I can only speculate, but the best I have is that I'm not so blinded by political affiliation and personal hatred for Trump that I don't let someone's political beliefs impact my ability to acknowledge evidence objectively. No doubt it my mind that if the roles were reversed here (e.g. BLM Protester being chased down by armed Proud Boys, Trumpers, etc.), a lot of folks would be signing a different tune, and agreeing with the self-defense claim. Clear sign of the shit-show that politics have caused this year, and how it affects people's reactions and ability to think critically.

Couldn't have said it better myself. If Rittenhouse was a BLM supporter, you are correct, all we'd hear on CNN and from the left was how he acted in self defense and was ambushed.

All your points are “The media lies and is the enemy”.  Another bullshit right wing talking point.  Its the media! Its the  media! Thats all you ever do, is blow in the thread and bitch about the media.

PS- using The same exact sign off on me is called “projecting” and is a Bad look. Maybe next time you can think of your own.

Not sure what posts you're reading. How is pointing out the media omitting facts a bullshit talking point? You really think the media on both sides is clean? You really think they both don't omit stuff or twist stuff to fit their agendas? It's bad on both sides. I'm just calling out the latest example of it. CNN had two articles about this incident that contradicted one another. One portrayed Rittenhouse as fleeing the scene and sneaking past cops, while the other one said he walked right up to cops and turned himself in. Well which one is it CNN? The media is an enormous problem right now. The right and left so desperately want to keep their core audience that they don't care about the veracity of a story. All they care about is speed and twisting it to fit their agenda. What doesn't help is a ton of people getting their news from Facebook and other social media. A lot of that "news" is fake articles or trolls, but some people eat that stuff up and pass it along as fact. COVID-19 had tons of instances of this over the past 6 months for example.

You poke fun at me, I mock you, that's how it works. You don't get to get away with it because you're in a position of authority here. I won't tolerate it. You started it not me.

I agree. Anyone shot by a cop that It shouldn’t have been, whether black or white should have the attention brought to it, and supported by their community.

and this kid is getting praised by the right wing media ecosystem-trump already supported him! Trump taking sides shows why he is not helping the situation.

as for why the Portland mayor wants Trump out, I don’t blame them one bit. He’s just gonna be followed along by his little sheep to hang on his every word and try to stir shit up like those guys in that damn motorcade. He does absolutely nothing to try and lighten the situation.

@Rhino If you wanna talk with the adults bring a coherent point. Nobody is taking you serious.

I know you're a mod and all, but you sir can go politely f*ck off. I'm not going to tolerate your high and mighty condescending tone of "if you wanna talk with the adults" like I'm some ignorant kid. My points are pretty coherent. You guys just continue to ignore evidence that is counter to your viewpoint. @Silent Hill gets it. You guys don't. Look at the evidence. Take out any bias or agendas, and get back to me and the adults.

And the people who were shot would have not been in harms way had they not violently chased him and forced his reaction. Even if the second group hadn't chased him after the first shooting, they would be fine and the kid would have just ran to the police, like he ended up doing after the second shooting. (don't forget the survivor was an idiot felon with a firearm he had no business being in possession of)

The bottom line is he was out there (whether you agree with it or not), and was chased/attacked to the point where his life was threatened. I highly doubt the murder charge sticks because "he shouldn't have been out there". Nobody should have been out there. Not an armed 17 y.o attempting to protect property, and not armed criminals attempting to destroy property, then chasing and attempting to kill a kid. But they were, and this is how it unfolded.

Why are you the only one on this forum who gets it?

  5. 13 hours ago, Californication said:

I didn't say he was on a rampage or a shooting spree. I said his life was 100%  not in danger after he shot the first person. And that people running after him knew he had just killed somebody and were trying to stop him. If he was mature he could have de-escalated the situation. He created the situation and it is his fault people died, full stop. Don't quote a law to me unless you're a lawyer with experience in that jurisdiction.

I choose to believe what the media wants me to believe? Your a trump supporter. You are the definition of a sheep. Unless your in the 1% your getting drilled in the ass like the rest of us. The difference is your sucking Trumps balls while he fucks you and I understand I am getting screwed.

