Shadowfox has created actual GameGear cases over at customgamecases.com.  I used modified versions of his Game Boy cases from the same site.  I modified my GB cases long before he developed his GG cases and I haven't gotten around to upgrading.  His cases aren't cheap, but they are very high quality.  Same goes for his other cases.  All are excellent quality.

So, I've decided that a good way to collect GG games is to collect cart and manual and use these custom cases. They're expensive, but I figure they're still cheaper than the original boxes. These are made to fit manuals as well, right?

EDIT: Never mind. Somehow didn't see image showing manual and cart fitting in case.

    Inside.

Again, these are the Game Boy cases from customgamecases.com.  The circled red areas are the parts I cut out.  Afterwards, I added the foam to hold the game in.  You would need to cut out different plastic in a DS case, but the idea is the same.  The foam is purely optional if you don't want the game moving around.

Looks very nice. Where did you get the foam?

There is one other option I forgot to mention.  As I said, I put my GG games in modified versions of the Game Boy cases from customgamecases.com.  However, you could just find old Nintendo DS cases and modify those as well.  All you have to do is cut out some of the plastic on the inside.  Those cases take the exact same size art as the before mentioned Game Boy cases, so you should be able to find some of the artwork.  Those cases won't hold manuals, but they do look good on a shelf.

Oh that sounds nice. Maybe I'll give that a shot with a spare DS case.

Can you just cut out the prong things in the cassette holder to make room? I think you have to do that for GB games anyways. It’s been awhile since I have put mine in cassette holders.

edit: yeah game gear games are just slightly to big just tried one

yeah its a real shame. I have no idea how i'm going to store them. maybe ill just toss them in a plastic container.

Yeah, the price is what really gets me there. If I were to buy cases for every single game then I'd be spending almost $1000. I will admit they look quite nice though. Maybe I'll keep looking for now, and possibly come back to that if I can't find another option. Thanks.

I've seen this done with GameBoy games many times, but never with Game Gear.  There are several threads at The Cover Project dedicated to GB artwork for those types of cases.  I'm not sure how the GG games would fit.  They are just slightly too big and that's probably why you aren't finding artwork either.

Ah, that's irritating. Any suggestions for storage then?

  7. Game Gear is the only Sega system I have interest in, and although I'm very much a CIB collector, I decided to go loose for this system to save myself some trouble and a lot of money. I really like the idea of storing them in cassette cases with custom art (and I've seen photos of this working), but I'm having trouble working a few things out:

    1. I can't find a suitable cassette case that fits GG cartridges. Anyone have links to some that work?

    2. I collect NA games, so any game I put in these cases would be North American. I'm having trouble finding a template for Game Gear games (specifically for cassette games. I figured that wouldn't be too hard to find since the GameBoy had them, but guess I was wrong).

    3. This one is just a bonus, but would a Codemasters title fit in one of these cassette cases?

Thanks, please let me know if you've got answers to any of these.

  8. I’m a serious collector for the Mattel Aquarius. I have a full US set, working on the worldwide games/software (cartridges) which are each anywhere from $250 to $450 a piece complete in box (there’s 5 Europe exclusive, have my first in the mail which I paid $330 for) I have a boxed 4-Color Printer which to my knowledge I’ve only seen 5-6 of them. I also have 3 Aquarius-related books which all took me years to find. I have 10 cassettes that are each also pretty difficult to find (not as hard as the European carts though or the 4-Color Printer though). I only need the 4 more carts though and I’ve got a full worldwide set. It’ll probably take me until 2024 to get all four though.

I'm currently collecting Japanese N64 games myself, here in Taiwan they are cheap and plentiful!

Right now I'm targeting the exclusives, I've got 29 to go. After that I may go for the fullset, who knows!

One thing I noticed about your list, you seem to be missing one of the Bombermans? There are 4 bomberman games on Japanese N64, I count 3 on your list.

Excellent collection! Which bomberman am I missing? I’ll add it. After I get somewhat far into the Sega Game Gear US CIB set, I’m going to start JP N64 CIB as well, so I had this list prepared.

  10. I’m always working on full sets. The main/favorite one I’m working on at the moment is Mattel Aquarius. I already have a full US set, but I’m working on worldwide as well. I just picked up a copy of Melody Chase CIB, so that brings me to 4 more carts for the full set (extended basic, space speller, chess, and zero-in). I’m also casually working on Tapwave Zodiac. Now, for the systems that may be considered a little more well known, I’m working on a full Odyssey 2 set as well, which I hope to have done by the end of 2020, which I’m thinking is very reasonable as long as a Power Lords comes up for sale. The only other set I’m working on currently other than that is CIB US Game Gear. I’m taking my time with that one though, trying to get the really expensive titles like Mega Man and Rise Of The Robots done first before commons. That probably won’t be done for a few more years. Oh, it’s also worth mentioning I only collect CIB.

Great list! I am slowly collecting jpn 64 exclusives, would love to have that side covered. Been distracted by other shiny things though.

Edit: also what about 64dd games? Would that merit a separate thread or would a sublist here be appropriate?

Very nice.  I'm considering going for the complete N64 list and considering how short it is, I've considered collecting some Japanese stuff, coz why not.  Anyway, you mind putting an asterisk by the ones that are exclusives?  I know this info is readily available, but it's nice to have it with any given regional list.  Thanks.

    Incoming Update!

Titles exclusive to Japan have now been marked with an asterisk, and a small list of Nintendo 64DD titles (10 Total) are both added to the list. Next update will include consoles, controllers, and accessories released in Japan.

I can add 64DD games, no problem.

Yeah I can try to do that.
