I really find these sorts of things very fascinating.   This shipwreck from WWII was recently discovered:

It was sunk in 1944 when a much larger Japanese force threatened the light forces guarding the Leyte invasion fleet.  As usual the Japanese had set up a very elaborate plan where they offered their remaining aircraft carriers as bait to lure the bulk of the US fleet away from the landing support vessels - this time their plans worked and the Japanese almost succeeded until the admiral commanding that force inexplicably withdrew.
