First of all, lots of great events and folks here at VGS.
I'll give a shoutout to:
#1 - 31-Day Video Game Music Challenges by AverageOliver98 - Awesomely hosted and fun events, and the imaginative and detailed banner/comic he made for each day were epic.
#2 - How about JamesRobot and his Videomation skillz. And of course, Casual Cart is super talented and always a treat to see his fun and impressive art around here! OptOut brings the heat in the MS-Paint category haha.
#3 - Too many! ...

In no particular order, but there are a few games that are high on my backlog.
-
DOOM(1993) - Probably a game that's been on my backlog the longest, next to mario sunshine.-
Beaten 3/3/2023 - Played through version 0.99 (original release, Shareware) on DOS, using original control scheme. First time playing DOOM past the first level. Wasn't disappointed.

-
Yoku's Island Express(PC, 2018) - I'm about 20% currently.- Beaten 1/6/23 Awesome game. Excellent and creative gameplay and storytelling. Highly recommended especially if you like something fresh, with pinball elements. Really fun and original.
-
Super High Pinball: Pinball Platformer(PC, 2020) - I've beat the demo (tough!) but enjoyed it a ton, going to try all 56 levels of the full game.- Beaten 1/1/23 Turns out there's 25 levels to roll credits on normal mode. The others are a variation of the same levels for a new mode. Review: Cleverly crafted levels with intuitive pinball physics and solid controls. It's a good game to play casually/multitask. Challenging but engaging. A few levels took me like an hour to beat first try.
- Any Ghosts 'n' Goblins game (including Ghouls 'n' Ghosts, remasters)
- Robotron 2084 (Arcade, 1982) - Get 1 million points on cabinet.
-
G-Darius (1997)at local arcade, a port, or HD remaster.- Preliminary Clear 1/6/23
- Got the HD remaster, awesome release. Going to work on it some more and see if I can get a 1CC.
-
Any point-n-click adventure, contenders: The Dig, Secret of Monkey Island, or Loom.-
Loom - Beaten 2/14/23 -
- Played the original EGA version. Gorgeous game, cool yet intuitive musical interface, great humor but also deep and interesting, and doesn't overstay its welcome. Good stuff.
-
Loom - Beaten 2/14/23 -
-
Metroid (NES) - Started 2/11/23- Probably my 3rd longest outstanding backlog game.-
Beaten 2/12/23! -
- Glad to finally beat this one. Great challenge, immersive gameplay, legendary atmosphere, a classic for sure!

Typing of the Dead (Dreamcast) - I got to the final boss once but never beat it. Fun game though would like to try again. - Super Mario Sunshine (Gamecube) - I still have a BK figurine from when the game launched haha, never owned a GC in the day but this game always intrigued me.
- Bonus - Beat more modern games/indie titles.

Kabuki: Quantum Fighter is the only game I can really definitively remember getting specifically for a birthday. I was gifted just the cart, along with an OG Game Boy with Tetris (ugh). The one who gave it to me was my friend James Brown, a scrawny white kid with red hair.
Good times.

Thanks, Merry Christmas!

Been revisiting Casiopea a lot lately. Great energetic 70s fusion, I keep coming back for those tight syncopated drums and overall jammin' musicianship.
-
Squad 51 Vs The Flying Saucers (2022) - Horizontal shmup, the story/presentation is actually pretty fun/original and can be finished in a night maybe a few hours.

Welcome back! I remember your username though I recall you had a laughing monkey or something as your avatar haha. Cheers

I remember seeing footage of a Japanese Bomberman tournament, all running on plasma HDTVs (1035i Hi-Vision), in 1993.
Found info: https://ultimatehistoryvideogames.jimdofree.com/hi-ten-bomberman
The article says the custom machines with game costed ~$200,000 each.

Last one I saw was Toy Story 3 around 2010, but that reminds me I did want to see Onward. I remember the main character had a Kreator patch (clear homage/representation) on his vest, pretty cool to see in a Pixar/Disney movie.
Of the ones I've seen I'd probably rank: Toy Story, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles. The recent Pixar stuff seems good so maybe I'll have to check them out sometime.

#39 is Gemfire

I see an 8KB SRAM chip in there that's not part of PRG or CHR, to me it seems like everything is there but they skipped the battery last minute perhaps to save costs. Re-enable the SRAM routine with game genie, wire a CR2032, and I'd imagine it'd work.
Just checked my collection I don't have Hatris, darnit haha, I was going to try it out!

