My first life I died on Rocksteady in the 1st stage, somewhere around 40,000. Final death came in the 3rd level BeBop fight. I swear I was much better at this game when I was 10. Hahahaha

I'll give it another shot later this week.

  2. I'm a huge Sega guy, the Genesis is my favorite console, but I have never been into the Sonic the Hedgehog games. I appreciate them as quality platformers that had a major influence on the genre and whatnot, but I just don't particularly care to play them. To this day, the only Sonic game that I enjoy at all is Sonic Spinball, and everyone says I'm crazy for liking that game. hahahaha

Director's Cut didn't initially add dual shock.  That was added later as a separate version of the DC.

Ah, well that was the one I ended up getting back in the day, fortunately for me then. Was never a fan of the PS d-pad, so dual shock all the way.

what if you use a gaming monitor intended for pc gaming? are those any better for using consoles such as an avs concerning input lag?

I have no experience using one with an AVS, but in theory, the lag should be significantly lower than that of a TV which isn't optimized for gaming. I say this because modern televisions have numerous settings intended for watching movies and live action television which a gaming monitor does not have. That's not to say that you can't adjust most televisions to optimize them as good as you can for gaming, but those interpolation features meant to make live sports look smoother and adjust for the different FPS of movies on film vs live television wouldn't even come into play with a gaming monitor, and these settings are usually at least partially responsible for gaming lag.

I also use a Samsung 4k tv (I forget the exact model name, but it's a 55in QLED model about 2 years old) with my Mega SG, and lag has not been an issue for me. You mentioned that you have game mode on, so that's good. There are a number of picture settings that you can adjust which may help. Now, I can't confirm if your model has the same settings options as mine, but I'll go over what I use just in case.

Go to picture settings in the menu and enter the expert settings. If you scroll down, you may see options for "digital clean view" and "auto motion plus settings." If you have those options, turn them completely off. These add interpolation and can contribute to the "soap opera effect."

Check the model number of your set and look on sites such as AVForums, cnet, Rtings, Tom's Guide for additional help with the picture settings. One or more of these sites likely has the optimal settings or answers to any questions you have about the set.

Additionally, what controller are you using? I use the 8bitdo M30 2.4g controller, but they also make a bluetooth model which has significantly more lag.

Perhaps this is contributing to your issue? Have you tried using a standard wired Genesis controller to see if that helps?

  6. 1-3 on Playstation and Code Veronica for the Dreamcast are all awesome games. I prefer the "director's cut" of the first game that let's you use the dual shock. I went back and played through RE2 a few months back for the first time in years, and it was as great as I remembered.

Even though RE4 is now considered to be this amazing game that everyone on the internet coos over nowadays, I've just always thought it was a slog to get through. I didn't care for the gameplay changes, and the game works better than Nyquil if I'm having a case of insomnia.

As for all the new remakes of everything, that's nice I guess. I'm personally not into all of these remakes of old games that keep coming out by the buttloads year after year. Are developers just out of ideas today or something? I swear, it seems like every month or so, I hear about another remake. Last I heard it was FF7 and Panzer Dragoon. Why?

"It's the same game you already have, but the graphics are nicer now!!!"

Ok, cool. To each their own I suppose, but not my thing.

One of my favorite pieces...signed Bucky O’hare cart by the character creator, Larry Hama.  He came to my local comicon a couple years ago and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity.

Very cool! I didn't realize Larry Hama was the creator. I'm a big fan of his GI Joe comic books.

  8. Probably my copy of Snatcher. Got it at a game shop for 6 or 7 bucks about 10 years ago, and last I saw it goes for stupid money nowadays. It's an awesome game though, so it's a shame that more people can't play it due to cost. Zoomed in on the only pic I have of it in my imgur account, but you can see it peeking out from under there.

  9. Remember those old NES carrying cases? They're vinyl, came in black or green, have a lid and handle, and store about a dozen or so carts. Well, mine has been stuffed with hundreds of NES and SNES manuals for years. I try to keep them alphabetized for when I need one, and it's convenient having them all handy and in the same place. But while this set up works great for me, I've never been the type of guy who cares about the whole financial and condition side of the hobby. I literally just like being able to check the manual sometimes for certain games.

