Guest Guests ·
So I’ve been looking at some Nintendo published SNES games and noticed that a lot of the later ones (from 1995 and onward) have both “Made in Japan” and “Made in Mexico” variants. Which one of them is considered a first print? the_wizard_666 | 1,363
Made in Japan. The Mexico games are Majesco re-releases. I think Frogger is the exception though, as I don't think it got a Made in Japan run at all. 1 Link to comment https://www.videogamesage.com/forums/topic/14175-%E2%80%9Cmade-in-mexico%E2%80%9D-snes-games/#findComment-390201 Share on other sites
DefaultGen | 5,961
Made in Japan is usually first. Assembled in Mexico is often (but not always) a sign of a Majesco reprint, a company that republished games often with lower quality materials. Some pricey games like Chrono Trigger and Earthbound were only made in Mexico. Even if the timeline isn't perfectly clear, like some newer games where Made in Japan and Made in USA were both available at launch, people usually prefer Made in Japan anyway. Which one of them is considered a first print? There are three types 1. Made in Japan 2. Made in Mexico 3. Assembled in Mexico Made in Japan came 1st and at some point Nintendo transitioned some games to manufacturing in Mexico thus Made in Mexico. They usually start with U/ in the product code. Assembled in Mexico are reprints of popular games and have black and white manuals with trash box quality. As mentioned earlier only Frogger is the 1st print of those of about 26 or 27 games.
