This is the sketchiest part to me.  Why should one have to pay based on a theoretical appraisal instead of just settling normal fees at the end.  Especially since the appraisal is done by a marketplace which has an incentive to inflate prices for their own bottom line.  Seems like huge conflict of interests and poor buyer protection.

I'm sure some in this thread will say the onus is on the seller to be reasonably informed, but when we live in a world where thick legalese can obfuscate all sorts of misdeeds, then sometimes you need another body to regulate for the health of the whole marketplace.

At one point I heard that the sliding fee was due to insurance. It made some sense to me, especially when they were backed up 1+ years. They would have to do something to protect against a warehouse fire or some such. The insurance premiums go up with the value. I haven't seen this confirmed anywhere though, so who knows. You'd think the fee angst would be easy enough to dispel at least if it were actually insurance related.

I'm sure they are including IRAs and 401Ks.  It depends on the millennials polled, and depending on how they worded the questioning, you could have $200k in a retirement savings, but still have a $250k to pay on that $350k mortgage, which mean's your net worth is -$50k, excluding any other assets you might own.  Regardless, that example individual has "$200k" in savings (plus whatever's in their bank account.)

I know it's suppose to be a joke, but I can't stand random statistics thrown out like this.  You can imply anything if you don't give specific details.

That is only true if the house for which you hold a mortgage is worth $0.

Their mystique is mostly because they were one of the first repro makers to really go all in and make it look professional, as opposed to what some dude in his crafts room would make. This was before the big repro boom of about ten years or so ago.  If they were making their stuff a few years later, the reception would be decidedly more chilly.

It is what it is, (some) people decided they have value, so...

Good luck with the sale, Johnnyboy113.

If memory serves this particular release did receive a pretty chilly reception even back then.  Their other stuff was translations/hacks, stuff that wasn't released.

Oh god that Joel thread lmfao

Didn't someone find him on facebook and try to get him to come back a few times?

He did show back up at one point, but it was only to spam some skateboard related kickstarter he had going.  It wasn't very exciting.

The Gotcha is a 5 screws, hence why he's asking for so much on it.

What's very strange is that it has to be the prices of someone that knows very well what he has for sale, but very loosely presented as 'Nes Tapes'.

It is posted for sale in a specialty collector group.  I am sure the "Nes Tapes" is just a fun title, much like if someone made a FS thread here with that title.

  6. I've been there.  My 1st house was old and tree roots would get into the main drain out to the sewer.  If we didn't have them cut out twice a year everything from the house would backup through the floor drain in the basement, which meant we were pretty much just pooping on the floor.  It once happened when I was having a party full of people over, it went over well telling everyone they couldn't use the bathroom.  Good luck man!

I saw people getting pissy on FB saying they wouldn't have bought the game if they knew the color scheme was going to be changed. All I can say is what's the point of buying the game if you aren't going to play the damned thing, in which case the color isn't important. I'm the biggest shelf collector in the world but even this is too much stupidity for me.

The thing is marketed on "stale gum" and nostalgia.  The original mockup was definitely a pink that resembled the gum color from wax packs where the red is nothing close.  I don't really care personally, but I can understand the disappointment.  I would have preferred closer to the colors show originally.
