Based on historical data combined with average cost to raise a kid from 0 to 18, if you were to invest that money instead...

I think society will be happy to take my (extra) money to keep me going through retirement lol. It should absolutely not be on the kids to care for their parents in their old age.

    Hi, it's me...Society.

  2. If you're waiting for the perfect time to become a parent, then the time will be a about five minutes past never. You'll always be just one more milestone away. Truth is, there is no perfect parent.

That being said, not wanting kids entirely? Well that's a normal thing throughout history too. Not all people end up marrying and procreating and that's fine.

  3. I put all my musty smelling stuff in a brown paper bag, then place that bag inside of a Tupperware filled with sodium bicarbonate (baking soda).

Leave it sit for a couple days and the smell is gone with no other lingering odors.

make sure you remove the cause of the must first though. If you have mold then you won’t remove the smell permanently.

Items that are used like money but aren't fiat currency. Crypto and, apparently, sealed games. And mandolins if you're @ThePhleo.

    >_>

Hey now...I'll still trade my rare stuff for some Crypto, or rare instruments....or vice versa.

Also, not just mandolins, but any weird turn of the century stuff. I want some classic guitars, a real Strativarius violin, I'll take some old bullion, and vintage camera equipment, I want to get into old films, records, early electronics, vintage computers.

I also want to get into gemstones, fossils...and weapons.

    I do!

It took a year and a half of looking but I finally was able to get one off of Ebay this week.

Oval seal 5 screw Castlevania should not exist, since they had already transitioned to 3 screw carts during the black circle seal print run.

Does this prove that these Konami/Ultra 5 screw oddballs with no back label are repair carts? I don't think there is any scenario where this came from the factory like this.

You can see in the closeups that there has been a repair to the board.

Is this the first one of these found? ThePhleo's quote there is the only mention I could find of it via a Google search.

Does anyone have a board pic of a 3 screw oval seal board? I'm curious to see if the repaired chip is different.

Wow 🙂 I thought this might be the case.

So, I'll have to update my list to include the "Pre-Transition" games as possibly 5-Screw oddities (despite them having "legitimate" 5-screw variants)

So, the repair theory is starting to add up thanks to this. But what still makes no sense is, where the heck is the documentation that you can submit a game to Konami for repairs!? The warranty cards maybe?

  6. Personally,

I just don't see the Game Boy Color as a unique system in the same way that I don't see the PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 4 Pro as unique systems.

Let's just take a look at the launch titles of the Game Boy Color.

    1. Centipede
    2. Game & Watch Gallery 2
    3. Tetris DX
    4. Pocket Bomberman

    ...

    ...

Yeah, that's NOT a new console.

  7. Some modern developers, especially on Steam release M rated hentai games and just by some miraculous co-incidence on launch day, there exist "hacks" of the game that make the game convert to XXX.

The Japanese are quite fond of their XXX games too, but more infamously on NEC platforms like the PC-98 or PC-FX. There are some non-hentai games with nudity that are AMAZING. My personal favorite being a game called "Dead of the Brain"

    Lightfoot is Out

    https://chicago.suntimes.com/elections/2023/2/28/23619711/chicago-mayor-lori-lightfoot-vallas-johnson-april-4-runoff

With nearly 99% of the precincts reporting, the mayor who guided Chicago through the pandemic finished third in Tuesday’s election with 17.06% of the vote behind former Chicago Public Schools CEO Paul Vallas, who won 33.77 %, and Cook County Commissioner and Chicago Teachers Union organizer Brandon Johnson, who wound up with 20.29%.

Vallas then returned to the law-and-order message that carried him into the runoff. “Public safety is the fundamental right of every American. It is a civil right, and it is the principle responsibility of government. We will have a safe Chicago. We will make Chicago the safest city in America,” he said.

With violent crime and the perception of it foremost on the minds of voters, the mayor who chose Chicago Police Supt. David Brown and stubbornly refused demands from all eight challengers to get rid of him failed to make the runoff.

Businessman Willie Wilson...“We’ve got to get Chicago right. Too many people have suffered under Lightfoot’s hands. And I don’t even know if she still thinks that crime is high. I think she feels that crime is low, to be honest with you. She just don’t get it. If a person don’t know that they’re doing something wrong, how can they fix it?”

Thank God that racist is gone. How big is it now?

    Summarizing from email I got:
Nicholas Membrez-Weiler was the youngest finalist to reach the world championship, and is now selling his gray cart, #120, graded 6.5 (CGC). There are currently 22 bids standing at an even $40,000, with 2 weeks left in the auction, where some further details of his story are described, including a video. He is also selling his  contestant info sheet (currently a steal at $16 high bid, cool item imo) his 1990 age 11 and under "Tombstone" plaque ($33), and semi-finals cup ($120).

