I think the last time I tried it a few months ago I got to Death and just couldn’t get past him. Then I finally gave up.

Holy Water can cheese him. Just pump it onto the platform where he appears.

Otherwise, the boomerang works well. Work the Axe Knights in the hallway to get the triple shot. In Death's chamber, throw three in the air towards his platform, then get to the opposite one. Dodge his scythes and keep the boomerangs going in a steady rhythm so that he's constantly getting hit and you'll get him.

  2. My current mattress is lumpier than homemade mashed potatoes. I need a new one, and I live near several stores that have a good selection.

What's everyone sleeping/gaming/doin' the wild thing on?

Any opinions on innerspring vs memory foam vs those hybrid spring/foam jobs? I've heard some memory foam gets rather warm, but my current pillow is memory foam and I don't mind that.

Is Gun-Nac really that good? It’s one of the few I’ve played from that genre.

It's very good. A tad easy on the default, though.

Damn you put Gun-Nac and Zanac over Recca?

    I'm a sucker for Compile.

I don't know if I listed them in any particular order. I go back and forth, depending on my mood. Recca is the most intense in places, but Zanac is an endurance meatgrinder that really separates the men from the boys.

I'd also toss in Konami's shooters like Gradius II, Life Force and Crisis Force. Konami always struggled with slow-down, though. Especially in the original Gradius. Level five is almost unplayable.

Uchuu Keibitai by HAL is another great looking shooter.

Some flawed shooters I still like are Exed Exes, B-Wings, and Argus. I also like Super Xevious for its puzzle elements (you have to solve a certain condition to progress) and Super Star Force, even though I have no idea what I'm doing in that game.

  4. One of the threads on the other forum struck me, about games that pushed the limits of NES hardware.

    My choices are:

    Recca

    Nuff said

    Zanac

For the AI and almost no slowdown despite sprite overload (only encountered a little bit on level 12, when the AI was desperate to murder me.)

    Batman Return of the Joker

    Fantastic graphics.

    Any others?

  5. I started playing through the original Legend of Zelda (NES) for like the first time in, Jesus, twenty years? Back in the day I had the Official Nintendo Player's Guide, which helped a little (it had the full map and good hints), but the last dungeon was still tricky.

Need to explore more Zelda games. Any suggestions? Poll?

Anyway, post your Zelda memories here, as well as talk about the newest games.