Edit: And the republican media is the group enjoying this. This white kid murdering protestors is getting eaten up all over republican media. A couple more stories like this and the republicans can stop fucking over the post office and still win the election.

LMAO. Do you realize how dumb you come across as? Where do I even begin with you. Watch the videos then come chat with me and @Silent Hill. It really seems like none of you clowns even bothered to watch the videos. If this dude was "mature" like you suggest he should've been, he'd be dead. I'll quote whatever laws I want. It's funny how every time evidence is presented, you clowns just ignore it or dismiss it. I'm sorry you can't read and understand that law.

For the record, I don't support Trump. He's a horrible president. Never voted for him, never will. He has divided the country and destroyed international relationships.

  6. Just caught up on all of this. Wow @Silent Hill is roasting all your @$$es over and over again but you refuse to watch his videos, read articles, look up Wisconsin law, or any of that. You choose to instead believe what the media wants you to believe, you know, the omitted facts of the case, to keep the narrative alive. This is a very easy self defense case.

All you clowns act like Rittenhouse was on some crazy rampage shooting spree targeting and hunting down people left and right. If he truly was out for blood, why'd he only kill 2 people? Why did he only shoot maybe 8 shots? Why did he turn himself into the cops? Why did he call someone saying he shot someone after the first shooting? He's not some cold blooded murderer. That's just the false narrative the left wants to portray because they want it to look like a white supremacist who supported cops murdered several people in cold blood and fled the scene.

I highly doubt any of you care about facts or law or any of that, but in case you do and want to read up on Wisconsin law for the murder charge against Rittenhouse, here you go. https://docs.legis.wisconsin.gov/statutes/statutes/940/I/01

"A defendant may demonstrate that he or she was acting lawfully, a necessary element of an accident defense, by showing that he or she was acting in lawful self-defense. Although intentionally pointing a firearm at another constitutes a violation of s. 941.20, under s. 939.48 (1) a person is privileged to point a gun at another person in self-defense if the person reasonably believes that the threat of force is necessary to prevent or terminate what he or she reasonably believes to be an unlawful interference. State v. Watkins, 2002 WI 101, 255 Wis. 2d 265, 647 N.W.2d 244, 00-0064."

This is shaping up to be the next Ferguson where the media's version of events and reality are completely different because they want to keep their precious narrative alive and keep the country divided. Something is seriously wrong with the country right now. Every person for every event like this should do their own homework on this case. Don't believe just one news source or whatever news is on Facebook. Dive into the case and learn what the actual facts are, all the facts. The media needs to really stop this omission sh!t.

    • Haha 1
  7. Why is the media ignoring the fact that one of the guys Kyle Rittenhouse injured had a pistol? Answer, because they want you to think it was cold blooded calculated murder. They don't want you to think at all that he could've acted in self defense. Ignore the gun, ignore him turning himself into police, ignore the people attacking him. Just focus on him shooting people and that he supported Trump and cops. Seriously, f*ck the media and their deliberate omission of facts to sway a story.

Oh yeah, it's still terrible.   It's just less terrible than it was a couple weeks ago from the overall new cases per day here at least (but not as good as when everybody was staying home).

I just worry people will get back into that mentality of "flattening the curve" = "COVID-19 is solved and we can do whatever we want again".

  9. There's no way COVID-19 is actually trending down right now. It's just as bad as it's ever been. Even if it was trending down, that means nothing. Decreasing to say 20k cases a day and 200 deaths per day would still be terrible. We need a vaccine. We need people to stop being f*cling idiots. Wear a mask. Who cares if you don't care about your own health. For f*cks sake, protect others. I f*cking hate people who refuse to wear masks right now when they're around others.

100% agree that police should be held accountable for their actions.

Also 100% know that police reduce crime - as has been shown numerous times by scholarly research.

Replacing police with civilian-led "violence prevention group" sounds like a horrible idea to me.

"Under the bill, cops would be replaced by “community-led activities” and organizations focused on “housing, food security, and other basic needs” along with “culturally-relevant expertise rooted in community connections,”

I have a bad feeling about this...

