Do you think someone used the comic image as a guide and did their best approximation? They are clearly different, but also very similar.

oh there's no doubt.  At the time the game came out, Jim Lee was a hot and relatively new artist and that issue of the comic book was recent as well (within the last year or two IIRC).. it would have been impossible for them not to be aware of that cover.   WHy they did a redraw instead of just using the Jim Lee image is unclear to me, but its undeniably a redraw by a different hand.

I found several mint CIBs left over from my collection that I never sold.  Kept these because I was going to create a signed collection.  Who did the art for these two?  Any help would be great.  Thanks!

Not the same.   Compare.   The faces are one easy way to see the differences.   The comic has much more shading on the face.   There are differences everywhere though.

Wolverine is straight from Wolverine #27; artist was Jim Lee.

Silver Surfer I imagine is a similar case, though I don't know specifically which comic it's from if so.

actually, no, the Wolverine is not the art from that cover.   If you compare the drawings carefully you will see they are differences all over the drawings.   It might be easier to see with the black and white art, I'll post a link to it later.

I think it’s definitely a painting. If you look at the sumo face at the far left, you can see the canvas texture

Well there's no question about that.   Its by Tom Dubois and I've spoken to him about the piece before.

Its airbrush on illustration board rather than canvas, but same yeah, same difference.

  5. I have wata copies of Friday the 13th NES for sale.

A 9.6 white seal (cracked outer case is how it came to me from wata... its still in the heat sealed bag).   Would benefit from a $15 reholder.    $750

    A 9.4 black seal as well.   $375.

Last 9.6 black seal sold for $1080 on heritage.

I can pm pics if interested.

    thanks,
    Dan

Agreed, SE Sealed multiple has always been about 1.5x IMO.  You'll get some variation depending on condition but that's the rough rule of thumb I've pegged it at.  Every time I think they'll start to split and then it continues to stay in that range.

yes and part of it is that its a 50% increment on what is already a high base.     66k can and should buy a real nice game.    I had this 9.2 pegged at 75k, but even a 9.6 or 9.8 I see as topping out around 100k.

I always internally planned on spending about $30k for a CIB copy so I thought the sealed one would go for significantly more. I had figured the sealed premium would be at least 3x, but maybe there is a price ceiling due to the SMB sticker seal sale.

That’s not my interpretation at all.   Sealed SEs have always traded at a very low multiple to CIB.    It’s the rarest cib and rarest loose game, but there are many sealed items just as rare as a sealed SE or even rarer, so in that arena it’s not as special.   Still special just not the OMFGWTFBBQ item it is to the loose and cib guys

I think once your networth runs into the BILLIONS you're probaby done worrying about things like "overpaying". He probably takes a crap each morning on a solid gold toilet! Wipes his ass with hundo bills! 😂

Pretty sure he's only bidding on the Nintendo Playstation because he misplaced his boombox and he's got a bunch of 90's hits mix CDs he want so listen to!

Well, his net worth is supposedly under a billion if you trust the internet (I don’t when it comes to this kind of private information) but I agree with your point in that if he decided he wanted it it’s not worth his time to buy each of those individually, better to just write the check as 750k is a rounding error in his life.     But at the same time, it’s a bit of insight into his mind as a collector (or at least his mind in 2014).

This is very interesting. It will be nice to gauge how the HA crowd views store display value.

My guess is it won't attract with strength, but I'll be interested to watch also.

I saw something (on instagram maybe?) about heritage selling a few display items and mentioned it to Deniz (who's a big collector of that material) and it was news to him.

Sounds like you didn't look at the auction listings.

Sealed is an newer oval seal, and the CIB is a hangtab. Wouldn't make sense if it were the same variant.

    You're right LOL

I still think the sealed will go for more TBH.

But it will be close.   The CIB has got a shot.

You know things are getting serious when the ancillary parts of your hobby start attracting serious auction money. I know plenty of NA/VGSers have been hunting these and paying significant amounts of money for years, but these Heritage auctions pretty much guarantee that all casual buyers will be pushed out. Still, I'm glad the artists and their art are finally getting some real recognition. Hopefully they are the ones selling, rather than resellers.

I mean, it’s a frickin CDI cover, lets not lose our minds 😉 I’m sure it will go four figures but it won’t go five.

Which Castlevania will sell higher at the upcoming auction? CIB 9.4 or Sealed 9.2?

How is that even a question?   You open up a 9.2 sealed and now you’ve probably got a 9.2 box, 9.4-9.8 cart, 9.4-9.8 manual.   Meaning just taking the wrap off ‘upgrades ‘ it because now the other parts can bring up the average .

Assuming the variant is the same there should be no question.   Even if the variant is different there’s going to be a scarcity premium on the sealed

Is there any data to back this up or just speculation?  I personally wouldn't want either but I also don't think their prices would be that different either.  NS sales have done better than I've expected.

Thought I don't understand how one would have a "Sealed Game" with "No Seal".  The whole tier may as well just be called "Brand New" at that point.

I think NS sales have been weak compared to counterparts.

For example, HT NS 10 yd fight at heritage for 3-4 is by far the least any HT bb has gone for.   If I recall a flipping HT section z went for more.
