Can't you spin it to your boss that 1) python / Anaconda is free and 2) it could be useful to your job (I don't know what line of work you're in though). Most IT departments will make exceptions on a case by case basis.

Happy year of the rat my homies. Anyone doing anything cool? I went to lunch at a pretty authentic restaurant with some of my Chinese coworkers.

Nobunaga's Ambition is done. I'll do Uncharted Waters next

Your funny haha. I enjoy playing random and obscure games honestly.
Thank you for the recommendations! A few of these I played before and quite a few I have not.
Also, to explain myself, I really enjoy doing speed runs. Some games I put on a list to go back and enjoy later. Honestly, it is something I have recently taken up in the past few months. Just because I complete the game does not mean it was an easy completion haha. Some really kick my @$$.
Completing Championship pool that quickly without using save states is pretty impressive. I've beaten it once for the 2018 contest and it took about 35 hours, and I know that any future attempt would take me just as long.

Ok, now do Championship Pool

Just noticed Lunar Pool is up to 10 now. Wasn't that a 6 a few years ago?

The American dream has always been about going where the opportunities are, and it's never been easier today than anytime in human history. Think of the people who all the people who moved from Europe in the 1800s and never saw or heard from anyone in their hometowns again. Now you can facetime your relatives and tell them you just yanked your crank or crapped out a kid or whatever mundane stuff you want to share on a daily basis.
You owe it to yourself to experience a few different places and meet new people / make new friends / experience different parts of the country (or world).

So basically they took some original B/W footage and made it into color? It really does look great and with apologies for all those back in the 80s who considered it sacrilge the first attempts(?) at colorizing b/w movies/films/etc I honestly love colorized films/photos provided they did a good job. It just really makes the era truly come to life in a way that just a few decades ago nobody could've ever dreamed possible (true back in the day you would manually "color tint" film but that's nowhere near the same). One of my main hopes for the 2020s is that technology will advance that no longer will you have to go through a painstakingly manual process to make b/w into color...you can use a special computer program/converter or whatnot to automatically colorize it and do a good job at it. Imagine what the old b/w TV shows will be like in full color!
For example, you really think Times Square in the 40s done in b/w could really do it justice?
That's a vast understatement of the amount of work put into the movie by a huge team of professionals that Peter Jackson hired.
I saw it in the theaters, and after the movie, there was a 20 minutes behind the scenes segment that showed some of the technology needed to get the old videos cleaned (frame by frame) and put at the proper frame rate and then colorized, and then all the audio work. I hope that segment got added to the Blu-Ray as an extra.

Funny you should mention that, right now I am trying to beat it with a self imposed handicap of having to invade Spain right away on scenario 3. Its pretty tough though so no guarantees Ill finish it.
I'm doing the whole Koei block, so I'll finish it either for the contest or not

I'll commit to playing the Koei block + Shingen next year. After that, whatever RPGs I have time for.

What I mean is on the national/executive phase, the cumulative food you can distribute is harvested/collected in november so then on the December phase you can distribute it. So if I understand correctly using the command option the supply base thing gives you overall more food and the tax option gives you overall more gold? Does this negatively affect the specific citys food/money?
Also do you know how the game calculates how many recruits you are allowed to recruit?
Ive gotten more familiar with the game and my new strategy is to cripple Prussia and Austria to the point that they wont invade me, conquer Denmark and then direct all my resources to taking Britain, because they really make the amphibious invasions difficult in this game.
I wouldn't use the tax option since it really pisses the cities off. Yeah, make Paris and a few other interior cities that you don't need to defend be supply bases and don't worry if they starve. There's also an option to toggle food sufficiency between low and high and I always make it low. Fuck em
I'm not sure about the recruits. It must be a factor of population and a few other things relating to general happiness of the city (e.g. food sufficiency).
I typically start by making alliances immediately with Spain and Turkey if possible, rolling up the Scandinavian countries, then Prussia, then Austria, then Russia. Once is Russia is gone, it's all downhill as you work on Turkey, then Spain, then finally Britain (which will be starving and in poor shape after they can't import from Russia anymore). This is for scenario 4, however. I'm sure it's a lot tougher starting on 1.

Ah I see. Another noob question:: Ive captured everywhere except Russia, Spain, and Britain but suddenly the game stopped giving me food in November. Do you know how to fix this?
It's kind of hard to diagnose without more specifics. Are you talking about the quarterly executive phases? You can make territories supply bases under the Command option. Otherwise that seems odd.. Like every city got no food in November? Remember the city consumes food every month too.
I'd try to make an alliance with Spain, even if you have to give a massive amount of gold, and take out Russia. Then a huge amount of troops and resources can be moved to Western Europe. It's kind of like a reverse Schlieffen plan except you're France instead of Germany

Do you know L'Empereur well? Im playing scenario 1 and it says the victory condition is to capture 9 cities but I have captured 11 and it hasn't said I won yet, although I did get promoted to emperor about halfway through my run.
The game won't "end" until you conquer all of Europe.

sorry to pull a Jim Anchower here, since it's been a long time since I rapped at ya, but shit's been crazy this month. Anyway, Romance of the Three Kingdoms 2 is done, and I'll do my best to finish Shingen before the end of the year.

Every time I see Wata Games I think of the Bill Burr podcast clip on YT with Granny F'in Wata (Wataaaaaah)!

Looks like we hit another plateau here, but I'm good to finish up the Koei block with RotTK2 and also will do Shingen the Ruler once I'm back from vacation next week.

One of my friends passed all her actuary tests before her senior year of college. So if you're a genius, I'd say just try to take it and see! You might pass w your basic knowledge of stat and a ti 84.
You know, that's a tricky place to be in since you're credentialed but also have no work experience. I'm sure she'll find something but it's a bit of a tough sell unless you're willing to eat sh*t for a couple of years just to rebalance your work history and number of exams passed.

Do you have any tips for studying for exams P and FM?
I was thinking about making a transition to being an actuary.
The early exams are just testing whether you have the mathematical aptitude or not. If you can grok probability distributions and crap like variance, skewness, kurtosis etc. you should be fine. If you PM me I'd love to chat with a burgeoning actuary!

I will finish Bandit Kings soon.
One another note, should we create a subforum for the contest threads?

1918 must have been the worst year of the 20th century by far. Casualties in WW1 spiked again after the war became more mobile again on the Western Front, Russia was a total mess, most of the rest of the world wasn't much better, and then 3-5% of the population dies from the Spanish flu.
