The Lara Croft Collection for Switch will be available this week for preorder.

But MUCH MORE IMPORTANTLY, they have also announced that the HD remaster for TR I-III is also coming to LRG.  That is amazing news.  Now they just need to announce a physical version of the Dark Forces remaster.

Super cool! Also, the Evercade is releasing the first three Tomb Raider games in one cartridge. It will be the original PS1 version. Does anyone know if the HD remaster includes the ability to go back to the original PS1 graphics?

  2. Just a heads-up that SRG is selling their stock of Inscryption on ebay right now. They're asking $85 for the PS5 and Switch editions, which is significantly less than what you'll find from other sellers. That said, it does NOT include the collector's box or extras. In fact they note --

This edition does not include any extra items such as manual or cards

That said, still a great way to get a physical copy of the game.

I still haven't gotten burned out on the Guitar Hero/Rock Band games since getting back into them, so I picked up a few more.  The three PS2 games are all games I have on PS3, but I got them to play for the "Beat the PS2 Library" thread.  Fortunately, they were pretty cheap.  I never heard of Rock Revolution until recently.  Amazing, it was an attempt to start a ANOTHER franchise of instrument/band rhythm games.  Unsurprisingly, this one didn't do too well since it came out around the time of market saturation and loss of interest in the genre.  But it was cheap, and there are a hand full of good songs on the set list, so I will try it out.

    Favorite game in the series?

Very nice so far -- although we're only on episode 3. Apparently they have decadal documentaries for 60s -- 2010s. While the documentary is not mind-blowing, it's certainly interesting and entertaining enough to keep you watching.

Figured I’d quote you since I have another update anyway for this. With the research I did on this person finding the old account finding YouTube videos and combined with another seller who was being scammed at the same time both of our negative feedbacks were removed and this guy was removed from Ebay. Of course, since he came back once already as far as I know, God only knows how many times he’s had different accounts to do this to people, i’m sure he’ll be at it again at some point. If this person tries to file chargebacks with his credit card company, that’s when I’ll have several Law enforcement agencies right on him.

Keep us updated. I had someone steal my identity once -- basically stole my credit card and started writing checks in my name.  When I spoke to law enforcement (this is in MA) they were nice, but basically said "so, did your credit card reverse the charges?" to which I said yes. They said "well, believe it or not, they're probably not going to care and will not be helpful in our investigation because to them, those thousands of dollars are small potatoes." They basically said, if they can catch the guy red-handed, they could charge him with writing a false check but that's about it.

Yep all about money. eBay said I have nothing to worry about but they have the case open still just to see if they will refund him or not , refund coming from them as they said. I told them that they shouldn’t refund him and should investigate this further because it’s happening to other sellers. I’d love to know what you guys think on this… If they clear my account and refund him from their end should I just leave it alone or do you think I should take this further with law enforcement? If eBay goes against me somehow, after telling me 5 times they guarantee my account is fine and no payment will be owed by me, I definitely will pursue this with law enforcement 100%

I don't think law enforcement will be able to help. What I do think you could do is take them to small claims court. That's about the only refuge for people who are not rich. You could always hire a lawyer, but most lawyers will not be interested in something so small -- which is to say, if it's "only" a few thousand dollars (a lot of money for most of us), it's probably not worth a lawyer's time. Not to mention ebay has a slew of layers. But again, small claims court is the average Joe/Jane's best friend.

I started playing Balatro, which is the first roguelike deckbuilder I've been able to get into. I can't tell if I like this genre yet or if it just dishes out a dopamine explosion when all the right cards connect like a loot explosion in an ARPG and it's just one of those sneaky addiction things.

I've heard nothing but amazing things about the game. That said, not sure it's my type of game. Does it have a story/campaign?

  8. The video game industry is booming. Why are there so many layoffs?

    A great question!

    https://theconversation.com/the-video-game-industry-is-booming-why-are-there-so-many-layoffs-222685

The video game industry had a banner year in 2023, with critically acclaimed blockbuster titles selling millions of copies. Yet, it was also a year of layoffs with 10,500 game makers losing their jobs. And with 5,900 reported layoffs in January alone, 2024 will likely surpass the previous year’s numbers.

If the industry is booming, why are there so many layoffs? Who is benefitting? Who stands to lose? And what can we do about it?

There’s an easy answer to the question of who benefits from layoffs — it’s shareholders. Many of the largest layoffs have come in the wake of corporate takeovers. Some companies explicitly point to improving profit margins as their impetus.

You're welcome to read the rest of the article, but the two lines above are basically it.

    https://www.gamesradar.com/games/after-at-least-1400-layoffs-7-studios-closed-and-29-games-canceled-embracer-ceo-admits-i-deserve-a-lot-of-criticism/

Amid an ongoing period of unprecedented volatility in the video game industry, Embracer laid off 1,400 employees, shuttered seven studios, and canceled 29 games over the course of about nine months in 2023.

[CEO Lars Wingefors] "As a leader and an owner, sometimes you need to take the blame and you need to be humble about if you've made mistakes and if you could have done something differently...I'm sure I deserve a lot of criticism, but I don't think my team or companies deserve all the criticism. I could take a lot of that blame myself. But ultimately I need to believe in the mission we set out and that is still valid, and we are now enabling that by doing this [new] structure."

Yeah, typical CEO. They always have golden parachutes anyway -- so even if a company goes down, people lose their jobs and wonder how they will pay rent, these CEOs just quietly take in some millions of dollars and call it quits. Apparently the CEO of Activision earned over $77,000 PER HOUR --

    https://www.nme.com/news/gaming-news/activisions-bobby-kotick-is-the-second-highest-paid-ceo-in-gaming-3137849

Honestly, with AI becoming what it is, I'm wondering if these companies are basically waiting for this scenario --

1)Purchase and have a ton of well known IPs
2)Use powerful AI that can create, debug, and make games. There will be some limited human oversight of course.
3)Since the vast majority of people will be replaced by AI, it's time to make bank!
    4)Repeat steps above.

Embracer moving people around, now LRG is a bunch of Hobbitses

Haha, nope, LRG is now actually coffee stains 😁

    https://embracer.com/releases/embracer-group-announces-its-intention-to-transform-into-three-standalone-publicly-listed-entities-at-nasdaq-stockholm/

"Coffee Stain & Friends”, a diverse gaming entity with a dual focus on indie and A/AA premium and free-to-play games for PC/console and mobile, with a high degree of recurring revenues.

Nothing says "marketing" like uh, being "promoted" to coffee stain & friends
