  2. Did a PlayAsia order and decided to pad it out with some stuff from their retro section that was on sale. I’ve always wanted to get a tin can GB release and now I have one. Also was glad that Ghost Blade got a reprint, I had missed that one in the first wave.

Also got Axiom Verge 1 & 2 with the strategy guide in from LRG, and walked into Best Buy for Xenoblade 3 on release date because I could not wait to start playing.

Had some nice bundle deals on GB games on Mercari and eBay and was able to add these.

Lastly, pulled the trigger on a few items that were on my wantlist. The 3DS guide is in bad shape but for just shy of $15 it was worth it to finally get this uncommon bonus issue into my set 🙂

  3. Someone on Reddit reached out to me about this box he found in an old drawer, he saw I had it in my wantlist and asked if I wanted to buy. I offered $500 and he said it was on eBay for auction starting at $865 so he'd get back to me if no one bids. I decided I didn't want to chase that price so I patiently waited a week to see where it would end and it ended without any bids. So I messaged him again asking if he was still open to offers and he showed me a screenshot of someone offering him $650 on eBay. So I offered $700 and he accepted and asked if I would pay for shipping and I said "I thought $700 would include shipping but sure why not? How about $710 to cover priority mail?" And that's the story of how I got this box for $710. Then I found someone on Mercari with the cart and manual asking $200 and I talked him down to $170 so altogether a little less than $900 to put this together.

I wasn't really wanting to spend that much but I know these opportunities don't come often and I am very sentimental about this game. Feels good to have it back and especially with such a clean box.

Only question now is, does anyone know what other inserts this is supposed to have? There must have been at least a consumer precautions booklet...

It's good work, but I would have diluted the bleach to maybe 1 part bleach, 4 parts water.  You were on a white section, so that probably helped, but I would have definitely tried stepped up.  Regardless, that's a nice fix.

    Ninja Boy 2?

    Good advice!

    And yes.

I was going to suggest bleach.... but maybe you're right. 😉

Turns out I'm too stubborn. I was reading an online guide about all the different types of paper damage and it said that if you see reddish-brown stain with the paper being slightly raised / puffy then it's likely mold and can be removed with bleach. So I first tested applying straight-up bleach with a q-tip to some cheaper boxes (4-in-1 Fun Pak 1 and 2) just to be sure that the bleach wasn't going to ruin the cardboard and then took a deep breath (not of the bleach, that would be terrible) and very gently went about cleaning this box and blotting with a tissue after so as not to leave the bleach sitting there. Also I made sure to not put too much bleach on the q-tip and dab it to remove excess before applying. It took 4 passes and there's still a trace of it but here's how it looks now:

It's still noticeable but far less than before!

@MiamiSlice What did you do when you ironed?  Did you happen to spray on the iron a bit too generously or overdid it on the steam to where you bubbled/rippled up the outer (art) layer of the box?  Ironing done right (not getting it too wet) does miracles in improvement with boxes short of fixing the impossible (creases to outright rips.)  Curls, non creased bends, waviness, gravity cave in sinking if stored on its back/front can be cured amazingly well.  But, if you go too much with the spritz of water or overkill on the steam it'll bubble or crinkle crepe the paper.

    Yep, I really screwed up:

I have this ironing pad that I've used in the past without issue but I guess I finally went over the threshold on the steam or heat or something and well here we are. After this I used a t-shirt instead which is what I should have done from the start =/

Worst part is when I moisten it it looks fine but them it dries and it's back like this. Is there some way to treat it so it looks nice again? If not I will live with it of course.

  8. Ordered Xenoblade 3 and Unraveled Two for pickup at Best Buy. I guess it was silly to fomo trying to get Unraveled Two from Canada when it was appearing sold out here!

Also the Nintendo online store has removed its listing for the Xenoblade 3 CE. I’m really not happy about that.

  9. A few recent hauls!

    1x4Fbvk.jpg

Got these strategy guides at a local game store. I overpaid a bit but that's what I get for not taking the time to check prices!

Another Pac Man Party sealed with bonus neck strap. Also a brand new Tomato Adventure from Play-Asia.

    ELxeqRy.jpg

A few World of Nintendo trays I pulled from a recent haul.

Also pulled and restored this from the same haul, it's an ALS Industries Videostax VGC-50 Entertainment Center for housing either an Atari 2600 + 24 carts or a NES + 12 carts. It's a really cool set, unfortunately I don't have a use for it, but I am going to hold onto it for a while.

Got these in a trade, been waiting a while to finally land the Tiki Amiibo, I think this completes my Fire Emblem set. Also I don't usually pick up loose DS games but I'm willing to make an exception and try to complete these later.

And here's the rest of the pickups. Until next time!

  10. Today was a cleaning day! First up is a sealed Epic Mickey clicker controller with sticker residue all around, this is VGS Restoration Shop so you shouldn't mind seeing some gross stuff, but I'll put these in a spoiler tag for you:

For this one I just put some blotches of Bestine on a paper towel and wiped the box. I've found that when I'm cleaning plastic or a sturdy box I don't even have to be gentle, I don't need to use a q-tip, I can just use a paper towel with a generous amount of Bestine and the residue comes off like I'm just wiping dust. It's really easy. Here's the final result:

Second is this ALS Industries Videostax VGC-50 "Entertainment Center," no idea what year this is from, 1990 maybe? It was filthy, check this out:

I took out the plastic trays and washed them with dawn soap + water, then scrubbed with a soft brush to get all the dust and grime out:

    apz792N.jpg

Then the main part and the dust cover I used a combination of clorox wipes and alcohol to scrub every surface, it took a while but it was worth it. I even used a toothpick + alcohol to get into one crevice that was hard to reach.

    The end result:

It's a really cool set, it can hold an NES or Atari 2600, has a compartment for accessories and then the back has a slot that can hold 24 Atari carts or 12 NES carts (with the black insert). Unfortunately I have no use for it but I'm going to hold onto it for a while.