    Why?

All I can take away from this is ‘black people do more crimes and that’s just the way they are.
And, nothing should change about our model of policing.’

Do I misunderstand you? I am seeking clarity.

I'll put it this way. If I'm black and live in a high crime area where the majority population is black, of course black people will be stopped more by police. Their population in said area is higher. If an area is very highly populated by white people but there is almost no crime there, of course very few white people will be stopped by police.

  13. We will have people on Mars within the next 2 decades. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_mission_to_Mars

    • In 2022, at least 2 Starship cargo vehicles will land on Mars.[needs update]
      • They will confirm water resources and identify hazards.
      • They will place power, mining and life support infrastructure for future missions.
    • In 2024, 2 Starship crew vehicles will take the first people to Mars.[needs update]
      • 2 Starship cargo vehicles will bring more equipment and supplies.
      • They will place a propellant production plant.
      • They will build up a base to prepare for expansion

My only confusion with the article is that they don't seem to be comparing stops/charges, just "usage rates", which seems tough to directly tie to interactions with the law. They do refer to "possession" throughout but I'm wondering if they're excluding distribution (or even adjusting for total amount at all), since I believe that carries a higher charge and is more susceptible to arrest. Also, I'm assuming they're only referring to sole marijuana possession without the presence of other drugs.

Regardless, weed should be legal in general.

You nailed it on the head.

Idk who you’re talking to, but you quoted me in this and I have not said any such thing.

What do you call it when people of color are still much more likely to be arrested for crime than white people are even when offense rates are virtually identical across races?

The general "we" as a society. I think @Silent Hill covered it pretty well. The link you posted only addresses consumption. It does not take into account another variable which is minorities could be living in more crime ridden areas than white people, therefore they are more likely to be stopped by cops. Could it be racial profiling, sure. Could it not be racial profiling, sure.

How did those polls work in 2016?  But that's okay, the media says that this time will be different!  They got it all figured out...they won't make the same mistake...they know what proper polling/sampling's all about...

PS: Isn't that bartender Miles O'Brien from Star Trek TNG/DS9?

The polls were wrong except for the LA Times. No poll has Trump winning. He has far more ground to make up than in 2016. People are sick of him. I will bet a good chunk of change that the Democrats win the presidential election this year.

  17. If you mean retro as in good games/systems that are the foundations, and culturally changed the world forever, then there are only 2 retro systems, NES and SNES. Everything else is just old. The definition of retro is "relating to, reviving, or being the styles and especially the fashions of the past : fashionably nostalgic or old-fashioned" so technically no games or systems are retro.

    Closest I can find, Illinois.

    via https://www2.illinois.gov/idoc/reportsandstatistics/Pages/Prison-Population-Data-Sets.aspx

And to the next question, are all people who commit crimes arrested?

Let’s say for the sake of argument that the answer is yes, despite comprising only 30% of the overall population. Why then are 82 (or whatever)% of arrests of black people? That’s disproportionate.

How many of whoever wind up at a police torture site where documentation is scarce at best, is a compound effect.

Why are black people arrested and imprisoned at a higher rate per 100,000 than white people?

If you commit a serious crime, you should be arrested. If a certain group actually commits more crimes than other groups, that that's reality, not racism. Now if you're asking what led to a certain group "having" to resort to crime, leading to higher crime rates by a certain group, that's another discussion that probably is from historical racism's effects still being felt, as well as other components including drug use and lack of wealth. There is definitely a dark figure of crime where not everything is reported, however, I would caution anyone who says all police organizations have systemic racism. Perhaps a small percentage of officers are systemically racist, but not everyone. You can't blame all societal problems on current systemic racism. History plays a part and the effects of the past still linger. Why don't certain groups have as much wealth? Well, maybe it's because they couldn't own property for hundreds of years and couldn't pass anything down to their kids. Maybe it isn't because all cops out there are racists pricks. We need to stop this death to cops rhetoric. They're not evil. They protect you and die in the line of duty (far too often too). Maybe show some more respect for your military too because guess what, they do the same thing. They protect your @$$ every day.
