idea, ive done that with ram chips but not eproms.

  15. For both sides it should be pins

    1 up

    2 - hole 22

    24- ground

    30 up

    31 up (for clearance)

    32- hole 28

For a 2mb chip pin 30 will have to go to the mapper for prg a17

a 32 pin eprom won't fit in the prg space without cutting the shell, keep that in mind before you get too deep