Thanksgiving morning attempt:
337,200
130,400- 1

Yeah, granted people had bigger CRTs back then, so it depends.
-
Emulators, hmm. I'm going to stretch my arms/back and bring up the CRT for this occasion (luckily they're both under 14")
FYI, ~6 feet is the general accepted distance and what the manual says, but that also depends on size of TV.

This is out now on streaming (Roku, USA), saw it last night. I was a bit confused with Radcliffe portraying Weird Al when the trailer announced, but I think he did a great performance after all. It's a fun watch. If I'm right this film was originally a 2-min joke trailer made in 2010 or so, and now it's actually been made into a feature by the same production. Pretty cool haha.

Just beat Castlevania Chronicles, awesome game:

^ Nice, the intro/music from that movie always stood out to me. I probably already missed that part though, darn haha.
That reminds me when I saw House (1977, Japan) on TV a few years ago. It was almost surreal seeing it broadcast on TV, especially in the USA. I think it was on TCM and they even had an intro where they talked briefly about the film. It's definitely a cool experience catching a somewhat obscure film broadcast on regular TV. I don't even watch TV, but around halloween I do like to go down and see what films they're showing, it's like an event.

That's a Jordan Mechner game. He used rotoscoping to get the fluid animation on the sprites. For Karateka, he filmed his karate instructor performing moves. He later used that same technique filming his brother running and jumping to make Prince of Persia.
Yep, Apple II, big fan of his stuff. But at the time on NES it was all new to me. The cool part of Karateka was you could flip the floppy disk and it would play the game upside-down, a clever easter egg.
But yeah, fun thread. Multicarts are fun and somewhat forgotten about nowadays with modern flash carts. I always joked with a buddy it'd be fun to setup a flashcart like an old 999-in-1 cart or something, with half the titles poorly named and duplicates lol.
-
Haha, great thread!
My go-to game on 76-in-1 was Karateka. It played/looked like nothing else on NES and was just so odd but cool.

NBA Live 2000 is done (I think?), won the NBA Championship :
I haven't played a basketball game in forever but was pretty fun. Also I guess this marks the first N64 game I've ever considered beaten, lol. I never owned one but played it a lot back in the day with relatives.

Woohoo, reserved!
Update 10/20 - I think I got a BINGO
Across the Pond:
Shout out to the LED Famicom cartridges and Sqoon
Homegrown:
Larry and the Long Look for a Luscious Lover (KHAN Games). I remember when this was announced in like 2009 and it finally released many years later. Old PC game, especially Larry, ported to NES was a fun idea.
It Belongs In a Museum:
Drug Czar (NES, unreleased box art sketches and ink drawing)
New and Improved (Modded)
Streamboy Color (TM) lol, a portable webcam livestreaming attachment I made for Gameboy.
An old pic of it in action:
Tools of the Trade:
Olde HP Scope. The scope I've used for basic troubleshooting including game consoles/computers/controllers, and also playing Tetris. The logic analyzer in pic is a bonus, it doesn't get used a lot for gaming stuff, but was being tossed and I thought it was too cool to pass up. Atari used them in the 70s as well.
Good as New
My Virtual Boy broke one day, took it apart and worked out a quick but effective fix. I designed a bracket that eases stress on the ribbon cable and secures it. Pic of it working and current VGS pic with name:
SpoilerFresh Coat of Paint:Surprised I still have this, but ages ago when I was like 14, I had the urge to paint an NES cart silver.Oops, has to be a console or controller.Souvenir:
I got the opportunity to meet Kinuyo Yamashita (Castlevania NES composer), Yuzo Koshiro (Streets of Rage composer), and Chris Huelsbeck (Mega Turrican composer). Awesome people and they created some of my favorite video game music of all time.
What If:
"Cyborg Justice For All"
Cyborg Justice (Sega Genesis) in the vein of Metallica "...And Justice for All"
Clean as a Whistle:
Ah, my somewhat neglected 3DO covered in dust. No more! Thanks for giving me a reason to finally clean this cool system up!
Before:
Cleaned:
Glamour Shot:
"Conceited TurboGrafx"
TG16 looking at itself in the mirror thinking it's hot stuff.
Nintendo Sixty Fourrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr:
I beat NBA Live 2000 on N64 last night (criteria of thread "Win the Championship"):
I posted in the N64 thread:
Diamond in the Rough:
My first blog on VGS lol. It was a bit hard to fit the criteria but I eventually found one that fits. Billy Blazes for GBA is part of the "Rescue Heroes" series which spans over 3 games. The rest of the series I don't care for, but this particular game was enjoyable. Anywho, here's the review :