Other NWC memorabilia on auction here

I have nothing to do with this, just sharing for general interest.

    @ThePhleo

    nin28.1_2.jpg

    Thanks for the shoutout.

I'm currently high bidder on a couple of the items. I'm in between business stuff right now, so unfortunately this isn't my chance to buy a cart either. Maybe next one. (This is also one I always liked too, that and the infamous "MARIO" cart)

Edit: Oh crap It's at $40k already? When i put my bids in the cart was like $11k!

Indiana Jones is a NES exclusive - AFAIK it was never released on the Famicom, aside from bootleg copies (actually that game is not particularly common to find in Taiwan, can't comment about in other large Famiclone regions such as South America or Poland).

It's interesting that they went the route of using a Famicom board + adaptor. It makes me almost wonder if this would be the same case for all (or most) of the pirated games, whereas the originals were done directly as 72-pin boards.

Yep, I’m starting to believe they sourced EVERYTHING from a Taiwan bootleg company now.

So…maybe the Famicom versions of those Brush Rollers and Fire Dragons are also bootlegged from another company?

Do you know what fully authentic Fire Dragon, and Brush Roller would look like Dave?

    This is really interesting 🙂

Can someone please explain what all of this is?

Brush Roller, Fire Dragon, and various other games from the Brazilian game “publishing” company “INTERATIVE” (yes that’s the right spelling)

Brazilian releases are shrouded in mystery and no one in our small community or even extended circles really goes out of their way to document their existence.

I have a fairly decent list of Brazilian games, but even then, I can go right now on Mercado Livre right now and discover a bunch more, just by looking at every listing.

I’m pretty sure you know what Phantom Air Mission, and Snowboard Challenge are (they’re licensed PAL releases of Ultimate Air Combat, and Heavy Shreddin’)

Okay, well I was wrong and this has globs too.

The jury is in, I think it's safe to conclude that these interactive games are official.

    IMG20230224194937.jpg

    IMG20230224194944.jpg

    That *is* pretty damning.

They’re identical labels and everything. So, looks like Brush Roller & Fire Dragon are back on the menu boys 🙂

Just so odd that Interative would make straight up pirates, and then work with people from overseas out of nowhere. But, Brazilian games are just crazy like that I guess.

I love the look, how old they are and they are extremely rare to even locate, let alone get someone to give it up. NES has soooo many games across this planet, what a fun treasure to hunt down, but man are some almost impossible to find

No joke, and WOW thank you for sharing this.

I still need to finish the standard 677, but stuff like this keeps me going.

I'll admit I'd have been nervous opening up one of these.

Well I have fire dragon and brush roller if y’all wanted to see pics of boards or anything ….

I also see that Phantom Air Mission in your avatar too...wow (what about Snowboard Challenge?)

Any info shared would be appreciated in regards to demystifying anything from Brazil. A screenshot of the title screen would be great too.

The question would be is the ROM actually brush roller or bookyman? Even on the Famicom, it can be ambiguous at times, i.e. label versus content for this pair.

It might be? I can't say for sure since I don't own one so let's leave it as "possibly" until someone here shows up with one.

And regarding Fire Dragon, you and I have different viewpoints on what's unlicensed versus pirate content, but I think even you and I could agree that it's just a pirate based on circumstantial evidence...there's NO way that INTERATIVE went out of their way to license the code of Fire Dragon from Gamtec, when they could have just borrow it for free like everything else they did.

My list of games for INTERATIVE includes stuff like Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, Mega Man, Kick Master, Robocop, Snow Bros., Super Mario Bros., Ninja Gaiden, Tiny Toons, Simpsons, just to name a few.

They collect funds from the same tiny group people. Even when they do care about their constituents, they will never bite the hand that feeds them.

I'm not saying "shadow government illuminati" stuff, I'm just saying that in all reality, if the leaders want to preserve their power then they have to play the money game.

I like that there is no other game 72 pin of fire dragon or Brush roller and they are old! And hyper rare. I have them both on my list but nbd which way it truly falls under

Oh I still want them myself, I'm just being nitpicky about the minor technicalities.

Even still, Brazil is really hard to decode since it's all a mix of white/grey/black market stuff.

  18. Also, I think some of the pirate games in Brazil are still highly collectible.

VIC for example makes their own cover art for their pirates, and their cases are amazing...same can be said for the HKGCC games as well. (and to a lesser extent, the Samurai indian games after they left Nintendo)

RIP Fire Dragon. The gameboy version is more original than the NES one. Out of curiosity, what changed your mind on it?

Every other game by INTERATIVE (NOT Interactive) is a pirated ROM, so I have no reason to believe that they went ahead and licensed Fire Dragon from Gamtec.
