Re: Dragon Slayer I, it's mainly that I'm interested in playing through the Game Boy's first 100 releases or so, as a kind of informal project, so it'd come up in that context. And the game's reputation sort of intrigues me, since I've often enjoyed games that others deemed unplayable...

I own this one.  I've found enjoyment in quite a few games that are generally considered to be terrible, but not this one.  I admit I didn't give it much of a chance, but I think it might be one of the most tedious games I've ever played.

I have no shame in saying this is my least favorite GB game so far in the contest, and perhaps my least favorite of all the GB games I've played in the last year, with the exception of true crap like Pit-Fighter or Escape from Camp Deadly. That said, here is my only entry. I won't subject myself to any more of this one!

Would you happen to have another picture that also includes your user name written or typed on a piece of paper?

    [Old picture]

Finally cleared stage 6 without continues. I've also played through the rest with continues and stage 9 and 10 seem nearly impossible without a lot of luck. Has anyone figured out what's the difference between the cars? They all feel the same to me.

Did you do that on or after January 1?  If so, you could post about it here.

  5. Hello and welcome to the fifth round of the Game Boy Weekly Contest!  This week's game is Dead Heat Scramble.

    Rules:

    - Play until you beat the game or Game Over

    -You may choose any car

    -Highest score wins

-Be careful!  The preset High Scores are pretty high (lowest is 600,000).  If your score is below that, I'd recommend pausing your game right before the timer runs out to get your score.  If you don't, you'll only have a couple seconds to take your picture.

-If you pause the game to get your score, you may round it up to the nearest thousand.

-You have until 11:00 PM EST on Sunday, January 5, 2020 to submit your score.

Haha I tied @koifish but was too lazy to post my update cause it was only 1000 points higher.  😄

The only way I found to boost my score was to grind enemies during boss battles.  It didn't seem interesting enough to bother though.  The game itself was fun!

Which enemies?  I didn't notice any of the enemies giving points during the boss battles.  It seemed like you only got points for hitting the bosses.

I'm having trouble with photographing the score on Very Hard while still proving that I only have one miss. When the game is paused, your miss count isn't displayed, and when the game isn't paused, you can very easily either 1) get another miss, at which point it looks suspect that you have more than one miss, or 2) you might accidentally get more points just from the trampoline sitting in the leftmost position.

I'm troubled about this currently because my current best is 308 in very hard mode, but I didn't really have any way to take a picture that proved not only that I had 308, but that it was my first miss as well. @Red, what do you suggest we do?

You can take the picture while it's paused.  I'm just going to have to rely on the participants to take their picture after their first miss.

Question: Once we get a miss on Very Hard mode, can we start our next run on Very Hard, or do we have to Start the whole thing over on Hard?

You don't have to start the whole thing over.  Once you get a miss on Very Hard mode, you should start your next attempt on Very Hard and add the 1000 points you already earned playing in Hard mode.  I'll add clarification to the rules.

Also, I'm sorry, but I just realized it wasn't with my score in the image. Hopefully you'll believe that a game that's more obscure like this one will not have very many score photos like this one, particularly ones on a DMG.

It's okay.  Just try to remember to include it next time.

I'm actually glad to see that someone is sticking with original hardware for these contests!  If it wouldn't have killed participation, I would have made that a requirement.

You expect me to play games from my (near) complete set?

     Ok.

Seriously, though, I'll see what I can do.  Do you have to beat these titles, or just show your best scores, cause I suck at games.

Nope, you won't have to beat any of them to participate.

I'm in. SML will be interesting because you can easily cheese your way to 999999 points. Is it a low-score contest?

High score, but I have a rule set that will prevent that from being a problem.
