  1. when i was a kid, i would obsess over the manuals. even the generic one-pagers that came with rented NES games. it was just another way to live in that world.

nowadays, i will usually quickly breeze through them if i pick up a new game (big IF it even comes with s booklet) or a new-to-me game (disc based only).

IMO the loss of manuals is a significant decline in the gaming world.

  2. i wouldn't mind a signed AVGN game for display purposes, but that's as far as i would go. Definitely wouldn't be my play copy- i would be afraid to wear the sharpie off the cartridge.

i would love to get a copy of Mario or Zelda signed by Miyamoto. a sports/licensed sig (like @CIB_Wholesale's Tony Hawk above, or Mike Tyson on Punch-Out!!, or even Harrison Ford on an Indiana Jones game) would be fine too, but not something i'd seek out. OK, maybe the Tyson one. actually, getting both Schwarzenegger and Peter Weller to sign a copy of Terminator vs. RoboCop would be pretty cool. But none of these people are "influencers", so now i'm just rambling.

I think the Wii's legacy will be one of breathing life back into Nintendo after 3 commercial failures [...] while proving that they could still march to the beat of their own drum and be successful doing so in an industry that was skewing in a different direction.

i think, to me, this is the answer. While the GC started the trend, the Wii really solidified that Nintendo wasn't trying to compete with Sony/Microsoft from a 'powerful console' standard. They wanted to innovate, create new ways for consumers to enjoy their games, and experiment. Whether that was by choice or by necessity i don't know, but i do know that it helped me enjoy different play styles.

I gotta say, I've never had an issue with Wii controls outside of skyward sword. That game was ruined by the waggle.

Personally, I liked the motion controllers and never had any trouble using them.

pretty much the same here. Skyward Sword was my only overtly negative experience with the motion controls. Not sure if the game just required precision that i couldn't meet, or if the sensors couldn't handle what i was doing, but it led to a decent amount of frustration.

Mario Kart Wii is my favorite of the franchise, and using the Wiimotes + wheel is the preferred way to play in my household. It just adds an extra level of fun, especially for less serious gamers. it had the bonus effect of leveling the playing field somewhat, as any hardcore gamers that would come by to play would get frustrated by using the wheel and just wanted to use a GC controller.

  4. damn, i'm a pretty big Tarantino fan, so picking a favorite is hard. I ultimately went with Pulp Fiction, as i have watched that the most and love every second of it.

but Django Unchained is fucking awesome, and it is my go-to movie for when i want to watch the world burn.

but sometimes you just want to watch people kill Nazis, and you can't do better than Inglorious Basterds.

and of course, Reservoir Dogs is a classic.

and i have a soft spot for Death Proof.

and, and, and, it was a tough choice.

I admit that my time with wrestling was about a one-year blip, but I am still interested in keeping up with some of the stories.

Is Roman still the champion?!  I mean, I'm not trying to be the guy that points out the obvious, but how long can you script this guys wins until people get bored with it?!  I really thought they were going to give him something like just over 500 days a a champion, but maybe they want to push for just over 1,000?!

Roman is the "WWE Universal Champion" for over 1000 days already. He is nearing the 500 day run for his "WWE Championship".

Seth Rollins holds a newly created title, the "World Heavyweight Championship" for a couple months now. This title has no relation to the old WCW WHC, the 2002 WWE WHC, or any other title lineage.

I enjoyed Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee more than both Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl and Sword/Shield, but that also comes with the caveat of Pikachu and Eevee being a remake of one of my favorite gens, Red/Blue.

same. i loved Red/Blue when they came out, and thought Let's Go was a lot of fun. I've been longing for a Let's Go Gold/Silver ("Let's Go-ld"?) sequel, but it's been like 5 years since the initial release, so it's looking less and less likely.

  7. for licensed cereals, i was all about the Nintendo Cereal System. Legend of Zelda in a cereal? sign me up! i also remember really liking the Batman and Spider-Man cereals.

for "regular" cereals, my all-time favorite is/was Lucky Charms. more specifically, we always got the offbrand "Marshmallow Mateys". same stuff, different box (or bag in this case).

the only cereal i buy now is if they put out a new edition of Lucky Charms (a couple years ago they did a berry flavor) or the Monster cereals around Halloween (they're introducing a new monster this year!)

my mom signed us up for all sorts of trials and product tests, and my favorite of that bunch went on to get a short release as "Hidden Treasures". i remember really liking it, but i don't think it ever made its way back to my part of the country.

Dude, ANYONE can make a YouTube video! Where's the proof that video wasn't made by Reggie Fils Aime, up to another of his dastardly tricks? 🤔

or worse yet, current president Doug BOWSER!

  9. played through Wario Land 2 for the Game Boy Color today. hadn't planned on beating the whole game, but the save battery was dead so had to power through in one sitting. only about 5 hours, so that wasn't too bad.
the game is pretty mediocre. all of the abilities from the first game are gone. the challenge level dropped considerably so it is closer to a Kirby game in that regard.
this game did have some interesting level design with lots of exploration opportunities. there must be some sort of branching paths or hidden exits, because i know there are levels i didn't reach. but with no saving and no world map or stage select, i have to call it done.

What are your favourite snack treats from the following categories. I tried to cover everything but if I missed something add it in.  Specific brands and flavours too!

Candy: Gummies. man, i just can't get enough of them. i alternate between regular and sour. they're both so delicious! Trolli is the king!

Chocolate: a quick candy bar is my go-to. Mr. Goodbar, Twix, Baby Ruth

Frozen: Ice Cream. i don't eat it much, so when i do i try to pick up either Dippin' Dots or Ben & Jerry's. I'm partial for Stephen Colbert's Americone Dream (it's been awhile, they may not even make this anymore) and Phish Food

Baked: cookies. Either Gingersnap/Molasses or Chocolate Chip.

Potato Chips: Doritos. lately i've been on a Goldfish kick.

Drinks: Mountain Dew. i'm a bit obsessed at trying all of the new flavors. otherwise Dr. Pepper w/cherry.

  11. after taking about 2 months away from gaming, i returned to Tomb Raider today. yeah, i decided that this one's not for me. I'm probably around 50% through the game (at the Midas catacombs or whatever people call that area). i'm kind of enjoying the puzzle elements, but everything else is a negative. the graphics, the tank controls, i'm just not loving the overall package, so i'm calling it quits. on to the next!
