I’m gonna be bumping this thread every once in a while with recent pickups. Hopefully we get more traffic that way. The other console specific threads are laughing at us.
Picked up Mega Man X4 a few weeks ago. Loving it. Classic Mega Man stuff.
Does anybody know why Mega Man 8 is so much more expensive than X4? I feel like they must have received a similar production run. What’s the deal?

I just realized that I preordered two copies of the Collector’s Edition, lol. I still haven’t seen any new postings for it yet.
Uhhhh…. Can I have one…?

Later Saturn games started using thinner paper for manual covers as a cost saving measure. It seems to be a crapshoot which ones this was done for. I've owned my copies of Shining Force III and Panzer Dragoon Saga for a very long time and they are like yours. Shining Force III has the older card style cover for it's manual, while Panzer Dragoon Saga has the thinner cheaper manual cover. Other later Saturn games that have this thinner paper style manual in my collection are as follows:
- Burning Rangers
- House of the Dead
- Sonic R
- Sega Touring Car Championship
- Quake
- Duke Nukem 3D.
I've had these games for well over a decade, others like Sonic R I got new back in 1997 so it's definitely not a reproduction. The trend seems to start with games released in mid to late 1997 and there's no real consistency to it. My guess is either different printing plants or just whatever paper they had to print with.
Great information, man. I appreciate you. That’s what I love about this place, it’s full of knowledgeable people like you. Cheers!

If you own both Shining Force III and Panzer Dragoon Saga can you compare the manuals for me?
Both of these games are among the last released for the Saturn and they were both published by Sega so you’d think the manuals would be of a similar quality.
But when I compare these manuals I notice that SFIII has a stiffer cover and back cover than PDS. The PDS manual cover/back cover is the same paper as the interior pages. I’m worried that one of these is a reproduction.
If you guys have time will you check your manuals for me?
Follow up question:How prevalent are reproduction manuals? Do you come across them very often?

Not mine. Never seen this banner come up in box. Plus it has the “be prepared to compete” ribbon banner which is hard to find. This banner was used during the Super Star Fox Weekend competition—very cool!

The other thing the SNES has in its favor is that it was a combatant in the only console war that really mattered. That bloody conflict was fought endlessly in the playgrounds and hearts of an entire generation.
….lest we forget…

Yeah, in terms of general collecting fervour, I think if SNES was ever gonna have its time I think it's been and gone, frankly. Even at the height of SNES collecting in like the mid 2010's NES was still the main draw for most collectors, and now N64 has risen up to give the NES a run for its money, Super Nintendo is kinda an also ran at this point.
Long-term, I don't see much changing, we've already seen where the money is going, at least, so yeah NES, N64, SNES looks like it.
I think what we’re seeing with the N64 will be short lived. The SNES has staying power because it’s library has aged so well. The N64 on the other hand…

I think people are constantly leaving and entering the Saturn collectors market. If at any given time more are leaving than entering, then prices go down.
My guess of the problem with Saturn collecting is some discs are beginning to decompose. I think this discourages some people, they may want to sell their games off while they are still working. Meanwhile other collectors see a high value game that they’ve been dying to get for 20-30% off and they dive deeper.
I have a few Saturn games, but I have no real interest in buying anything for this system really. I may just go for one of those Terraonion optical drive emulators for Saturn.
Would you assume that Saturn games are more likely to experience bit rot then other games? Sega CD, PlayStation, Dreamcast, GameCube?

Seems I was priced out on a few Saturn titles overnight. But I can never trust Saturn prices to be consistent. I feel like the Saturn market jumps around more than other consoles.

Any opinions on why the price of Mountain Bike Rally/Speed Race has stayed stagnant while other SNES games have jumped?
People on eBay are trying to make it a $2K game (cart only) but the market seems to have it priced closer to $1K—which is where it’s been for years it seems.

Anybody play Dark Savior or Enemy Zero? They both look interesting, but if they aren't worth the price tag I'd be relieved.
I’m also curious about Dark Savior.

Can someone explain the love for Virtua Fighter 2? It often makes people’s top 10 list for Saturn games.
WHY? It’s clunky, floaty, and only has two attack buttons.
What am I missing???

I know that “in the wild” scores are few and far between these days, but I’m sure most of us have experienced the giddy satisfaction of finding uncommon and expensive games out in the real world.
For me it was Pocky and Rocky on SNES. Nothing too crazy but I’d never even heard of that game when I first found it at a garage sale. At the time it was only a $40 title but it was definitely on the rare side. What’s funny is I actually found 2 in the same month.
What uncommon games have you found in the wild?

Now if it was just one woman and she was saying “no” to unwanted advances and there was someone else there saying “hey back off, she said no” and then later on we found out that something happened, that second person’s testimony would add a lot of strength to what the woman was claiming.
Luckily for women, the rapist code mandates that a rapist operate under the scrutiny of at least one witness.

Horrible news. I was only peripherally aware of byuu/Near, but of course we’re all familiar with their work.
It was big news when byuu’s SNES collection went up for sale. I believe it was (name redacted) from NA who purchased the collection. From what I remember byuu even let (name redacted) spend the night at their house while he cataloged and packed it all up.
EDIT: removed the member name just in case they don’t want to be brought into this conversation

Father’s Day just passed so I thought this might be a fun topic. Ever get any great advice from your dad? Are you a dad yourself? What’s some good advice you’ve given your kids?
My dad told me that hate will always hurt you more than the object of that hate. I think about that every time I’m tempted to hold a grudge.

Wouldn't you be tripleting? I thought you had two of those for some reason.
Haha no, I don’t have the room for two of those monstrosities. Crabmaster2000 had (has?) two, if I remember right.

Paying a fair price for House of the Dead, Saturn Bomberman, and Burning Rangers
No feedback here but I’m an NA veteran with several positive feedback transactions with a few of the knuckleheads on this site. Let’s make a deal!

Do you know if there were any differences between the PS1 and Saturn versions of X4?
