I feel like Super Mario 3D Land / Bowser's Fury is a mandatory playthrough in 2021 so I'm doing just that.

But I took a break from that, as if pulled by a strange unknown force and I dug up my Atari Lynx and wanted to see if it still worked. It does! If you're familiar with the system, you know you need a game to get it to boot, without software to read it just plays dead. Not even a BIOS screen, nothing.

So I grabbed the first game I could reach, a game I had for years but never actually played because it's just one of those fillers that never gets any mention, good or bad. That game is Robo Squash. What is Robo Squash you ask? Well as the back of the box implies, it is the Ultimate Zero-G Futuresport and nothing less.

In reality it's "3D" 1st person pong with a dash of Nickolodeon zaniness thrown in for good measure. Played for 2 hours straight.

That sounds like a wonderful thing to play for a few

I played through the game multiple times back in the day and on my 2nd or 3rd time through I made an extra save file on the world map just after the Flint tutorial solely so that I would never have to go through that beginning again.

I've actually never played the first golden sun, but the sequel is so so so good

I am struggling to continue on this one. I’m going to keep at it but definitely not as in to it like the first one

Agreed, I don't even understand why it's not. Over all it feels like a better game than the first one was. Except for the main character being a mr "I don't have time for anyone else" tough guy.

Still working on ZOE 2nd Runner. Not as exciting as the first game, but I can't stop now! Also started Super Robot Wars V on the Switch.

I'll admit I took a little bit of a break from ZoE2 need to pick it back up but I've been playing kingdom hearts for the first time. Not sure how I feel about it other than a general "meh"

agreed on the new main character. Just got done escorting a guy headed to Mars and I'm already over this main character and his "tough guy" attitude. I feel like at some point I'm going to hear the link line "well excuuuuuse me".

I have a feeling I'm right behind you. It's the guy in the container right? Yeah his whole "we can't help you" come on dude. At least hear the sos out geez.

And done with ZOE. Way too short of a game, but fun. Starting the second one tonight.

Baller! I just started ZOE2 last night. It's already so much better than ZOE in terms of gameplay. Main Character can be a bit "extra" but much better than Leo.

Love ZOE! I never finished it, but that was NOT due to disliking it. I bought the PS3 HD collection a couple years ago and need to get back to it. I also heard the same thing about the second one, so my goal is to play them back to back.

Join me in playing them friend! We can play them and then discuss them like some kind of game club or something! I think I beat the first one once and remember the ending being a bit sad but I'm replaying and I'll see what happens.

  8. Had a very tasty lager yesterday at killarney house in Maryland. If anyone finds themself in Maryland near Annapolis and wants a wonderful pub experience, I strongly recommend it. The beer is good, the food is great and the atmosphere is quite cozy on a ugly rainy day.

  9. I've been game hopping lately, but I seem to be stuck on replaying Zone of Enders for the first time in a long while. I forgot how much I love this game but greatly dislike it's control scheme. Mostly the fact the the O and X are function switched compared for a larger amount of the ps2 titles. That being said, it's such a beautiful game and feels so good even several years later. I've been told that Zone of Enders 2 is also great so I'll likely throw that one in next.

Thank y'all for your encouragement - sad to say this but I don't have anyone to really tell me this. I've been kind of struggling lately. Thank you again for the kind words

I'm a little late to this thread, but I'm proud of the dedication you've shown to staying sober. You took what (maybe?) was a problem, and made a commitment to stay away from it. Almost 7 years of that commitment no less. That's a true accomplishment right there, good work!

just finished Links Awakening on Switch and decided to go back and do the original TLoZelda on NES, then go through the series on each console.

Just got the White Sword so really I'm just getting started.

Now I feel inspired to finally finish Link's Awakening on the switch. Don't know why I haven't yet, it's really enjoyable.

  12. Looks like I'm not too late to this party, I wanted to say thank you to @DefaultGen@Johnny and Stefan but since Stefan is on twitter I'll just stick with the cool guys instead. Jokes aside, I really appreciate the three of you taking the time to put together the podcast. I'm not sure if I would say there is a direct correlation between me getting into videogame collecting and listening to the collector's quest but I can say that when I was ready to start collecting I already had a wealth of great tips and tricks thanks to you three. Johnny was actually true to his word and super responsive on instagram about a gamecube collecting question I had and that speaks volumes to me. I also would not have of found this wonderful community as easily as I did had it not been for the three of you that and I'd probably be collecting disc only (ew). So thanks guys, keep up the excellent work!

(Also gimme those deets on the patreon if you're being serious, you guys I'd gladly contribute financially towards if it helps you out.)

I just want to say about the "hasn't aged well" thing, I think of that similarly to how your food preferences often evolve as you get older. Kind of like how so many of us loved stuff like chicken nuggets and pizza rolls, and now perhaps can still enjoy them but understand they're, well, not exactly fine dining.

When we were kids in the 80s and 90s it was easy to be wowed by stuff, taken by the hype, etc. As you get older you realize a lot of the games released were kind of crappy and were only impressive because we didn't have many reference points. Frankly, when you look at the libraries of most consoles, only a small or moderate percentage of most of them have much gaming value today.

While I do take into account how a game has "aged" or whether it was "impressive for its time" I don't really think of those as qualifiers, more just historical descriptions. For example, games that got the most out of a limited sound chip, used heavy parallax scrolling, etc.

On a bit of a tangent, I can't tell you how many 8- and 16-bit games I've picked up, played for 2 or 3 minutes, and gotten stuck. I've gotta wonder if I'm an idiot, or if as kids we just had a lot more perseverance and less of a sense of opportunity cost/not having time to waste. It's neat to me how many serious thoughts pulling these old games out can spark.

I'll give you credit for the "opportunity cost" point. Then again, I'm not sure when I decide to consider that in my "do I continue playing or not" decisions.

For example, I mentioned it elsewhere (possibly in this thread I forgot) but I recently beat scooby doo mystery mayhem on the gamecube. Let me tell you, that game is pretty garbage. There were definitely individual things I liked but the game design and controls felt like hot ass. Not to mention the often confusing level layout.

That all being said, I still beat the game. I could even see my self replaying it. So while I'd give it a horrible review, I definitely had fun and yes me being a scooby doo fanatic likely has something to do with the fun I had but beyond that I still feel like I enjoyed the game.

Could I have been doing something more productive or profitable with my time? Yeah. Did I really care? Nah, I was off the clock and just wanted to play and enjoy something. Before I lose sight of my point, I suppose what I'm saying is if you need to consider "opportunity cost" when you're playing a game, you probably need to stop playing it and do something else instead.

"We have a monkey with a wireless implant in their skull with tiny wires who can play video games with his mind," he said. "You can’t see where the implant is and he’s a happy monkey. We have the nicest monkey facilities in the world. We want them to play mind-Pong with each other. That would be pretty cool."

That would be super cool if true. That much closer to digitalization of the brain
