Creative housing

I am always impressed when people come up with ideas to  repurpose structures into homes  - be they missle silos, airplanes, railroad cars or lighthouses. (I think of it as the ultimate in recycling.)

A few miles from my abode there is a duplex that started life as a large concrete water storage tank that was used by a long defunct water district.

At some point in time someone bought it and converted it to living space.  It has very thick walls (5' or so IIRC) and a good chunk of it is underground. A long time ago I read an interview with then people who did this with it - their biggest single expense was paying someone with a diamond blade saw to cut the doors and windows. Because  of the thick walls and being mostly underground it is extremely energy efficient all year round.

Any repurposed houses in your area?
