Rolo to the Rescue Prototype

Recommended Posts

There’s a listing on ShopGoodwill for. Genesis prototype. Looks like Rolo to the Rescue…

I wonder if it’s a legit prototype… EA games typically came in a taller EA Genesis cart. This particular game looks to be in a standard Genesis cart. Also, the retail game seems to be Dark Castle as evidenced by the end label… but the Dark Castle retail release should have  also been an EA tall cart game.. so why is this in a standard Genesis shell?

I can't say for sure, but prototypes are notoriously non-standardised and developers would basically cobble them together from spare pieces close to hand.

In this case, the developer of the game was British, whilst the final production copies of EA games were manufactured in Taiwan. So, it is unlikely they would wait for specialised parts just to throw a prototype together.

These are just my thoughts on the matter anyway, I have no way of actually verifying the authenticity of that prototype one way or the other.

According to sega retro 11/3/92 is the date that game came to retail in two regions, so unless that sticker has the backwards(non US standard) date system I'm kind of wondering how that's Beta 1, that's the earliest state out of alpha.  Could that be a coincidental March build?  I'd be just a little nervous of that being a finished version with just stupid text put to it by EA being lazy about it.

I don't do these but is $450 even at this rate reasonable or low or are we high at this rate with all the questions with no way to get answers?
