Is Jim Halperin an investor in wata?

And Hamster man...   How do u know they were offered $250+ for a fact?

The offer is a fact but its a bit complicated.   IIRC the offer was a high grade 52 Mantle in trade - that 52 mantle being worth, and having recently been purchased for, that 250-300 range.     So its a legit offer but was trade not cash.   That said, high quality trade that could easily be liquidated into cash, so its near cash.   52 mantle might be the hottest baseball card on the market.

That's as much as I recall anyways.    I might not have the whole story.

As the years keep coming, I find that I can still remember which games in my collection have been with me since childhood. Or even if I've let some go along the way, I still remember owning them in my youth. (I think that's pretty common among everyone here)

What I've also noticed, is that I can remember games that my friends had that I didn't. Some are lifelong friends that I keep in touch with, and some I haven't spoken to since elementary school. For example, I can still remember that my first time playing Bomberman on NES was at a kid named Chris' house in 3rd grade. And that he also had Paperboy, Excitebike, and Faxanadu. I haven't seen him since 5th grade.

And it's not just one or 2 of my friends that I can remember having certain games, it's the majority. Those titles reminded me of the good times had with those friends, so I found myself gravitating towards those games when I first started collecting. I get a kick out of having friends over and them saying "Wow, I had this game." Then, rather than saying "Yeah, I know.", I just smile and say, "Let's play it."

    So how about you all?

Do you remember the games that your friends had growing up?

And did nostalgia drive you to pick them up?

What games stood out to you?

Yeah absolutely.   I didn’t own a NES growing up.   I had a friend of Japanese decent that owned a famicom and so I played gradius on a famicom before I even knew what a NES was and it totally blew me away.    It’s all I wanted to play at his house.

Another friend had a NES a little later, and he owned Tyson, excitebike, castlevania, Zelda And probably some others.

as a result those were some of the first titles I chased down and yes they very much remind me of that time.

Rockin Kats went cheap, yes. I’d expect for the time being for more obscure games like that to stay low for a bit, then jump up when we get population reports etc. Same for Uninvited.

I won the Dragon Warrior 9.6/A+ for like $2300 with BP, and I gotta say I’m thrilled. The 1HP variant in mint condition with no sun fading is very difficult to come across. My maximum was a lot higher. I only bid on DW and made a good run at Contra, but enough was enough at some point lol...

Good win, congrats!     One of the best buys in the auction I think.   Contra was mental.   I’ll have settle for my vga 90 and the cover art.

(I don’t always humblebrag, but when I do I try to make it count lol)

You got me thinking. As much as I love and would cherish any original Nes cover over a sealed game, I wonder what would be considered low end.  Maybe Taboo?  The original does exist but I think without the background behind the Sun face thing?  I think the painting was posted on NA at one point.

Taboo is super low end yeah .   Still a cover though.  Barely lol.

I dunno, I don't feel confident on it because there has been no evidence ever of a reprint from its initial mid 86 release.  If we could get those date codes id be more than happy to eat my words.  Anyone want to lose thousands of dollars for a minor piece of evidence?

I mean, I’m telling you there’s hard evidence and I’m sure wata would corroborate what I told you.   What more do you need?

There are several different variations of dk math boxes tied to production date.   If we are thinking they were only made at one point in time, that isn’t  right.   I guess it’s possible the chips were made all at once, but the boxes definitely changed over time.

If what you’re telling me is that the chips all say mid 86 to me that implies they made the chips all at once and then created boxes every time they sent out a shipment.  In other words, initial store orders weren’t enough to exhaust the chip supply on a single shipment.   Not hard to imagine since orders were low.

at the end of the day, to me me the real production date is not when the chips are made but when the game and paperwork are assembled.   If there are chips sitting around in a bin but no boxes to put them into, the product is not completely finished yet

I recall one of the very few braveheart69 PMs that ACTUALLY got a response saying that his copy had no back, implying it may be the same story with the Ultra/Konami variants.

If you have any photos of 3-Screw DK Math boards made after the 5-Screw switch then I’ll gladly make it confirmed...but I have no photos to say without a doubt it exist in a commercially standard format.

Even then, like Stadium Events I would like more than one copy floating out there. I’m also considering moving Stadium Events back down to “Possibly” or “Likely Confirmed” since it’s kind of odd that three popped up in a two year span and none have since popped up.

My old sealed sticker dk math was found by wata (x-ray?) to contain a 3 screw cart, and be a slightly later revision of the box which makes no sense but nonetheless so it was.    There had to be some made with leftover parts such as that copy.

That's right. I've had some sealed games though that suffered from water damage and had mold growing inside. Likewise, there's the battery situation. Sealed doesn't always guarantee pristine innards.

I’ll take my chances compared to used where I know the innards are beat up most of the time

Hate to break the news.....but that's not true.

Seems like every NES game was touched at least a few times on the assembly line. BARE HANDED no less.

Check out 6:47 on this video....

That’s a cool video and I remember it well.   Obviously I meant since it left the factory.

Following to the point above, at the end of the day, the labelling of pedigrees or “near enough” pedigrees shouldn’t really affect any of us except for those who wish to care about such things. Personally, I see it as a small issue compared with the over-exaggeration of the gigantic price leap in game values.

It is a small issue yes.

And to give you an example on the above, say you have two collections from new york.

You call one 'new york' and one ' big apple'.

there's lot of ways around it.

The decision on the “Carolina Collection” seems more of a short term marketing ploy/profit rather than a long term vision. Down the track, I can see several problems  relating to collections coming from Carolina. Examples:

    - what if a collector has a bigger and better stack than Dain’s?

    - what if a collector has a genuine new and one-owner “pedigree” collection?

    - what if a collector is genuinely famous like a movie star or pop star, who owns a valuable set of games?

What will they then call it? The “Carolina Collection not owned by Dain”?

Its not hard to find other names.

  11. Prime:   Kenneth’s background is coins and as I understand it there is no requirement in coins that it be anything other than a notable collection for any reason.    They are taking that approach or if you look at it from a comics POV melding the ‘collection of’ and ‘pedigree’ concepts into a single concept

I bet someone bid it up to right before the reserve to try and get someone else to bid that last bid to sell it

I think that happens automatically on the site when there is a reserve .    Same thing on heritage.    They show the star also.    The vast majority of lots have no reserve .      A couple days before auctions end if the reserve is not met it gets bid up to one increment under so that the reserve is revealed.    Basically if you see a star then discount the bid history.

Im pretty sure this is all spelled out in the standard auction terms.