If you wanted to keep them all pristine, you could check out a company like BCW that specializes in making protector sleeves and boards for comic books and trading cards. They make all sorts of types and sizes, so there's probably something that would work for manuals. Whatever you use, make sure that the plastic is labeled "acid free," otherwise you could have an issue in the coming years. I've known guys that put their baseball cards in cheap plastic sleeves back in the 90s, left them boxed up for decades and then discovered that the plastic had destroyed them. So cheaping out on plastic sleeves is not advised. I haven't checked if ziplock bags or baggies are acid free, but I'd make sure they were before storing paper in them for the long term.

  10. I have a Mega SG and AVS in my living room hooked up to our main 4k tv, and I do probably 90% of my NES and Genesis gaming on that setup nowadays. I love it. I still have all of my original consoles hooked up in my basement mancave area and occasionally play something on the NES or Genesis down there, but usually if the Genesis is involved it will be Sega CD or 32x down there because unhooking that whole mess to play via the Mega SG just sounds exhausting.

I recently ordered a Super NT, and look forward to adding that to the living room set up. Huge FPGA proponent here.

  11. Man, I hate seeing all the hate that Ghosts of Mars is getting. I swear, it seems like no one likes that movie but me. Hahahaha

But yeah, I am a huge John Carpenter fan. Picking a favorite of his movies would be impossible for me, but if you held a gun to my head, I'd have to say....

Halloween, no wait, They Live, no wait, The Thing, no wait, The Fog, no wait, Escape from New York, no wait...

    *BANG*

  12. I like his earlier stuff, but Natural Born Killers is sort of where he went off the deep end with the hyper-kinetic music video editing style that I personally don't care for. It's worth seeing the movie once, as there is some worthwhile stuff in it, but compared to Alien? I mean, come on.

Alien is an all time sci-fi horror classic whose impact shaped the genre for years to come while Natural Born Killers is a largely experimental movie which is not even considered among Stone's better works. Like I said, there is some worthwhile stuff in it, as much of the movie acts as a critique on 90s media and cultural sensibilities; albeit, in a highly exaggerated manner, but compared to Alien, it's no contest.

My sincere advice skinny: Just roll your eyes and move on.  Things like this really aren't worth getting angry about --- there are always going to be people out there trying to make a buck, ESPECIALLY on places like craigslist, facebook groups, etc.  I ignored stuff like this years ago, as it's just not worth spending any time thinking about or getting perturbed by.

I see rants here and there about craigslist ads, facebook ads, ebay listings, etc., and there's frankly just not much we can really do about what other people are doing, and thinking about it or getting upset usually doesn't do anything constructive.  I get that sometimes we're just venting a bit, and that's ok, but I'll see people go around trolling others, and messaging back and forth, and getting into arguments, and I just wonder what good that really does other than get ya more upset.

I think when you sort of...come to terms and find some peace with all the silly shenanigans out there, and just move on day by day goin' after your goals, you can be much happier with this hobby.

I suppose my comments extend beyond this thread or this particular issue - but just to the hobby in general, and trying not to get too worked up about things we can't control, or things that other people are doing.  Just try to be a stand-up person and be honest, honor deals, not take advantage of anyone, and be happy with that knowing you're doing the right thing, and focus on that.

Hey, this is an internet forum. It's no place for that type of fair and level-headed attitude. 😜

  14. I love me some capitalism, and I can't hate on someone for trying to make a buck. I'd like to think that most of the time when someone makes an ad like that, they're reasonable about it. Maybe paying out 7-8 bucks for a game they plan on selling for 20 on ebay or whatever. Like 2nd hand stores trade in prices. But who knows really. Some people are a-holes.

And this dude... I mean wtf. Hahahaha

And that "God bless" at the end, wow. I sincerely hope that no one gets swindled by this d-bag. Hopefully people have called him out in the craigslist ads. I've seen that happen before.
